Ok, so here are a few of my thoughts/experiences and personal opinions on .50 after about 30 hours of game play running around pretty much on three servers. I will digress and state up front that this post will most likely be TLDR for those with ADHD, which at times, I fall into that category. Spawning in Kamyshovo, you're dead meat. Three re-spawns there and after being beat half dead by Zeds/Infected, running for your life while looking for any type of gear is painful to say the least. If you decide to go north from there, which is my typical heading for this spawn point, my guess is your odds of survival are 10%. You won't make it far enough before finding the basics to recover from the wrath of getting out of town. And even if you do, the nearest targets have been repeatedly looted. Server issues, from what I've been able to deduce come in several forms. From the continuous reboot, to the more problematic (imho) being those that you can log-in to but the loot re-spawning has stopped for whatever reason. Same point in time from U.S. to Aus. to Singapore, servers that once re-spawned "food" and other things suddenly stop. If you find yourself on one of those servers still determined to find anything of use, save a bullet for yourself. Gear spawn locations in general seem to be very well dispersed. Meaning that I've found certain items in locations/buildings that I would never have expected in previous builds. To me this is a good thing. Military items, for the most part are quite difficult to acquire. Running the west side of the map from Kemenka, north to Vybor, Zelen, NWAF, Sobor's to the new tent camp from Balota several times yielded little. My current character and the other I somehow managed to kill off apparently by Zeds/Infected while taking a pee break were geared decently well, wearing Gorka/TSKO, Mosin/SKS, Mak pistol with two clips oh and a Gorka helmet with a pristine visor at one point. However, no AK's although I had several mags, M4's forget it, couldn't find a crash site to save my life, and I was being diligent in looking. Sustenance, yep, better make room for food and water if you're even thinking of making a long trip. That and some forethought is most helpful, or better yet, a server that it's raining on if you have the proper gear to stay warm and a water vessel (canteen, bottle, etc.) From thirsty to hydrated took 3, yes three, full canteens. That's a lot of water! Food is a bit more forgiving once/if you get past your initial spawn. Critter's, yep lots of them north if you can get there. I do like the new sounds of hoofs/hooves, even if they are placeholders. Pitch forks suck for defending yourself, something I experienced first hand. Pristine hoes are the bomb! Wood axes seem very rare to find, fire axes not so much in my time spent. Ammo appears always available, but without a weapon it's difficult to carry when food and water are more precious. I do like the decision making that comes into play here. Can openers are also rare, but are the only item that takes up only one inventory spot which opens canned food without food loss. Zeds/Infected, can be brutal on newbies and hardened players alike. In Sobor, both of them, it's difficult to manage 4 at a time with a melee weapon given the current environment. If you made it this far then you have my beans. Lots of good with this .50 build imho. Couple more things after thinking about it during dinner. In 30 hours or so I found one hacksaw, one P1 clip, one 1911 engraved and one not. Several Mosin's and three LR Scopes, two SKS's, half a dozen .22 Sports, one .22 30 round mag. 20+ Mak's and 5 clips, 2 CR75's and one clip. Not a single .357 or Longhorn or FNX or clip. Found several mil vest's though no hi-caps. Cattle prods and baton's spawn too much as they seem to be everywhere. Three shotties, six or so CR527's, but not a single clip and one 10 round .22 mag. -

I have two red apple trees out back, of two different varieties and there are quite a few rotten apples at this point of the season. Some will actually hang around still on the tree until spring. As for berries...a sore subject with me at the moment in-game. I was dying of starvation this past Saturday, close to death and found some red berry bushes thinking about all the posts about living off the land and that one should never starve to death. I was able to find/pick and eat three berry(s) before I dropped dead. Well, unconscious to be totally accurate, but off in the woods, all alone...basically the same thing. Oh and btw, I'm still very much enjoying the increased difficulty, even with this recent experience with berry picking. I felt total frustration and bliss all at the same time. -

Yep, just a bit brutal at the moment. Froze to death my first spawn, ignoring the warnings, went hypothermic and died, in the rain of course. Second spawn, died of dehydration, after about 3 hours of game play. Had headed north, looking for choppers, and apparently I was not quite prepared after getting turned around. Now mind you that was after being energized and healthy for quite some time. Current mechanics are a bit unforgiving to say the least. I'm not whining about it btw, quite the opposite to be honest. Very much a challenge to stay alive given what we have become accustom too prior to this build. Eat and drink often, but limit your intake at each event, rinse and repeat and you should be fine. If you are on the move, carry extra goods to consume as running does seem to require extra sustenance. Oh and don't expect your favorite power runs / locations to provide what you had previously experienced. Lesson learned on my part...the hard way. Oh and btw, after 6 hours of game play I did not experience any of the issues that some have. Not one issue with being unable to control my character. -

Thx! Although I'm pretty damn sure that I dislike the moves to stable without something new on Exp. Not a big deal, eventually there will be no Exp. I suppose. -

So I see 0.49 has moved to stable, very nice. Looking at my favorite Exp. servers however and I got nothing. Been a bit out of touch, work related bs as usual. Is there short version of what's up? 0.50 should in theory, put us half way to beta, correct? -

I've come to the conclusion that it's genetics. Some people apparently are missing the walk up/down stairs chromosome much like some people can't walk and chew bubble gum or pat their heads and rub their bellies at the same time... imho of course. :P -

Were you at rest for a while before aiming? I've noticed that any energy exertion, running, etc. will offset the ability to aim well. If your character is huffing and puffing, then no dice... -

Really disappointed in the servers being stuck in the reboot loop so fast. I think there are 5 or so playable at the moment. On the good side of things, really liking the Zed/Infected path finding, new animations, etc. First fresh spawn, got my butt kicked after trying out the baton with 3 Zed's attacking all at once. Battery went dead, nothing much you can do after that other than run, which is what I did. Went head to head in a punch-fest only to bleed out for some reason when I attempted to bandage myself but couldn't for some reason, nothing happened after selecting use bandage then went unconscious so I respawned. Movement seems very much improved imho, though Zed's still pass through some walls, steel buildings and large barns are problematic. No issues with temps however, a little cold, a little warm, but nothing too drastic. In the couple hours I played I had zero CTD, but I did read the forums before playing so I had a good idea of some of the error states in-game. All-in-all, not too bad. -

I've literally spent DayZ looking for one to cut down a shotty, gave up and ended up dumping the shotty in the woods. They are around, just incredibly difficult to locate, especially when you're actively looking for one. Though this seems to apply to several other in-game items as well.

The first server that is highlighted has been around a while. Note the 64 slots. If you go back a few weeks, on Aug. 25th, the other was listed as one of the first test servers prior to 0.49 being released. I think I posted a screen shot somewhere. -

I'm curious to know what your definition of "a quality gaming experience" is?... This would help in providing some sort of guidance. What do you generally lean towards, Loot, PVP, PVE story depth, character building, etc...

Another odd thing about this is that it is random from server to server. Meaning one server may exhibit this and another, same location will not. I found this last week during a day long marathon with a deer bait shack. One server had the issue while the other was just fine. Population on both were about the same. -

Think of it as more of a challenge than a game and you might have better luck. Survival 101 you might say. There are bugs you will have to deal with however, it is still in early access. Someone posted about watching a few videos or a twitch feed. This would be helpful. There are also beginners threads posted here on the forum. The Red "X" servers are not the correct version for Exp. Those are the previous build. You want the Green servers, however, most of them, if not all at the moment are broken and will not let you join.

You probably want to post this in the DayZ Mod area of this forum. Not sure if the DayZ Stand-Alone folks here will have as much insight. If you purchased on Steam, I'd suggest right clicking on the game in your Steam Library and click on properties, then select verify game cache. This will at least tell you that your files are intact.

I've had this happen several times since the last couple of updates where a town appears to be quiet, you enter cautiously of course, only to be swarmed by 5 or 6 Zed's/Infected coming from all directions. If you're a fresh spawn looking for a melee weapon, I've found that it's often better to run circles around and throughout a town to keep distance from the Zed's while at the same time peering into garages and other open structures for a weapon as you run by them. Then circle back if you do find something, pick it up, and run away until you can compose yourself. You can punch Zed's of course, but that becomes difficult if there are several of them when you're not healthy yet and you've already used your shirt as rags and find yourself bleeding out.

Well...good question. Those small wooden shacks, short ladder with the deer feeders underneath them. What do you call those? They're not deer "blinds" that I'm familiar but rather I suppose some place to store bait. -

Isn't that a bitch! My first spawn after 0.49, it's raining, I'm cold, hungry and decide to run West. First thing I come across is a deer stand, and against all odds, it had a tent in it. Seriously, I'm in the middle of nowhere, freezing, hungry and I find a tent, wtf. I pitched said tent, ran off to find food, clothes and some type of weapon. Just wish I knew which server I was on... lmao!
