Nope, it is the newest fad to circumvent the "No PVE Servers" rule. It isn't allowed to kick players after they killed someone, but the rules don't say you can't restart the server afterwards. Report the server to the provider anyway.

Melee weapon player damage isn't right.
Baarn replied to Borges (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Who was the whiny 14 year old again? Edit: Seriously, if you want to complain about the damage and the effectivity of weapons, state it in a reasonable manner without judging the other person who was more skilled / had more luck / did something else right. -
Regular or Hardcore? There's no difference!
Baarn replied to Benjow's topic in New Player Discussion
The big problem with first person I see in this game, is that it isn't designed for it. I ran with a weapon in my hand and wondered why I was so slow (you can't even see guns in your hands unless you aim or look straight down), as the menu constantly disappears. I once ran half the way between two towns crouched and again wondered why I was going so slow (was a bit uphill, though), there is only minimal difference between the heads height while moving. The reduced interface (which I like) gives no feedback at all about myself. When in 3rd person the animations are clearly distinguishable, but when in first person and I want to quickly change stance and sprint away, especially with lag/desync dropping commands, there is no way to tell if I really rose my fists and started sprinting. I hope this will change, especially when some bugs are fixed and more fluent transitions between animations are implemented. The world doesn't seem to be designed for 1st person. Walls and windows are often just a tiny bit too high, and you can do shit about it and need to completely stand up to look through. Loot spawns in places you can't even see in 1st person (on top of some some shelves). I hope these issues will be adressed. But at the moment playing 3rd person, seems much more fluent. Mainly because of the visual feedback the minimal interface-design clearly lacks. (Edit: I will continue to play both, I just think both perspectives have their ups and downs) -
I wonder if there is a fixed percentage to destroy a gas station with a certain weapon, or if the damage accumulates over time until it is destroyed. Results of test #4 are good to know.

Cannibalism should be an option when starving
Baarn replied to Miquinei's topic in General Discussion
Has already been discussed in the appropriate forum. http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/169554-cannibalism/ http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/168722-we-need-cannibalism/ http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/168019-how-about-cannibalism/ -
I usually use stuff in my inventory to force the server to save my status (eg eat something or move stuff around). The added benefit that comes with this is that you will notice if the spot is safe or not. There are certain spots in the woods where zombies can spawn however, or where other players might have trained them to. So upon login you are never 100% safe. Lost my character yesterday to a server restart hickup. It sucks to lose a character to quirks in the game, but hey, that's why we are playing the game. Best to check the bugtracker for an issue like yours and give that report an upvote. And you could also check some of the client command line options from the fps-guide, which might lead to a faster loading time of the world and the game. (I disabled them, as it didn't really have a big impact on my game)

There are two layers of spying. If you do it completely in game, you are role playing a spy, I am completely fine with that, you are in a game. However most groups don't work like that. They meet up on teamspeak and apply several meta-gaming aspects to the game, socializing besides that one piece of software. This is no longer part of the game, you are spying on real people here, no longer just on their avatars. This is taking the game to a level I really dislike, it makes in game competition a real life competition. I play for fun, I want to kill people in game, I want to be able to completely fuck them over in game (or get completely fucked over), but I still want to be able to meet them afterwards and not be mad about it. I am not sure if there really is a way to do spying that would be acceptable for me, using voice chat and telepatically telling your friends in teamspeak is too much meta.-gaming, too. Even though of course I use teamspeak myself, simply because of the better quality. I would even say it is nearly impossible to roleplay a spy without applying metagaming tactics.

Elektro is still a good spot for any sort of PVP, from boxing and axe fights over to pistol duels and getting sniped from the hill. A lot of people are now going to Berezino, as Elektro became to risky. As Berezino is quite stretched, it provides a different kind of PVP. Cherno is, in my experience, pretty dead currently. Most people die in Elektro and those who don't continue past it towards Balota. A lot of people head inland, there are some hot spots, too. But those people are usually not armed, so I wont tell you more. Oh, and to answer the question from the title: Usually somewhere I have a good view at common sniping hot spots. If they have a clear view on a lot of places from one spot, there are a lot of places to have a clear view on that one spot.

The Map is smaller when compared to Day Z Mod's Chernarus
Baarn replied to AG-D.Wright's topic in General Discussion
I hope infini-sprint gets nerfed at some point, maybe by adding something like stamina. I think the out of breath sound is a hint that this is planned. I prefer to have it until other means of transportation are close to being implemented, though. -
What are some good servers that a new player should visit?
Baarn replied to WarHasNoRules's topic in New Player Discussion
Every server is as deadly as the other, I really don't see much difference. You can have friendly encounters on the server you just got axed to death in. As soon as someone posts a "new player friendly" server here, you can be certain that this will change. Or they just want to lure you in a trap? Or you just want to feast on new players? Who knows? Welcome to DayZ! :) -
mosin + long range scope -> new aiming behaviour?
Baarn replied to Ovomaltine's topic in General Discussion
- There is a new item, the Compensator, which increases accuracy. I've not shot the Mosin without it for some weeks, so I don't know if that needs to be factored in. - The recoil was increased. It is a bit hard to tell because of the following: - The reload animation, cycling a new bullet into the barrel, now follows the shot. Not releasing the trigger (holding the mouse button) should delay this a bit. Compensators are quite common, I usually find one before I find a mosin, but it is quite small and hard to spot if you've never seen one before. A bit bigger than a battery, comparable size to a pistol flashlight. Can be found in military or industrial buildings (I think I've seen them in pubs and schools/offices, too). I don't really feel the Mosin to be unsteady, neither prone nor standing, even though I prefer to shoot at least crouched. -
Servers Putting TS Info In Welcome Messages
Baarn replied to dusty_nuttles's topic in General Discussion
I don't really see a risk here. You should always assume, at least to a certain degree, that the person you killed wasn't interact with isn't alone. It is your decission to stick around a place after you had a hostile encouter with someone - regardless if you robbed, killed or just threatened them. -
There is a holster in game, which occupies the same slot as the assault vest. Currently - unless new holster are added - you need to decide what you prefer.
-
Snakes are usually not agressive and hide before you see them. They wont attack, unless you come to close to them, and that would probably be because you were looting something they were hiding in. This only adds a random factor of death (or poisoning, depending on the strenght of the venom) to the game, I don't really see how it enhances the gaming experience. I guess this is as fun as death by ladder.
-
I use zombies or street signs for that purpose. The idea is nice, but currently items are not affected by getting shot at. Not sure if it is really worth implementing, unless other features benefit from it as well.

I think it is extremely funny how the OP permanently asked for points that speak against PVE, but as they are told he fails to provide an answer. Enabling PVE-servers takes away time from the devs, they would have to think of ways to solve the problems that have been named before: Training Zombies towards other players, injecting wrong blood, force feeding, etc. All these things are not simply on/off switches but take a lot of effort to balance out so that PVE-servers could work. In the future more problems would arise, every feature would need to be checked how it would affect PVE and if it could be used to kill other players. So if a programming solution can't be found, the best thing to do is to provide a set of rules that is checked by the servers admins. This can't work on a public PVE hive, admins are not allowed to ban on the PVP hive and they wont be allowed to on the PVE hive. In addition to make it work on a public hive, the team would need to create a ruleset. Looking at how many people argue over the current hosting rules, I doubt that would be a good idea (and again, who should enforce that?). Finally PVE folks would demand content. While the people who currently think PVE is a good idea, more (worse) people would follow. They'd cry for "bosses", more interesting PVE etc. Which then would take even more time away from the devs creating the game they initially wanted it to be. Don't get me wrong here, I don't mind having a more interesting PVE experience myself, but it should be balanced towards the PVP aspect of the game. Wait for private hives, write down your own set of server rules and enforce them yourself. Then you will have to deal with all those people who try to evade the rules by finding holes in them yourself.

General "DayZ freezes after new Patch (0.34)" and "FPS drop" discussion
Baarn replied to Satanicraven's topic in Troubleshooting
Is there anyone besides me who finds it strange that the devs seem to be more active on reddit than on their own forum? Why does this place even exist? (Edit: No trolling or flaming intended, just a honest question.) Edit2: Oh well should've read that one answer that was talking about the same, let me drop some beans for you. -
As the alpha progresses and bugs are fixed, a suicide option to escape glitches, bugs or even cheats or exploits, will become less and less usefull. I'd rather have the devs focus on fixing these things than have them implement such a suicide option, which will likely be exploited by too many people, just to get a better spawnpoint. And yeah, there might be ways to implement it, so that it prevents suicides, but still that would take time to implement, test and roll out.

When mounting a ladder: - Don't crouch or crawl. You will become a perfect target as soon as you climb anyway. - Free your hands, holster or shoulder your gun, don't be in aggresive stance (space). - Get into a safe distance, don't be too close to the edge of the wall, don't be too far away, about half a meter up to a meter seems fine. Ladders have become safer in my oppinion, it is still possible to gltich off of them, but especially as the fall damage is now supposed to work correctly, a morphine shot might be all you need after most ladder glitching.

radio voices ? family tax splitting ??? QUESTION
Baarn replied to rotteck's topic in New Player Discussion
I agree that German porn is bad, but not THAT bad. Sometimes you can hear ingame voice over large distances, it seems like they are talking over the old side-chat (I didn't play the mod, only know it from Arma3 videos, but I assume it was in Arma2, too). I don't think it is possible to actively select this chat, but there seems to be a bug that lets you speak in side-chat none the less, without people knowing. Once had two guys disclosing their position to the whole server, it didn't sound like they were even actively using ingame-voice intentionally as they were trying to meet coming from different places. -
I don't think this is intended behavior. Report it on the bug tracker and provide a link here.

New Patch Memory Leak: Possible fix/workaround
Baarn replied to antykain's topic in General Discussion
Yeah, I think this is a possibility, too. I played for several hours without problems yesterday, then I came close to other players (not the first time that day, though) and I experienced massive drops in fps until I needed to force quit the game. -
I dislike the ideas to make special clothing (or options) for women only. I prefer not to have any special customization and not to keep men from wearing womens clothes, if that's what they want. This only adds to the complexity of creating the clothes for the devs. You'd not only need two models for the clothes - one for women one for men - as it is currently ingame, but you'd also need extra code that runs on the server and checks if the clothing can be worn by that character. We already have a lot of vanity clothes ingame: canvas pants, cowboy hats, ushankas, beanies, etc, they all serve no apparent purpose, I don't mind if a few other items would be added to that. Tanks tops are a great unisex thing to add first, a lot of men wear these things in real life. Make a skirt look like a kilt on a male model, hot pants are worn by some dudes in real life (although I think that was more popular back in the 70s or 80s). Character customization is a different topic. I like it, but I think it is not good to discuss it here (it has been elsewhere) and it is said to be implemented anyway.
-
Realistically there will be womens clothing in a post-apocalyptic world, too. I don't really have a problem with dudes in dresses yelling "I am a little princess". And there is a lot of clothing I wouldn't use, whats the purpose of short canvas pants other than a "vanity item"?

Critical Unplanned Update of 0.34 to Stable 7 February 2014
Baarn replied to rocket's topic in News & Announcements
The bug gave a whole new meaning to permadeath... When will the patch be deployed to the clients? Mine doesn't update
