I met a player a few days ago. I was starving and the player offegedr to give me some food. Before I could get the food the player asked my name so I gave him my in game name. He then went on to say that he knew me he thought he really knew me. he accused me of shooting his friend at the airfield nearby. when I replied, "I shot your friend?" He yelled that I just confessed and he shot me in the head. My only response was, at least I didn't starve to death, then I clicked respawn. I fell for one of the oldest tricks in the book. Not very original, but that was the first time this particular thing happened to me. Welcome to DayZ...

It's interesting you say that. I work full time and am raising a family. I have a lot of lives. Thing is, our schedules don't always align so I end up playing a lot when everyone else retires for the day. I honestly don't know where I get the time or where it goes. Im Glad im not the only one.

Can I move in with you?

Never been killed by you but if I hear that song in game, I'll be sure to give a shout out.

I always find a new way to play. I think I'm addicted to the adrenaline rush. Been playing hardcore a bit more lately, in crowded servers trying to be nice enough to have non-violent interaction (not trying to help anyone, just let players do their own thing). I ran in to one guy who scared the shit out of me because he was right behind me before letting himself be known. Fully kitted minus bullets. I had the bullets he needed, he had the rifle I wanted, I had the rifle he was searching for. Get this shit, we traded, ammo and all. We both left each other armed and dangerous. Heart pounding the entire time. That was the first time ever that I traded ammo and weapons with a stranger. There's still so much more to this. And with the new zombie system, it's a whole new game. I can't stop. Everything else seems boring to me (every other game I have).

You never forget your first hundred. Congrats, added one more for ya.

The reason Zombie clipping isn't fixed.
Sinphaltimus replied to Dontstealmycheese's topic in General Discussion
I'm not entirely sure i know what method of hybrid method they are going to use in DayZ but it sounds like they want Zeds to behave just like players. there will be very few (if any) player accessible areas a zed cannot go. As such, it needs to be as streamlined as possible. Looking at the amount of Zeds in game now, Making the map a single simple 3D mesh is best for low poly performance and there is no way to accomplish that until the map is completed. Using the same collision detection for Zeds as currently employed for players would be too much overhead. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I didn't read every thread so i apologize if this was brought up already. First a little background. I have many years experience as a hobby 3D artist/animator and all around producer of digital content. i also completed my 4 year bachelor degree program in Game Art and design. i don't pretend to know more about it than anyone else because of my lack of industry experience. I have not worked directly on any commercially released titles although i am in the credits of at least one. So I'm going to explain my very simple understanding of the zombie clipping methods not being used because some of you seem to think the collision detection should be the same as for players and such. There are many methods that can be used, I'm only going to talk about a few. And to not sound like a know it all douche, I'm going to try and explain this as simple as i can using generic terms and long winded round about ways to explain complex things (even I don't fully grasp) as simple as I can. Stupid Random AI. you can have an enemy randomly walk around a map until it bumps in to something, then you can have it run a bunch of checks against which direction is best to move in, try that against collision detection and move on. If player is detected within a specific proximity, move towards player. This is basically Pac Man style AI and works OK for very simple games. even if the AI was improved to the point where enemies appear smart and choose paths logical to catching you, the amount of code is huge and not very optimal. it sounds like they are going with something like this using a topographical mesh that cannot be completed until the map is completed. Why I think this is good. Because they are treating the entire map as a single mesh which will keep the poly count to a minimum. You stop when you hit a wall because the mesh used for your player charector is more complex than the simple mesh to be used for Zombies. The collision detection and AI for the zombies would be too much. if they used that simple mesh for the players, it would be too simple and prevent a lot of the finer indoor movements a player can handle on their own. Unreal, quake and other shooter style AI and collisions, first, take in to account the map size. they are much smaller so the above Ai style can be used with less overhead. But, more importantly, that is not how it's done. Those kinds of games use path based AI. in other words, you setup waypoints on a map and an invisible line is drawn from waypoint to waypoint. the enemies are preconfigured to only follow those paths (and only stray a certain amount of pixels from them). This would never work in DayZ because of the open world and pathless areas Zombies can travel. So i think it's just a simple misunderstanding of the technologies being used as to why Zombie clipping even takes place at all. Personally, i would love to get a "game development" style interview going with BI specifically about DayZ and how they are meeting the challenges of this project. I for one would totally geek out listening to polycounts, texture maps, rigs and collision and physics talk. Let's not compare Modding to developing. Modding is a completely different geek talk 9ne that i enjoy as well). -
The only map in the world "DayZ Minecraft" Scale 1:1

You are very talented at a young age. I can only imagine that you really enjoy doing this. Don't stop. It can make you very successful doing the things you love doing as well as you are doing it now. Good job. -
I get the biggest thrill when playing alone on full hardcore servers. No friends, no teamspeak. Just me trying to survive. The rush I get when I see another player(s) is one only DayZ has provided, whether we are both kitted or not.

Why you should be playing on Experimental.
Sinphaltimus replied to Forrelist's topic in General Discussion
The only reasons I even consider playing on experimental eate what you said but more importantly, I'm tired of finding bugs and then finding them reported already. I want to feel like I'm doing my part. Lol. Yeah I know, "upvotel. But, I don't because there aren't enough open slots when I really want to play. More experimental servers and I might make the leap. Make experimental and stable two different steam installs so I can have both and I would be there as much as possible/available. -
Standalone Discussion/Critique from an Old DayZ Fan.
Sinphaltimus replied to TOPMO3's topic in General Discussion
Wonderful post. I've played some of the mod (slightly less 100 total pre and post Steam) but stopped add soon as I heard about a stand alone in the works. It's my hope the stand alone reaches the epicness I feel it can become. Even in early stage buggy alpha, there is no game I have ever touched that gets my heart racing and adrenaline rushing life this one. More threats, consistent and more threatening indeed. Other players should be the secondary threat after environment. Being a lone wolf should be damn near impossible for anyone without near perfect aim and control (proficiency with kb/mouse and weapons). Grouping up "strength in numbers" should be encouraged by the dangers all around. You can't force anyone to play a particular style but with a truly horrific unforgiving world, it might just help you to survive longer. I don't often play alone but when I do play alone I try to live by a few rules (especially when geared up). Join high pop server, never camp a spot for more than 5 minutes (keep moving), don't bypass towns or cities, investigate all gun fire (not necessarily engage) and check my 6. It's my scariest invented gameplay rules. Which is another thing I love about this game, anyone can play any way they want and it's not right or wrong (excluding hacks). -
How the hell did you guys even try the new patch?
Sinphaltimus replied to Rick1633's topic in General Discussion
I'll just say that my experience had been mostly positive. Played for about 4 hours last night. I did get desync twice that seemed it was taking too long to resolve so I logged out then back in and that solved it. It was also in my regular server that had a ping of 45ms for me and 15-25 people on during my session. With that said, I was also alone up north while my squad was down south fighting it out in elektro. Several of them were getting massive desync and kicks. We did observe periods of "so and so kicked, battle eye shit" messages all night and would see chunks of players losing connection every so often. So I think there are many factors involved. Instead of not playing at all. Go explore on an empty server. See if you can at least do that. Check out how the zombies are now behaving, Check out some of the new places and old ones that are updated. Check out some of the new items. Yeah, playing on an empty server may not be fun, but you can gear up and explore instead of not playing at all. -
For the guys with session lost / can't connect issues.

Guys, I believe when the OP says he had 100mbs conbection he is taking about his network card, that's his LAN speed. Everyone here (if you can play DayZ) had the same LAN connection or better (1000mbs or 1gbps) unless you have a fiber card installed in you pc or a much more expensive card which allows more but is usually used in enterprise datacenters . OP, having a gb router will not give you higher speed if your nic is 100mb. The port connected to your computer will autosense 100mbs and automatically connect at the slower speed. But that doesn't matter unless you're internet connection (WAN) is greater than 100mbs. Even at those speeds, I don't think many servers or on the internet could fill that pipe. Those kinds of speeds are for purple who stream HD while downloading huge files and game at the same time with multiple devices in there gone doing the same. Gaming uses much less bandwidth tops. I have crappy DSL 1mps up 3 mbps down and can play DayZ with minimum lag and desync not caused by the server. With all that said. I will check my jumboframe settings when I get home. Don't know if it will help but it's worth a shot. Most of my lag/desync happens connecting to a server or entering an area where others are so minimizing that would be great. Also, the devs know it's something they can fix too so done of this may not be anything that anyone can help with at the moment. I imagine higher internet sites with faster and decent lan gear us the best option. -
Someone can tell me why is that funny?
Sinphaltimus replied to hijacker1987's topic in New Player Discussion
One thing about DayZ players, no matter their play style, you have to adapt to every situation. I've played serious, I've played jokingly, I've role played even outside of the zombie apocalypse genre. I've met people who play friendly, insanity, torturers, KoSers, creepers, etc... And I've played as all of those too. A new life, a new adventure is how I look at it. Sometimes I really get into it, emotional and engaged, sometimes it's just a game. But every time it's worth it. For the experience, the entertainment value. Enjoy it for what it's worth. After spending data sneaking around and getting geared only to have it taken away in the blink of an eye, I've learned to appreciate all of it, it I wouldn't play. Not that anyone cares what I think, but sometimes, all you gotta do is shift your perception and look at it a little differently. And ifrme posting this can do that, then bonus. -
This thread rocks. Holy cap I needed this today. Replies and all. KoS, you have the best broken English I have ever read and I agree with those who love your posts. I enjoy them too. Thanks. "DayZ, better VALUE than a Polish whore." I want that on a T-Shirt!

Don't worry about the audio, it''s not important in the parts you can't hear. I no longer have need of a voice changer in DayZ so it won't happen again. I spent too many hours playing Gollum in DayZ and I was met with violence and hate every time. Seems no one has a sense of humor or a need to deal with role play (at least no one I came across this time) so I picked the simplest and most basic recording to edit for this. Thanks for watching, please like and share. And you really you *DO NOT HAVE* to KoS all the time. I'm saving much of the other footage for my next video which is going to be a DayZ montage of different events I've encountered while playing. http://youtu.be/AALLbZp5Shk

Jack Fraggs? Got a link? It's possible. I played for a long while and ran into different people but much of the video was unusable due to the audio issues. I'm ditching the voice changer. Edit: lol, just found the video you must have been talking about. No, wasn't me but I sure wish I could do that voice as good as that guy.

Server hopping will be mitigated when items respawn. Be patient. Zombies are respawning now (with today's update). Eventually, loot will too, So you'll never get to a place that is empty of loot without hope of finding something. The loot taken will eventually respawn without waiting for a server reset. EDIT: People aren't playing the game properly because it is not the proper game yet. "Alpha". EDIT2: For those who say loot respawn won't stop server hopping I say who gives a shit at that point? The only problem server hopping causes is the server gets cleared of loot and some people can play for hours without finding anything, Maybe even starve to death. That's the only issue caused by server hopping now. If someone wants to waste their night away waiting for timers instead of running around the map, so be it. Doesn't affect legit players at that point.

On the contrary I hope they introduce mayonnaise, celery and white bread so I can make a tuna sangwitch proper. Fuck your can openers. Go play CoD if you want can openers.

Survey: How many of you played the Mod or ArmaII/III?
Sinphaltimus replied to airfell's topic in General Discussion
I've got maybe 100 hours in the "vanilla" mod (pre + post Steam). Never made it out of basic training in Arma II. And maybe 2-3 hours on Epoch. -
It's taken me this long to realize something. Running with fists up = stopping when taking axe out. Running with fists down = taking axe out while running. Why didn't any if you tell me this sooner!?!?
