How do You Keep Yourself Busy While Travelling?

Paying attention to my surroundings and grabbing whatever opportunity that may present itself. -
Anyone else losing items when they are dropped inside of buildings?
BadAsh (DayZ) replied to Zardoz75's topic in General Discussion
Retrace your steps and you are almost certain to find the stuff again. I have had this occurring to me several times and never permanently lost anything. I have always found it either on the same spot, just on the floor directly below, or more often, in the recent route I had taken to get to the place where the item disappeared. -
When a body slides like that, there is a possibility you would have been able to find the "loot body" option somewhere around where his gun fell down, and not around the actual body. At least I have tried that a couple of times. Very strange the way he behaved with the axe. I am thinking perhaps he was a sudden victim of the "can't melee" bug? At least it seems he had plenty of time to axe you more than once, but instead he just sat there with the axe raised.

Let's Play DayZ: Are You Taking The Piss! - Ep. 6
BadAsh (DayZ) replied to youtubejmachine's topic in Gallery
I counted 15 hits to kill that first zombie with the crowbar. 14 body hits and 1 headshot (the last one, which killed it, if you hadn't gotten that headshot you would probably have had to spend a lot more time to kill that zombie). The crowbar has always been shit in this game, but its quite clear that you should not just mindlessly strike at the zombie, you should try to get headshots in. It would have taken far less hits for you to kill the zombie if you had only gotten headshots in. But generally you shouldn't bother with melee weapons until you get to the hoe/splitting axe level, which only requires to body hits to kill zombies. Use fists until you find such weapons, because they are far better, as they are easier to get headshots with, and this knocks them out, and then it is just a short cycle of you continually bashing their brains in until they die. -
The "ruined" status must go.

Rocks works for sharpening axes as well. Just not ruined axes, which is indeed a bit silly. -
Third Person View should be Over-the-Shoulder, NOT a bird's eye view.
BadAsh (DayZ) replied to Rags!'s topic in General Discussion
Not really interested in whether you do in order to look at admire yourself or look at yourself running (!?). The point is that if is something you've "just grown accustomed to", it is not something vital to gameplay. It is something you can grow unaccustomed to as well, because 3rd person really has some elements when it comes to a realistic survival game that makes them gamebreaking. Perhaps you can look at your trousers in the inventory and not break the game, or is looking at your trousers of such importance that you are willing to break the game for that view? -

BadAsh (DayZ) replied to Rags!'s topic in General Discussion
As I recall the inventory contains a fine representation of your player, and you can twist and turn that guy to appreciate whatever piece of clothing or item you choose to decorate him with. In my book that kinds of invalidates the argument for 3pp that mmo players like to see their mannequins, ehm avatars outfit through 3rd person view in order to appreciate the looks or something. -
Haven't heard about this happening yet...
BadAsh (DayZ) replied to AlexLM's topic in General Discussion
There have been various reports of people being shot into the air when trying to traverse certain cliffs (specificially along the coast). Sounds like this is a similar reaction, but in a different environment. -
SERVER MAINTENANCE is upon us! what will you do with yourself
BadAsh (DayZ) replied to R0B3RTF1SH3R's topic in General Discussion
I haven't been able to join any exp server all week now, so for me maintenance is just like any other day. -
I really don't get why you would feel sorry for the cheater. The asshole got what he deserved, and if the fact that he is cheating alone isn't enough for you, the end of the video quite clearly shows what a pathetic individual he is, and why he deserves the contempt of every player he meets. Please don't suck up to this kind of cheating scum by admiring their cheating skills (as if that was a skill), it clearly only feeds their sense of ego and encourages to keep cheating. The rules for trolls applies for cheaters as well: Whatever you do, don't feed them.
-
The teleporting and speed hacks are quite obvious from the videos. He also seems to have that radar hack where he can see other players all over the map, judging from his actions.
-
My thoughts as well after watching the video. OP ran into a fairly large open area, and then, without securing his back properly focused entirely on the gate.
-
Just a heads up about OP: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/209353-experimental-branch-049-discussion/?p=2098861 And: http://www.reddit.com/r/dayz/comments/2f25tf/new_civilian_neaf_buildings/

I can see you have never grown your own potatoes. Forks are the best tools for harvesting root vegetables by hand.
-
Onions and carrots would definitely make sense to include. They would grow wild from abandonded vegetable gardens and keep well in the dirt, ready to be dug up using a hoe, spade or pitchfork. Some sort of cabbage I imagine wouldn't be out of place either.

zombies no clip - sorry if already done
BadAsh (DayZ) replied to boonaroony's topic in General Discussion
"All zombies easily still go through walls" "I see them go through walls a lot less". "No difference between pre-navmesh zombies". Since these claims are all conflicting, the proper term is indeed "nonsense", since you aren't making any sense. -
zombies no clip - sorry if already done
BadAsh (DayZ) replied to boonaroony's topic in General Discussion
95%? So you are calling it with blatant lies and exaggerations. Good call. -

BadAsh (DayZ) replied to boonaroony's topic in General Discussion
The navmesh is working and the zombies are behaving very differently from the pre-navmesh days. I don't know why you would spout such nonsense. -
They have been added in current exp. I have been finding these rounds like theres no tomorrow. I have no idea if they are in current stable though.

Dayz Standalone is lacking a huge core piece in my eyes.
BadAsh (DayZ) replied to Zanders's topic in General Discussion
I really don't get why these people think "cars and boats" will make all that difference. If they added them what would keep you from getting the feeling that there is "nothing drawing you into the game" then? Why would cars and boats make such a big difference to you? I am really curious. Because this is being thrown around a lot by former mod players as being, well the end game to use a tired old cliché. But why? As soon as vehicles are in, and as soon as you have tried assembling them and driving them around for a bit, what is stopping you from getting bored? I really don't get this. In my view this is like askiing for a new hat, or a new gun, and saying this is really all the game needs to be perfect. This is not what makes the game interesting. What makes the game interesting is whether you can still get that feeling of exploration when meeting new players. You may have experienced that feeling back in 2012, and never since. I guess if that is the case, "cars and boats" are not going to make you relive it. You have grown calluses and become old and world weary regarding this game. There is really not much to be done about that. Cars and boats will eventually be in the game. But when they fail to satisfy your gaming experience, please take into consideration your previous condition, and that it may not be a problem to other players. Other mod players who managed to get a kick out of meeting other players in the game even after all this time, as well as new players, who have yet to even experience the sense of repetition you might feel, when playing this game. This problem of old mod players being burned out on the game seems to be a recurring one, at least it seems so from many many posts on these forums and elsewhere. But you have to realise that this is your personal subjective problem, dependent on your approach and your experience with this game. And that this is far from necessarily the same with most of the other players playing this game. -
Does the game become worse every update?
BadAsh (DayZ) replied to Bearserk's topic in General Discussion
I figured the OP for an Epoch player. You know, only wanting "progress" to be addition of a million guns and vehicles, preferably where you spawn, and less zombies generally, and those which are in the game should pose no threat at all. -
No, its not just you.
-
They spawn everywhere when you don't need them. If you have a crossbow and are looking for them you will never find them.
-
If you found an m4 back before the introduction of heli crashes, chances are you would have found at least a handful of m4 mags as well. They were literally all over the place (you could find them in several civilian buildings even).

What are good game mechanics/ features from other games that work in dayz ?
BadAsh (DayZ) replied to gibonez's topic in General Discussion
There was no free aim in RO1. It is kind of hard to explain what it does, when I first read about it being in RO2 I had no idea what it was either, even though I was playing the game at the time. But I think gibonez hit the nail on the head with his description of how it very nicely creates an impression of how guns are different and handles differently, especially at close quarters and in situations where speed is required. Combine it with the actual gun physics (which means you can only aim at places where there is actually room to lower the gun), and you have a very nice system that makes a realistic "feel" to gun handling ingame. Since getting used to RO2, I just haven't been able to get that feeling in games that doesn't have these two features.
