Why are freshspawns now referred to as "bambis"?
Baarn replied to omgwtfbbq (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Glad that I didn't need to ask, would've totally exposed me ;) On Topic: I refer to them as freshspawns, I don't like bambi as it carries the notion of an unexperienced player. I guess that Frankie probably uses the word as he does roleplay a bit and thus it fits his role. -
can you see your character stats like blood energy
Baarn replied to kiji's topic in New Player Discussion
Nope, and hopefully wont add it in the future. See Merinos Videos for in depth explanations on these stats. -

I someone going to spill the beans on who that youtuber is or do I have to ask? -
- As far as I know it currently runs under Windows Server. (CrocoDan answered the rest.) - You lose the one on the ground, restarts delete everything - If you place the rifle on the ground on server A, login to server B to do stuff, and then log back to server A the rifle will still be on the ground given that: I) no one took it II) server A didn't restart.

When you participate in an alpha you should at least have a basic understanding of your computer to debug the most common errors yourself and help in the process. That said, provide as much detail as possible. The more time you spend writing a good question the less time other people have to guess around which problems you might have, which will lead to a more satisfiing answer. What kind of computer (laptop or desktop)? Which components are in it? CPU, RAM, Graphics Card, maybe Harddrive? And if you don't know the specifics: which other games do you play without problems? What is your internet connection speed, do you have problems with it under other conditions? What exactly do you mean by lagging? Lagging is a very unspecific term used for a broad variety of symptoms. Is the game throwing you back every now and then? Does the game stop? What do you experience exactly? What are the numbers (Ping, DeSync) ingame if you press "p" and select your own name? Are they the same on other servers, how do they look like for other players?

How do sicknesses work and how do I survive them? A video explanation
Baarn replied to (TMW) Merino's topic in New Player Discussion
Ah, so you finished encoding the second one. Thanks for making all these videos. Hope this doesn't get geogef*ckt because of the song. Note to self: have to try this on a prisoner sometime. -
In my feeling this opens pandorras box. And pandorra has many cosmetic ingame items in her box to sell to people.
-
I agree on the first part, are you sure about the second? Might be that all the conditions from worn to badly damaged have a negative impact on accuracy.

I prefer a group of three. I can easily manage a group this small, you are quite flexible and still relatively fast. I am not sure how larger groups would work for me, we are all just a lose bunch of guys who know each other (real life or other online games) but not a "clan" and as such we have some friends who simply suck at the game but you can't really deny them to play with you. I had a guy in my team yesterday, a friend of someone else in the group, who managed to run out of Polana, just to end up there again ten minutes later... thrice... his objective was to go from Solnichniy to Altar west of Gorka. However it might change when the game matures as more people might become useful for managing other aspects of the game (hunting, looting, bsae-building etc).

is there a teleporting hack in sa ? because i swear i just got killed by a teleporter
Baarn replied to jsb010393 (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Not really a minor detail if you consider yourself a hacker and are put in the same group with people who are not hacking at all. Hacking is trying to understand how something works - usually by manipulating the system. Cheaters are just abusing the system and don't know what they are actually doing. -
Eat more, you need to eat at least ten cans of beans or a pack of rice and enough water to reach the healing/healthy status. Basically eat as much as you can. oh and check the sticky.

Color degradation from blood loss has to go (loss of visual fidelity)
Baarn replied to alleycat's topic in General Discussion
People are unable to manage their blood and health and complain about the effect? I can't swim, fix this, remove water from pool! -
I have never, ever, ever found a legit Mosin spawn yet. Only those with legs, and most of them log out when I try to pick them up. I prefer the M4A1 though...

"Never fly what you can't afford to lose." Told that a lot of people who sent me fanmail after I blew up their mission ships in lowsec. I am really happy that I finally discovered DayZ, never thought there were enough people who like the idea of permadeath in shooters.

The thread escalated quickly... not sure if its worth writing something actually related to the topic here, but I'll give it a try. I think the idea of setting up a road block is quite fun. The first critique that most teams only run around ganking might be true, simply because it is hard to control a large group and you will have one or two trigger happy guys in it who might lose their temper pretty quickly and shoot the person in holdup dead. I am usually in a squad of three or four people and even that small number is hard to coordinate. Lack of coordination is probably the weak spot in every large group, a single attacker could land some hits, and retreat, then strike again. No ghosting needed and would be much more fun.

I almost never use my gun against zombies, I prefer using the fireaxe. Simply because it is silent, not because I lack the bullets. I carry 3x60 mags (one in the gun) and a full ammo box of 5.56.

BattlEye detects software that messes around in the memory of the computer, probably not every software that does it, but popular software they have signatures on. Your Steam Account and Password are very likely in memory, maybe even on your harddrive (if you clicked "remember password") Dumping the complete memory isn't really a problem if you run everything in windows with admin rights, and a lot of people do it. So stealing a Steam Account should not be much different from stealing a CD-Key, once you have read access to the memory.

That FPS-Booster thing sounds very fishy. Why do people trust third party software that possibly messes with their game or even the rest of their computer? You wont download CreditCardFishing.exe, but when it is MakeGameAwesomeFast.exe it is legit? Your friend should send that tool to BattlEye, too, for them to check. But I guess his account is lost...

Player Identification and Classification System
Baarn replied to ZedsDeadBaby's topic in Suggestions
I like the basic idea, but it might give away the location of hidden players. It happens a lot that I simply run past my friends hiding in bushes and other players ran past me only a few meters away (the specific moment I think about right now I didn't even really try to hide). So I am opposed to automatically showing an icon above the player. I'd prefer an icon that only shows if you have a player directly under your "crosshair point" and _then_ press a button. (Still within a certain range threshold, so you can't exploit it to spot people) It might still be exploited in the night, if you are just hiding in a bush to evade combat, another player can scan all the bushes looking for you... Any ideas how to solve this problem? -
Not in my experience. Took a Mosin shot from 20 meters distance to my chest yesterday, was bleeding like a pig while I ran towards the guy and put two full 60 mags in the guys direction. Didn't kill him though, running and shooting from the chest with an M4A1 doesn't get you far, even close range. But I panicked as I wasn't expecting it at that moment, and he logged out anyway. Today I took another one or two hits, probably from an M4, not sure, was a hell of a battle on top of a hill. I was really happy to have a bandage in my inventory, otherwise this character wouldn't be living since last friday or so… And no, you can't put a rifle in your backpack. The only way you can carry two guns is to put one on your back and take the other in the hands. But that is painful as you have to drop the gun in your hand every time you want to do something else. (And you always risk losing the gun due to server restarts).
-
Easiest way to spot a Mosin is on the hill north of Elektro. Sadly a lot of them log out when you shoot in their direction.

I don't want to hate on youtubers, I love watching their videos. But honestly, how should this work? Who is considered to be a youtuber, or considered worthy? I have a youtube account, but I don't (yet) publish videos. Restriction on the number of subscribers? What if the person doesn't really make DayZ videos, or is famous for something else (eg Minecraft)? A lot youtubers change their ingame name so people don't constantly jump around them, I doubt those people want a vest. How is the item handed out? At spawn? What happens if the character is killed, does it drop? Even if all the questions above are solvable, does the time spent implementing this feature justify the result? As good as the idea might look on the first glimpse (which I don't think it does), I really don't see any benefit in implementing this.
-
You saw it on TV? Just our of interest, where did you see it?
-
I know where you are ;) I've actually never been there, always wanted to check that place out though. The problem with fresh-spawn beating the hell out of each other is simply because they don't have to lose anything, so risk vs reward is a simple calculation to make. I've been attacked by two guys today, even though I had an M4A1 and was fully kitted and they had only weak melee weapons. I understood their motivation though, they had only a few cans of beans on them, so not much to lose for them, but a lot to fight for. (Even if they'd killed me they would've been dead anyway, my buddies were just two floors below)

I didn't really care if the story was real or not, just gave you beans for good storytelling. That it actually really happened makes it even better. Because this sentence is said far too often in a negative context (and it shouldn't): Welcome to DayZ :)
