Idea: Fix KoS complaints, nametags, and many future problems by introducing "in game language"
burkino_026@yahoo.com replied to ace42 (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Hand signals! (obviously i mean "more" handsignals to those already in game) has been suggested before. pointing, waving, panic waving, stop kinda sign, and other that you can think of -
So why do people refuse being held up?

People are never happy. Just play the goddam game and shut up! -
Sorry for yet another topic on 3rd person view. Feel free to ignore or delete if you had enough. But I too had enough of reading the same old things on this very interesting but also annoying topic, and I just thought of a possible very simple and achievable (possibly already present in some game modes) way of balancing the two worlds. CROSSHAIRS One true advantage 3PP experts have over 1PP hardcorers usually have is the ability to do everything from 3PP comfortably, enabling them to use all the exploits the 3rd person allows them, with no real limits. One natural limit to this gameplay style is the presence of Crosshairs. Crosshairs should only exists when empty handed, to aid in item retrieval and object interaction (eg water pump, doors etc). Whenever using any weapon (meelee included, as i believe center of screen is a good enough crosshair for an hatchet) your crosshair should be the correct use of weapon sights. They exist for a reason, and this is the one reason. Anyone who cant use a iron sight on an M4 shouldnt even USE an M4. IMO, anyway. Having a dot in the center of the screen that points where your weapon will shoot is just the usual console game way of playing and removes the need for interacting with your weapon which this game actually allows you to do and is so satisfying. Of course, to make this whole idea work, the switch between 3rd person and weapn sights (right mouse button) should be limited by the required stage of switching to 1st person first, THEN to the sights. This is not only to techincally limit the 3rd person exploit but to also implement a sense of concentration everyone needs before using a weapon accurately, unless you're rapid-firing or panic-firing, in which case you can do it from 3rd person too. Sort of I turn a corner and there's a guy i didnt see there, and i shoot in panic and i probably miss him and he gets me. This should promote the use of first person view during combat, but will not arbitrarely force anyone to use anything at any one time, keeping true to what i think it's the developer's idea of this game: freedom of choice.

thatd be the best part. Die sniper, die (unless you manage to snipe us both. Then beans to you, sir)

removing the ability to write notes in the game because of racism is a bit BS. Then we should also remove chat and VOIP, and also usernames. Basically remove the entirety of free speech and writing. I'm sure there's a more plausible reason like server overload because of too many paper notes or something like that. Racism can be easily tackled by censorship and/or IP ban. If even IS a problem. Whoever takes an offence just by playing a videogame which has mature content in it is a bit of a crybaby anyway.

thats actually a good idea!!!! They could help you find food, players, water sources... Alert you of incoming dangers. Well, also give your position away...

Suggestion: Sleeping When Logged Out
burkino_026@yahoo.com replied to globalfriction's topic in Suggestions
I say it implement it partially, as a log out procedure. Basically, When you want to log out, you have to endure a timer, or you can just log out, but the character will lie where you logged out for a timer, leaving it vulnerable to everyone and everything, thus discouraging server hopping and combat log, just like in EVE. Sleeping should be an option and-or requirement. Same as rest. A result of the implementation of Stamina. Currently, you can run an entire map with no consequence. I've done it. Berezino to Balota, at a run-sprint. No effect on health. Didnt even need to drink and eat as I was healty. If stamina was present, I would have had to stop after say, 20 minutes, as I doubt someone would be able to spring for longer than that, unless we're all super-athletes. Jog I can believe. Not sprint. Rest will obviously restore your stamina, but only partially. Sleeping will restore fully, but its effect will be nerfed if you sleep in the cold and on the asphalt. Same with curing health and sickness. Rest and sleep will speed up healing if done properly. -
possible solution to 3PP imbalance?
burkino_026@yahoo.com replied to burkino_026@yahoo.com's topic in General Discussion
most of you are off-topic already. to those who still are on topic... No, it's not a full solution to everybody, but removing crosshair for weapons could be a quick and easy limitation that would help against those who exploit 3rd person view. You'd still be able to see people behind walls and beyond corners, but it would make it tedious to use your weapon immediately after, unless you're skilled at controls and movement, in which case it wouldnt really matter 3PP or 1PP because you'd know how to move around anyway. I'm a realism purist and I will use 1PP in engagement not to feel a real man, but to immerse and to better interact with the environment, but I do feel limited in 1PP only when not in engagement. My self-awareness drops considerebly. Dayz is 50-50 with engagement and hiking so, half of the game experience would be derped and would make me want to server hop to a 3PP ON one when hiking, just to feel self-aware. Not a big issue for me, i adapt easily, but I do aknowledge the discomfort of people in a 1PP only environment. I am not discussing 3PP vs 1PP, anyway. I was just suggesting the removal of crosshairs from 3PP when using a firearm. It's ok for me if you fire a gun in 3PP, but it should then be a case of total inaccuracy, as in panic-firing. But accurate fire should be limited to using weapon sights properly. -
possible solution to 3PP imbalance?
burkino_026@yahoo.com replied to burkino_026@yahoo.com's topic in General Discussion
I didnt want to tackle whether 3rd person is better or not. Just whether this simple limitation would settle both worlds in calling it a "fair" fight in a 3PP enabled server. I would. -
I like the stash idea. One could use it to store valuables somewhere. I'd like to see pen and paper function properly as well, maybe a diary too, so that one could note down where he buried something, and if someone kills him-her could read it and find the stash. THats just one scenario i could come up with. There are endless.
