Experimental Branch: 0.48 Discussion

Use melee to keep the zeds/infected count to a manageable level. If your ping is great than 150, you will get side-swiped either way, typically you won't hear them coming. Bring lots of bandages, try to get/stay healthy to absorb the damage... all else fails, RUN! Oh and as you have learned, don't get pinned in a corner. -
Police cars, based on the change log are apparently bugged or they have really good camo effect that makes them invisible. As for the 7.62x39mm ammo, I think I have all available rounds piled up under a tree. But seriously, look for AKM mags and unload them.

Pretty much a running joke with the wife, there's always a walmart sale on select items of the day. She now asks what the item of the day is, sometimes rope, sometimes knives, you just never know. -
What is it that makes the fps so bad? Engine? DX9?
Super_Duty replied to Halven (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
You can throw as much money at hardware all you like and performance is unlikely to change much at this stage. I'm an eye candy freak, in all the games I play, and there are game engines out there that are just cpu cycle whores. This engine one falls into that category. I, like others are running a 3570K at 4.4 +/- liquid cooled. I have dual R290x's that are basically at idle most of the time (i know, crossfire is a problem with this engine) and 16gb ram, because it was on sale. I also have a later generation SSD. Shadows are a big culprit, but also a necessary piece of information for this particular game. Although the upper limit on shadow settings are really distracting. 18 FPS, in Cherno (Fraps) is tough to manage with Zed's/Infected trying to take your head off. -
Well just like a horse, nothing good comes from riding them hard and putting them away wet. We already have the notifications of being damp thru being soaked. Logic suggests there will be penalties... More survival, yes please.

Happens sometimes. The work week gets in the way, early meetings, late meetings, (damn globalization) and last night was dart night, steel tip btw. By the time I get home and pour a cocktail, find some food, flip some channels, debrief with the wife, it's bedtime. Rinse and repeat until Friday... Oh and guess what tomorrow is, FRIDAY! -

Hey!!! Get OFF my lawn. -
Well you are in quite the conundrum. As suggested for the $1K range you are looking to spend, I'd take another look. Tom's Hardware, a well respect site, has several build comparison to consider before deciding. Link: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/pc-system-build-value-compared,3859.html

Broke Leg with alot of Ammo and stuff if wanted

Well no wonder you broke your legs...the ammo weight itself could have cause you to break your legs, fall or not. -
Zombies are weak, they need to be stronger...
Super_Duty replied to battlerhd's topic in General Discussion
Oh bummer, my apologies then. I'm aware that the reference to the alpha and the omega meant the beginning and the end. But apparently, I made an unjust assumption that Z had something to do with Zombies. My Bad! -

Here's the absolute deterrent of attempting to salvage my loot for your own personal gain... The last great act of defiance, a giant F.U. as I pull the pin before you rape my cold dead corpse. I do hope that this becomes such a reality. I would sleep much better. Instead of "your are dead" the message mutates to "every one is dead". The old Klingon proverb, something about revenge being a dish best served cold! -

Some of these posts and points of view are quite disturbing. Isn't the Z in DAYZ meant to mean Zombie, or Zed's? What the hell is the point of a Zombie apocalypse without Zed's? Are you out of your frickin skull's man? In 0.48, two body shots and if you are lucky, 1 head shot with a Marakov with take down a Zed. Melee, on a military Zed takes two hits with a fire a axe, regular Zed's is still one hit. Melee, which may appear to be broken based on popular opinion, is not all that bad as a placeholder, if you remembered or thought to read the notes that you will hit where your cursor is pointed. There's a minor adjustment for lag or ping, but it's not a big deal. If you are being attacked by aggro Zed's, back off a bit, let the first one run by you, strafe left, hit the late follower in the back of the head, adjust and take out the lead. It is not difficult! Hoppers are a pain the in ass, but more so because of their stealth, which btw I appreciate. Those little bitches are a great add to the game and I hope to see more variations of them. Don't get me wrong, I've been bitch-slapped many times and have had gear repeatedly ruined by encounters with them. The last thing I want to see is that they do not become more of a threat. They should always be a threat and that threat should force a player to reconsider their decisions. Give me Imperial Storm Trooper Zed's at the military installations. Camp or server hop at your own risk, there should be a 90% chance that you will get your ass kicked in those areas. -

All very good talking points. The reality which will ensue, and that we will ultimately face, will be driven by the devs. derived from the mass amounts of server data being collected. It is through this analysis of game mechanics, based on player interaction and impact on/to the game environment with which direction will ultimately be determined. At the end of the day, we are all looking for a well balanced experience that meets the needs of the masses, player and BI, alike. Someone posted recently about the potential laziness of having to actually traverse the map to acquire what would be considered a moderately high level character build, and this is where design direction overrules opinion, popular or not. If the primary path continues to be that of true survival, then I think we will all be in for a real treat. The map size allows for multiple game play styles which is a must in this modern day of self indulgence and instant gratitude. If the mechanics are setup properly, then both PvP and PvE can co-exist. We have seen the early stages of this already within the more populated cities and to a lesser degree out in the wilderness as one would expect. Once the spawn mechanics are better balanced and potentially anyone can be a significant threat, I believe eventually balance or a natural harmony will take hold. You will always have the one-offs, the ones with the I don't give a rats ass attitude about anything but ruining your gaming experience type of player. Those hopefully will be dealt with accordingly by the more popular player base. Oh and for reference...this is my current character load-out since the most recent update. I don't dwell in cities, or hot-spots for long, all dependent on need and based on current threat assessment. I play lone wolf, pretty much exclusively, with the intent of not being seen, coming or going. My suggestion would be not to approach unless bearing gifts and naked women. -

Seriously, Barnabus is accurate. I was on that server at the butt crack of dawn, Eastern standard time, 6:15am and he is correct. Not only the 3, but actually 4 75rnd's, several 30 rnd ak101 mags, a 30 rnd akm mag, canteens, military gear, food, etc. and I left them all. I was just looking for an ammo box, or two maybe, but I have yet to find one since 0.48 was released (anyone else find one?). I ended up heading East to Cherno and finally found a yellow plastic storage case to appease my disease. That was it for the day for me. Oh and btw, some of us are not server hoppers as you so kindly implied...bitch. -
The two most recent memorable's...night server, pitch black out, on the 3rd floor at a construction site. Thought I was in the stairwell and proceeded to fall off the side of the building. The other was when I was screwing around on some scaffolding and thought I could access the roof of the building. I stepped up on said roof and thought, wow this is cool, only to slowly slide down and plummet off the edge. Yep, I'm a member of the dumb-ass club.

Like everything else in life, there are things that people are not going to be good at. I've come to the conclusion that being good at survival is also something that some people just aren't going to be good at. If you find yourself dying over and over again, then quite possibly some of you may fall into this category. So for the hell of it, I connected to the South-central HC server to compare that server to the other I had been on this morning, just to check loot availability. This time I was on the coast, it's dark and this is a night time server. headed West, hit Kamarovo, then Kamenka, then headed North along the tree line to Pavlovo and finally North East to Zelen. Found a Marakov within ten minutes, no clip however. TSKO pants in a barn, tan military shirt in another, blue backpack and a green kiddie backpack, garden hoe (one of my favorites for Zed's) bag of rice, beans, 3 cans of peaches, .22, .357, .380, 9mm, 7.62x51mm and a pristine LRS. I left the LRS, if you want it, then go here...it's on the second floor of the metal industrial building in the little room. And yes, gamma was up a bit to take these shots. -

Was at Cherno this morning on one of those Southwest HC servers mentioned earlier. The place was looted, but no where near stripped clean. I spent an hour there and came across 7 melee weapons, 3 of them axes, a dozen cans of food, a canteen, screwdrivers, ammo - all varieties, 1 Sportier, a shotgun, probably a dozen pair of gray cargo pants (why just gray, I don't know), several hoody's, 4 backpacks, a med kit and other random clothing to make rags from. There were several buildings that were even left untouched base on comparing to the others. Zed's were around in some areas as well. There was also cooking gear available if wanted, stoves, gas canisters, pots and pans. Also chem lights, lanterns, flares, etc. were there to be had. So yeah, in 1 hour of play I don't see why anyone wouldn't be able to assemble all the basics. First thing fresh spawns should do is remove that t-shirt and make rags out of it before moving anywhere. And yes, as Grape mentions, split them up when you can into two locations. I rarely will keep them in a jacket or backpack anymore. -

Got my butt kicked earlier today, damn Zed's! Though I did not succumb to my wounds, my ass was kicked repeatedly after giving up using melee. Locked and loaded, my shiny brand new pristine AKM with four, yes 4, 30 round mags, no problem. I figured I was good to go, WRONG!!! I was in Bolota, popped off a round looting the barracks to make some distance, what a mistake. One Zed turns into two, then four, and as fast as you can think it's WTF and I'm running away like some noob. Up the hill, down the hill, around buildings and finally go prone in a mix of pine trees to patch up my bleeding ass. This is on HC btw, and guess what, I wouldn't have it any other way! Phucking Zed bitches!!! Speaking of noobs, you better have your wits about you before joining an HC server. Luvin it! -

Let's bring it down a notch... all good points from both perspectives. This is a journey, sometimes you love it, sometimes you hate it, and I've been on both sides. We are all allowed to express our opinions, in context. With out this, the developers have nothing to go on. -
