Yep they are pretty much edible either way. However,it is proved that cooked foods does indeed replenish hunger almost twice effective than dry food. Reducing canned items to very rare is indeed effective. But if we implement a mechanic where, consuming them raw provides only half the nutrition instead of cooking, imo will further improve the cooking incentive.
-
Or tweak it that canned food giving half of their nutrition value raw and full when heated on the fire. Beans have been boiled before making their way into the cans,so realistically speaking they are pretty much eatible. Recipes using combo ingredients should provide additional bonus. Let's use Steak and Potatoes for an example. When cooking the steak it gives you let's say 100 nutrition bonus. Cooking the potatoes gives you 50 nutrition bonus. Consuming each of them separately should give you 150 nutrition bonus in total. However,i"m in favor of combining these 2 ingredients, into the "Steak and Potatoes" recipe awarding the player 200 nutrition. This 50 bonus nutrition,is enough incentive for people cooking and combining their food ingredients.

So yeah, about that new Alcatraz island............

Yep,the dude ain't lying. The place is literally crawling with weapons. Is it always like that,or you were lucky to stumble across a loot explosion(bug) ? -
Here you go,but...

Cooked warm food should help you warm up and offer a cold resistance bonus. But it's not always tedious some foods need to be cooked, eating raw rice for example can swell up your stomach and make you sick. Another example is potatoes and eggplants. They contain the compound solanine, which inhibits the absorption of calcium. Common symptoms are vomiting, cramping of the stomach, nausea, headache, dizziness and diarrhea.

Alternate means of transporting equipment
Damnyourdeadman replied to Whyherro123's topic in General Discussion
Unfortunately we have a clunky interaction mechanic and in a situation where you have to leave your cart could prove deadly. Dragging a cart along the way is something that should seriously reduce our character's mobility. Concerning large cargo (car engines, wheels etc) a system like this would prove very useful. However, while a good and viable idea,i would personally prefer transportation with horses and oxen carts and carriages instead. -
You mean the people who play DayZ like COD and BF? But either way,i don't think by improving survival gameplay into a more challenging and realistic experience is going to have a toll on the overall PVP playstyle.

What System Would You Like Implemented
Damnyourdeadman replied to hyerjohn's topic in General Discussion
No dude,i mean simple stuff. Like looting an apple from a refrigerator or a coat from a wardrobe. It's kinda anti-climatic having to pick everything from the floor. Realistically speaking,I assume accessing a container in DayZ would be done instantly. The same way you access a tent. -

Persistent World Containers. Scavenging loot from cupboards, fridges, wardrobes etc. It will open the way for player personal storage and provide an incentive for barricading. -
This is a good idea, however a game like DayZ that strives for realism, can't introduce this mechanic. Cooked food in general could give a "well fed" buff (different to the stuffed) granting additional health regeneration bonus. The duration and effect could depend on the different type and the ingredients used.

Add Greek Characters in Text Chat and Server Messages
Damnyourdeadman replied to Zarniwoop's topic in Suggestions
Many Greek and Russian players out there have a hard time using English. A multiple language chat support could be alot of assistance, with this minority player population. But in all honestly,DayZ is a game that people rarely make use of the chat function. -
I used to have friends that had bruises all over their bodies for "discipline's" sake and trust me,it was ugly. There are plenty other effective ways to achieve that, and imo using a belt is not one of them. Anyway, this is not the place for this discussion...let's not get off-topic.

Little Timmy thinks otherwise... Edit:Bad joke, child abuse is nothing to be made fun of.
-
But imagine simply clicking on a report button next to the server from the ingame menu and click on the reason for the report. Sending your information straight away could save tons of time and provide more accurate information.
-
I'm fully in support of an easily acceptable and private ticket system. Having to resort to the bugtracker,is a very shoddy and time consuming solution concerning the server abusment problem.

In my opinion this game should focus on melee combat
Damnyourdeadman replied to Avant-Garde's topic in General Discussion
Hah! if the devs actually manage to implement something that even slightly resembles the combat in Chivalry,i would be immensely grateful. :) Sure, there are some minor realism faults, but compared to the melee combat in DayZ,i am prepared to overlook them. :P -
This is actually a good idea!

Back in the early days,i remember our steam names, being bind with our ingame names. Fortunately or unfortunately, devs replaced this system to let players pick their own name. Now personally,i have to admit that i prefer the older system where your steam account name was also your ingame name. Imo,it gave players a sense of identity. But on the other hand, having the ability to customize your name gave players more freedom. If you were to choose... Would you prefer going back to where your steam name was your ingame name? Or you prefer having the freedom to pick and change your own ingame name? Edit: Added a poll.
-
Me too,i use the same name everywhere in form of different variations (Damnyourdeadman:Steam/Forums/Ingame - Damndeadyourman:Reddit - Damnmanyourdead:Bugtracker) :D Although my reasoning was that if the ingame name is bind to the Steam name we can have the possibility of an interesting Social System implementation. A non customizable name will be something substantial,a way of identity. Additionally,it will somewhat help, battle the hacking threat. If the ingame name was the same as Steam,we could have additional leads to find the hacker's identity.

I agree,when all else fails,having a gun could be a life saver. -

On the contrary, the zombie threat will mean a reduction in firearm usage. A gun shot should turn the whole city's infected population on your location. This is a good opportunity to promote stealth gameplay and turn bows into an irreplaceable weapon in our inventories. -

Damnyourdeadman replied to Avant-Garde's topic in General Discussion
I agree with the melee direction focus but before anything, first we need to find ways to reduce the amount of weapons. I remember making a suggestion on a realistic way of enhancing weapon rarity. Basically what i had in mind was to divide firearms in 2 or more different parts(attachments aside). The majority of the firearms would spawn in one part,or have one of the parts ruined. The most common way to have a functioning firearm would be to scavenge both working parts. A mechanic like this would turn people's attention to melee, because it would be very challenging having a functioning firearm. Along with an advanced melee system,i think we could create a rewarding gameplay experience. :D -
A player should never lose control of his character,it goes against the spirit of DayZ. If the avatar is a coward the player controlling it should be a coward too. The great part about DayZ is that it portrays a mirror image of the user in the game. It doesn't punish anyone from showing his true colors. There are evil folks and the game is the perfect opportunity for them to embrace their inner selves... But that's fine, because the freedom of choice allows them to do so.
