  1. Cuff them with badly damaged cuffs, lead them to the top of a tall building, strip all of your gear off in front of them while crying into direct chat, then vault over the edge of the building while screaming, "YOU DID THIS TO ME"

    question about the map

hurr also you shouldn't use external voice with your friends because that's cheating. in fact you shouldn't interact with anyone else, then you can be like me!

Game would be fun if they had a smaller boundry

I'm not going to call you a troll or anything, I'm just going to offer what I feel is the main draw of the game to many players. The thrill isn't so much in the fight, it's in the lead-up to the fight. You don't know whether you're going to find another human being when you enter a new town. You look in from the outside to see if more doors are open than usual. Every little movement in your periphery feels highlighted. I've had my gun raised and sights trained on a slight movement, only to realize that it was a stray elk. I even hid beneath a dam and yelled at a pig before I realized, "Oh that's the sound of a hoof, not a boot, I'm an idiot". I mean, I still yell at pigs whenever I see them, but usually for other reasons. When you do see someone, you have to wonder, "is this going to be a fight?". You try to analyze their movements and clothing from a distance to guess at their intentions for entering the town. Not all Payday mask wearers are jerks, but is that a risk you want to take? They're crouch walking, are they being cautious or are they being shifty? If you were to shrink the map, there would be no question as to whether there was another player nearby. You would know they were near, and you'd have your gun waiting for them. It would be ARMA II, not DayZ. When your friends and foes are clear, and you have a basic idea of where they are going to be, it's just another FPS game. When you have a moral dilemma before entering a town, that's DayZ. The mechanics in this game are mostly crap. The optimization is terrible, most of the execution of concept is bad. The thing that drags us back is the ambiance. That ambiance is what still separates DayZ from it's competition, even though the competition has had better execution of concept for the most part. TL;DR shrinking the map would make DayZ just another FPS, and DayZ honestly isn't a very good FPS.

    Epic Sax Guy at berezino

I like how the one guy uses a fake voice that he thinks is funny to try and validate killing saxman. He literally couldn't think of anything clever to do, so instead of realizing, "hey, this guy had a cool idea before I did, good for him", he killed the guy to try and take over the joke in his own lame way, ruining it in the process. The OP is basically the David Brent of DayZ.

The most common 'cheat' used in DayZ...

bad_mojo, you've demonstrated that you don't understand what freedom of speech means. No one is censoring you. Freedom of speech means you have the right to voice a myopic opinion, and it also means we have the right to call you a moron. There is no censorship happening here.

The most common 'cheat' used in DayZ...

I love that you're using the fact that you don't have friends as a way to measure your in-game penis. You're turning something bad on your part into some sort of superiority complex, then erecting strawmen to defend your point. You're perfectly welcome to feel like you're the only "real DayZ player", the rest of us are too busy enjoying ourselves with our friends to give a rat's ass.

The most common 'cheat' used in DayZ...

I get wanting to role-play, but I can't believe there are so many people out there that think playing with friends is cheating. Ultimately we play the game for fun, and part of the fun is chatting with your friends while you play. I get the desire to play solo every once in a while, but one of the biggest parts of the game for me is shooting the shit with my friends while we make the long hike up to the NW Airfield or what-have-you. The in-game voip is so laggy and low-volume that having an enjoyable conversation is hard. You can't whisper or use sign language in-game either, so just pretend external voice is one of those two things if you're bothered by the RP aspect of enjoying time with your friends.

    Possilbe Flying in DayZ Standalone

I think helis work as ULTRA rare items on servers. As much as I dislike the "heli-hunt" that eventually happens, the fear you feel in this game when you hear a chopper coming near is something that is hard to replicate. I have many fond memories of hiding behind sheds/small rock walls as a helicopter hovered past, muttering curse words to myself under my breath the whole time until they'd lose the scent and leave. Doing quick tactical stops on the tops of apartment buildings/hospitals/solnichniy quarry were also fond memories, even when I'd screw up and clip my tail on an air conditioner, screwing the whole mission up.

    Biggest Killer in DayZ....

The only time I've died in the SA is from the Fire Station ladder in Elektro. I got on it, then suddenly the ladder sling-shot me 50ft away. I landed so hard I didn't even see a ragdoll, it was an instant black screen.

    Rolling Update Rev. 0.30.114008

See, you've made the guy's point in trying to disprove it. In the creative process, you don't plug in new pieces and fly away. You build a team, and add to it slowly, factoring in technical skill and chemistry. Seeing the way that you're talking about doing your job makes me think that I would never add someone like you to my creative team. You've shown that you absolutely don't understand the chemistry part of being a member of a team, which makes me glad that Dean and Co. aren't following the internet's advice in their staff decisions.

    Mods in the standalone

Vanilla is my favorite as well, but I still think that mods aren't a bad thing. I guess we'll have to wait and see what direction the devs take on mods in the future to see who is right. I think as long as the standalone provides a stable and enjoyable experience, it won't be threatened by any mods that pop up in the future, but that's just my thought.

    Mods in the standalone

I guess I missed that stuff, the most "outlandish" mod I took part in was Origins, and that was only after I couldn't find a non-terrible vanilla server. I don't think that those terrible mods were what killed the game though. The only reason I played a metamod was because vanilla was a steaming pile by that point. I'm thinking that you're focusing your dissatisfaction on the wrong target. I honestly feel like the rise of the metamods was a symptom of the vanilla mod's instability.

"Friendlies" are just a bunch of lamers

Still not seeing why this thread hasn't been nuked yet.
  15. So you guys are complaining about simulation aspects of the game when you know that this is built off of one of the most dry military sims ever? (and I mean "dry" in the best way possible) I'd actually love to see more effects of low blood, like a bit of staggering, and the distant "shimmers" that you get in situations like that (unfortunately have some first person experience with this). Dehydration/blood loss play horrible tricks on your brain.

"Friendlies" are just a bunch of lamers

Yes, this really warranted a new thread. Good job.

Killing a 3-man friendly group unarmed

Yeah, that wasn't a "friendly" group, that was a rock-fuck stupid group. There is a pretty big difference

Why there are no vehicles in DayZ SA

You made me laugh more than you should have. Bravo

    Mods in the standalone

So how is having mods to this game detrimental? The metamods and private hives were what resurrected DayZ Mod when the hacking in vanilla became unbearable. If vanilla keeps the hackers out, it won't die, and it and the future mods can co-exist absolutely fine. The metamods didn't kill vanilla, they were a refugee camp. A symptom. I'm not even trying to be antagonistic, I'd just really love to hear an actual anti-modding argument. So far the only ones I've been able to find have boiled down to "lol epoch was fuggin stoopid m8". If you've got an actual argument against modding, I'd absolutely love to hear it.

Light RP, Community Growth, Private Server Discussion

Jesus Christ, man. Cut the drama. The amount of hyperbole in your post is mind boggling. They have a whitelist, and a set of "community enforced" rules. They are whitelisting so that they can see whether or not someone will actually buy into the server rules, so that the admins don't have to micromanage everyone. If someone makes the effort of coming up with a backstory or characterization of some sort, it shows that they probably won't be killing new spawns for the "lulz".

Light RP, Community Growth, Private Server Discussion

It's community enforced, and they're choosing their community by hand. That way, the community will enforce the rules on themselves. If well picked, the admins won't have to do much, and can focus on playing.
  22. I'm wondering how many of the "look how big my dick is" guys and gals bragging about "3PP exploiters" actually play fully 1PP. I'm fairly neutral on the subject, since I actually feel disadvantaged when looting or fighting in 3PP, I don't like to have my FOV cluttered by my own body, but I'm also not going to rage about someone using 3PP, since it's a legitimate feature built into the game. Hate 3PP? Cool, there are servers for you. Like 3PP? Cool, there are servers for you. Don't really care either way? Awesome, there are a fuckton of servers for you.

    Should Cannibalism be in DayZ?

oh god comic book obsession haha ok If you're basing what you want from the zombie genre off of that TV show, then there isn't much I can do for you. As for the negatives, they're the only way that this would make sense within this sort of simulation. In this game, there isn't really incentive to do anything, that's sort of the point. It's a sandbox. This would just add another toy to the sandbox, with it's own set of drawbacks in return for additional choices. It won't make a huge deal to me either way, but I figure there's no harm in spitballing ideas.

Why does every person with a gun shoot on sight?

This approach to being friendly SHOULD get you killed. If you are a friendly, you basically have to play as a bandit, but instead of robbing and/or killing the guy once you have them where you want them, you help them. A hero in DayZ has to be ready and able to kill the guy that he's trying to help. If you don't have a tactical advantage, don't initiate contact.

    Should Cannibalism be in DayZ?

ahahahahahaha you're basing your statement on the Walking Dead TV series, not the actual Walking Dead. I won't spoil things, but yeah... You're way off on that front. I'd be down for it as long as it had negative consequences. Human beings are disgusting creatures, so infections and illnesses should be rampant among cannibals. The shaking should be a huge thing, which would actually add to the immersion for the people playing as cannibals. If that's the life you're choosing, you shouldn't be able to snipe, or fire guns well at the midrange. Once you've committed the act, you should be resigned to CQC as your means of procuring more meat. It'd be awesome to be able to identify them, maybe make their skin covered in sores or something of the sort. That way, they'd become sort of a 3rd faction of players. You'd have your heros, your bandits, and your cannibals.
