    Disabling My Internet

Have you modified the way packets are sent? (eg: enabled TcpNoDelay to reduce lag / desync) Have you tried connecting over LAN?

See hands when trying to use scope

This randomly happens, you can either change or remove the scope - switching to a different type helps, not sure if switching to another one of the same type works as well - or you can relog, which should solve the problem. Although it seems like your problem might be more persistent :/ It is probably related to the bug I have in mind, best to check the bugtracker about it.

    Improvised backpack

I think sticks... Crafted a small one for a buddy today, has 3x4 space, how much does the large one hold? I think the small one is quite nice for its small profile, how is the profile of the larger one compared to the hunting backpack? (can't really make that out in the screenshot)
  4. While a lot of laptops are marketed and sold as gaming laptops they simply can't fulfill that purpose. Gaming is not the purpose of a laptop. Gaming hardware needs a lot of energy to work, ultimately that is converted to heat which the laptop needs to get rid of. For that it needs a lot of space and airflow, both things that laptops don't have. To mitigate this problem, mobile hardware solutions are designed, they trade off energy consumption for computing power (both CPU and CPU) their primary goal is to have a minimal thermal footprint, so that the laptop still can get rid of that. A lot of laptops in fact have powerful hardware, but a crappy system to get rid of the heat. The hardware simply throttles down itself to prevent damage through overheating, it is merely designed for short boosts of processing power rather than a full gaming session. To be specific: 90W output on your AC adapter: The i5 in my desktop eats more than that on full load (I think 135W, not completely sure though), your laptop has to manage all its hardware and the screen off of that (and displays are usually energy whores). A harddrive with 5400rpm sure is a good thing to put in a laptop - as a mobile solution - small thermal footprint, low noise, average read/write. I speculate with a buddy that harddrive I/O is one factor for certain FPS drops and maybe even desync during DayZ, a 5400rpm hd wont do you any good. Sorry to say this, but again: Laptops are not made for gaming - there might be some exceptions, but for their price you could get a decent desktop plus a laptop. To give you some tips anyway, I heard there are some settings that offload load from the GPU to the CPU if you set them to low, as the RV engine is said to be quite heavy on the CPU, this can turn out bad and your GPU wont be doing anything while your CPU is in overdrive (again: overheat -> throttle down). It would be best to try for yourself what works best here. Only adjust one setting at a time and see what it does, unless someone has the same setup as you do, it would simply be playing the guessing game. An SSD might help, too. I wont guarantee for that, I'll have to investigate myself some more here.

    hey

I heard rain was removed because it caused too much desync, it will be added back later. (Only hearsay, not sure where I got that information, would be nice if someone knew a source)
  6. As much as I dislike the advantages 3pp gives, I dislike the disadvantages of 1pp. You are kneeling in front of a window it seems impossible to lift your ass some centimeters and take look over that thing. You are in front of a wood wall, that clearly has some see-through slits and stuff, but you can't get close enough to actually see through (if you've ever tried this in real life, you'll know how much you can see through a knothole in a wooden wall). Currently neither perspective is perfect and both lack "realism". Choose the playstyle and its according hive and leave other people playing their style.

    Zombie Speed

Zombies are placeholders, complaining about their current behavior is pretty much pointless as they will be changed anyway.

    what is "desync" ? QUESTION

Just to answer this: It happens to me that right after I join a server, I usually get 100 000 desync. This is not really a problem and - I guess - just means that the client and server are still synching. You want to keep desync low (at 0) during gameplay, however. I am not really sure how to actively do that, I suspect that high server and client load both can be responsible for growing desync, that is just from my observations as I've mostly seen desync on full servers and then people with weak hardware are more prone to having high desync values.
  9. If people run around yelling "friendly" all the time it is a good indicator that they are dead within the next few seconds. I've met too many people who just use it to reduce distance and punch you in the face.
  10. I don't really mind someone using an exploit to avoid death from bugs. If it can be used to avoid non-bug deaths, ie: non-ladder-bug-falling deaths, - and I highly suspect that - then please don't post it, but add it to the bug-tracker (you can mark your report as private).

    Demographic Profile Of Dayz Community

Can't be true, according to various other threads at least 90% of the players are 12 year old kids that cheat/kos/play CoD. Anyways... Age: 28 Gender: Male Location: Germany No Mod, No Arma (does Operation Flashpoint count?)
  13. It really isn't hard to initiate contact, but don't be surprised if you let your guard down and die. You'll expose yourself talking to someone, so you need to make up for that. Point a gun at their face and tell them to stop/holster weapon/not turn around. That can have three effects: - They'll log out (wont be a problem after the next patch, but even with the current patch some people just smell like combat loggers - eg those in full mil gear on any sniper hill), be careful of ghosters. - They turn around, draw their weapon or run towards you. Shoot them, no second warning, you tried. - They cooperate, lower your weapon too, keep a safe distance and talk. Don't be overly friendly, if you have a lot and they have nothing to lose, they still might try something funny. If you don't like their voice or way of talking, just leave. I usually stalk people for some minutes before initiating contact. To make sure they are alone, to see their weapons and their general behavior and to pick a good position for myself.

    Zombies...What do you think?

Quoted from the dayz mod site. (unlikely that this changed from mod to standalone) You might consider the zombies dead, their brain seems like it doesn't work any more (at least not as it used to, probably only controls vital functions, movement and perception). However they are clearly not "risen from the grave"-Zombies and neither brain-scorcher-mind-controlled Zombies. The specifics about the disease are unknown, I often think about them being something similar to the Zombie-Ants. While there is only a shell left of what once was a human being, I see no reason not to assume that the body still has to be supplied with nutrients and still needs blood flowing through it. Possibly at a very reduced rate as parts of the body might have been shut down, maybe even enter some sort of hibernation while not actively hunting.

    My opinion on upcoming changes

Don't forget that the experimental servers have a high fluctuation of users. The - practically nonexistent, but theoretical - queue on a full experimental server is much longer than one on a normal server. And a lot of those people trying to join have never played on an experimental server and thus carry no food. Not sure if the hive for experimental servers gets reset after a patch, if so the situation has to be even worse. So as you concluded yourself, this isn't really a problem of the new patch, but the experimental server. The threads title doesn't really reflect that.

    Zombies...What do you think?

Zombies in DayZ are not undead but infected, the whole "blow to the head" mechanic adapted from fantasy-horror does not work here. They are basically normal humans, their brains just no longer work correctly. Creating undead zombies would need magic, or at least some sort of demonic posession (which I'd count as magic) or another spiritual process (magic).

    I wish I could record.

You have to relog to get rid of the moaning. There currently is no treatment except relogging. Regarding the broken bones, you are correct. You can stand up, but as soon as you try to move, you will go prone again. Only sticks and rags or morphine can help in that situation.

First interaction after a weeks gaming.

When a person is standing still but does not respond, I always tell them how to use chat and VoIP via chat. Always keep in mind that a lot of people don't know how to communicate in game. It might also be possible that they simply don't understand you, not everyone talks perfect English and your accent might be hard to parse for non-natives, or your connection might be bad. It is also possible that their mic is off and they don't know you can't hear them. Three seconds is really not much time for someone who still fiddles with the commands, sometimes lag and or desync simply don't allow you to react even though you want to. However, I don't want to judge you here, really good that you tried the "talk first, shoot later" approach, just pointing out some things you might want to consider next time.
  19. Dropped items last until the server restarts. Server restarts might happen frequently, unexpected and without any warning.

    Someone explain zeroing to me!

The missing piece of information is what distance the topmost bar assumes, ie: which zeroing you need to make the other bars accurate.

How to make the sawn off shotgun

I watched the video because I could not believe someone would make a video about this. I was wrong... I expected something like this:
  23. It took me ages to find a can opener, compared to pre-114557. Didn't have a problem finding an axe though.

    Please eliminate server restarts

It was stated by the devs (I think rocket) that eliminating server restarts is a long term goal. There might need to be restarts every now and then afterwards, but it shouldn't be a necessity of the game itself, aside from updates and stuff.

    Weapon extinction

I can't really support the statement of mods being scarce. I played the game on Friday, and played as I used to playing, roam the cities to find supplies and stuff. I found a Mosin in a house, purely accidental. I ran around a bit more and found a pristine PU-Scope, was looking to find it. I spray painted my Mosin, which broke it, so I had to find another one, which I did very quickly. Then I found a Compensator, while looking for a long range scope. A glitch made me slip trough a wall, up from a tower in Cherno and I died. I was pretty pissed and decided to server-hop to farm back my gear, especially as retrieving gear is not possible at the moment. I normally don't even attempt to retrieve my gear after dying, I really like the idea of death and having to start over again, but I really wanted the compensator again, to test it out some more and could not accept this stupid glitch to be a sufficient excuse for my characters sudden demise. 2 hours of server hopping resulted in: Complete pristine TTsKO and a helmet, pristine ACOG and Magpul M4A1, three Long Range Scopes (worn, 2x damaged), and a lot of other stuff I wasn't even looking for. Then I finally found the compensator and went on to find I mosin (I decided to do that without hopping). Found a Shotgun within 20 minutes, a Mosin right beside it. I can't compare it to how it was before the patch, but If I knew where to look for Compensators and Scopes before, I could have done this in probably less than an hour. I have no idea how much time people, who regularly hop server, spent before the patch to get kitted. But I think the above is completely acceptable. I really hope server hopping is made impossible though. Would be nice to be able to retrieve gear after bug induced accidents. (which is quite impossible to implement)
