Are you playing the mod?
-
Private servers on the public hive are against the rules. Sorry, DayZ isn't Carebear-land.

What is the difference between these 2?!? Help please!

You actually buy a playable alpha version of DayZ Standalone, you are not "just" preordering it. However you shouldn't expect it to be a finished game, nor that you can play it always (due to bugs, that only affect you and e few other players, servers world wide rebooting every five minutes, fps issues that might even lead your high end machine to burn up in flames killing everyone in your block, etc.) This depends on which version of DayZ you wanted to play. Steam does not give any refunds at all, as far as I know. Maybe within a certain period of time after purchase, but you need to discuss that with steam support, on the forum no one can help you with that. -
I did think about problems implementing it and that server sided checks need to be added, which would put more strain onto the server. But I don't like to discuss ideas with these reasons, ideas shouldn't be looked at with technical detail in the first stage of their creation. I want to divide the idea in two parts: 1: Hats fling off after a shot close to the head (or at the hat) 2: Hats get ripped down by the environment. No1: Adds some funny element in shootouts If you are not dead due to the shot, but your hat is gone, you knew how close it was. Could make you really scared / feeling lucky Afaik player hitboxes are getting reworked anyway, this would add one hitbox and maybe need an animation after a check. No2: Running through bushes kicking your head off forcing you to go back is simply annoying. A lot of players will refrain from wearing hats in the first place Would need the ability to tie a string around the head to at least keep it around the neck (realism) Should apply to other gear, eg Sunglasses, too. I really don't see any benefit to No2, just annoying stuff that would reduce the amount of players wearing such gear and more and more players wearing gear that is fixed to the head (military helmets, motorbike helmets, etc).

The game you are playing is the Mod, made for ArmA2. The other one is a standablone game based upon the mod, but developed on its own, by the guy who invented the mod and the studio who made the ArmA series. The Standalone is currently in alpha. You might encounter game breaking bugs (which means you might literally be unable to play the game for days) and other annoyances. It is nothing more than a testing phase, you can participate in if you preorder the game. The Standalone has lot less content than the mod (eg: no vehicles, no bases, fewer weapons), but new content is added on a regular basis. I've never played the mod, I guess the mod has more to offer right now, if you are simply interested in playing a game. -
This is the section about the standalone, mod section is below.

Except for some more realism, what would this add to the game from a gameplay perspective? I like the idea with shots kicking a hat from the head - especially on cowboy hats it would be classic - but other then that I don't think it adds anything but annoyance.

He wasn't banned, just kicked. I assume being kicked does the same as logging out does, but I am unsure about that myself. I would simply write a mail to the server host, kicking players for PVP is not allowed.

With Rain Do You Think Hospitals Will Be Even More Dangerous Now?
Baarn replied to Deathlove's topic in General Discussion
It is a common misconception that cold weather and rain are the cause for the common cold or flu. I doubt the devs will implement something like that. -
Whats so bad about a software simulating a pressed key? It does not give a disadvantage to players who don't use it, not from a gameplay perspetive. The only advantage it gives to those who use it, is that they can use both hands to do something else. I have my laptop right next to my other monitor, and I prefer using both hands. I currently use the "heavy object on the keyboard"-method, even though I have a G15. I simply don't use it often enough to bother configuring my keyboard and there is a lot of stuff on my desk anyway. Actually people using autorun features are far more vulnerable than people who don't, they focus their attention on other things and lose their situational awareness completely. I don't consider this cheating, as it does not give you anything you can't achieve without doing it yourself. But I guess, that's just like, my opinion, man.

One myth you guys may want to clear up: - Deployed bipods reduce accuracy when standing (or not prone). I really doubt this and would like to challenge the myth on my own, but I don't have the ressources to do so.
-
However that is only speculation, I have not seen any evidence proving this. I usually retract my bipod though as it lessenes my silhuette.
-
Please don't make a post for every single cheater you encouter. I know this is really annoying and the forum might be a good place to vent your anger (or show your video of him cheating or you killing him, which is fine), but namecalling is much more likely to cause bad blood than to have any postive effect at all. The devs, mods or anyone on the forum can't do anything about it, and I mean about this specific issue, the devs can only solve the general problem. The issue is known - at least I bet that, haven't checked the bug tracker - and I doubt anyone who could access the servers logs will see this thread anyway. So what we end up with is three names accused of possible cheating, basically anyone going by the same name is now branded.

When sewing something it wont go back into its original condition. I always imaging pristine to be brand new, like something has just been unboxed. Worn is simply just so that you see it has been used, but it doesn't really affect the quality of an item (I am not sure if there is a difference between pristine and worn in the game, but it does not seem to be) Option B introduces skilltree-like RPG elements to the game, I don't really like the idea of skills in DayZ. I am not completely against that concept, but I think DayZ does fine without them.

It will get worse... .. and you'll probably enjoy it even more!

Oh have not seen a thread like this in a while... ... just kidding, just posted in one yesterday.

Not really. I prefered to put the axe in my backpack, so I was somehow forced to use a hunter backpack. But as the hitbox expands around the backpack and a hit can kill you, I prefer using the small courier backpack due to its smaller profile. And I wouldn't need that courier backpack if I weren't carrying a Mosin, an FNX and a sawn off. I could drop the handcuffs, keys and the sewing kit as well and I'd be fine. Actually I just gave the sawn off to a friend, so I could go without the courier pack. Don't need to do that though as it fits into my color scheme. The backpack is currently empty as you can see. As I said I could drop a bit of the other stuff, but I am a bit short on 7.62 currently, only one spare box, one or to packs extra would be nice. 1. It does not make any difference besides the looks 2. You don't carry food in your inventory, except you are just looting a town. Eat it right away. 4. You only need an ammo box if you have an M4A1, otherwise you'll probably never need that much ammo. 5. Rags have more uses (6 compared to 4), currently there is no drawback using rags. I'd carry rags and morphine. Epi-pens, blood bags and saline bags are only useful when playing with another person, and even then it is unlikely they will really help you. I am currently thinking of dropping the medkit. as it has the same amount of slots as a protector case, but restricts the items you can put into it.

Open doors and lack of zombies are good hints that players might have been in the area (or still are). Although a few buildings have doors that are open on default and not every zombie will react to someone running past. If one half of a town has open doors and the other half hast either means the player knew where wanted to go, was indecissive or is still around. Zombies running towards something are usually a good sign that someone else is there. Although sometimes they simply might take strange paths to run towards you. Simply because zombies are in the area and doors are closed does not mean there are no players, while avoiding zombies can be a bit random - their reaction is quite unpredictable at the moment - you can also close doors behind you and a some players do so. Oh and please use more descriptive titles in the future.

Damn, I read the title and wanted to post that. Fits so many encouters I had today.

PVE server are not allowed on the public hive. I currently join PVE servers, just to kill people, get kicked and report the servers. Funny thing is, you only get kicked when you kill the Admins (or their friends). Once shot at the admin and a bunch of his clanmates, but missed all my shots (high distance and I had a bad day). So they were not able to identify me (I guess they can do that looking at the logs) and simply started kicking random people off the server, not me though. I wonder if kicking a player leads to the character sitting down and entering the 30sec period, or if he is instantly removed.

You can use some of the ArmA2 Cheats in DayZ as well. Press "Left Shift" + "Numpad -" and type "fps" afterwards (you wont see anything while typing, but will be notified when the command was entered correctly) You can't lock the fps at 30, but at 40, 20, 10, 5 and unlimited. The command will simply cycle trough those values. This is only the upper limit if course, it wont give you more frames if you are below the limit anyway.

Why does no one visit an airfield? I can only answer from my perspective. There is no reason for me to visit an airfield, except I want to find a Long Range Scope. And if I did, I tend to visit airfields quite often. (no longer to collect the gear of course) I like the M4A1, but the risk it takes to completey kit out an M4A1 is extremely high compared to other guns. I played a lot with that gun during late December and January, I want to test the new rifles, too. I prefer beige/brownish/greyish clothes over the TTsKO clothes, I think they still provide decent camouflage in the field but they are also good in cities. And the TTsKO stuff can be found in civilian buidlings, so again it is not worth to take the risk. The hunter backpack... well I don't need it. I carry only the stuff I need. And in the end it is probably easier just to shoot someone with a fully kitted M4A1, a hunter backpack and other stuff, than taking the risk of colelcting it on your own.

I often find them in these industrial buildings with metal walls and one balcony going around inside (staircase leading up and a small "control room" above one of the gates). The barns with two big doors that didn't have any loot two or three patches ago are also a good spot to find them. I prefer the small courier bag, very nice, flat profile, yet it doesn't look as improvised as the large one. As I said above, very small profile. As the hitbox currently includes the backpack, it can save your life when being shot at, especially when prone.

Welcome to the alpha this is how bugs look like. Use the feedback system to report bugs or vote on them to mark their importance. http://feedback.dayzgame.com/view.php?id=2214 http://feedback.dayzgame.com/view.php?id=3822 http://feedback.dayzgame.com/view.php?id=4652 http://feedback.dayzgame.com/view.php?id=4821 (there are some more, search for "glitch prison", "glitch police" or something like that) Edit: main report is this one: http://feedback.dayzgame.com/view.php?id=8063 as you can see it is acknowledged, so the devs are aware of it and will sooner or later fix it.

Here are the rules and how you report servers: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/158966-dayz-standalone-server-hosting-rules-server-reporting/ If you only have the IP of a server and don't know who hosts them, you can often find it out using a tool like whois. Fortunately there are some websites providing the same service, eg: http://who.is/
