Go check out the ArmA3 Mode "Wasteland" which has a similar gameplay as DayZ, but you can choose between 3 Parties. imo a very nice appraoch with existing arma features. BlueforOpforIndependentAs Bluefor you are not allowed to teamkill any other Bluefor. Same as Opfor vs. Opfor. Its basically Bluefor vs. Opfor mixed up by Independents that can do whatever they like and thats nice for lonewolfs who like to survive inbetween the "banditwar". To identify Bluefor from Opfor there's icons above the PC's. In generall the Wasteland mod has some nice features like being able to tow a vehicles when damaged or a monetary system where you can buy and sell stuff at NPC's shops. Only thing missing compared to DayZ are the Zombies... Till DayZ gets some more functionality i stick to Wasteland with more or less organized teamplay and the option to be a lonewolf and hide from the two big parties or sabotage them...

i dont think it should be combined with kill stats at all. also it should be subtle and without public ranking.

Add "quests" (not quests...ummm opportunities)

more interaction is on the roadmap! give the man a break... some good ideas he got, but took the wrong label for it ;) 'dynamic environment' which needs teamwork to disstract some of the KOSers :) -

Level KOS with share/trade, earlier sound warnings and shout option
mike miller posted a topic in Suggestions
Situation KOS happens mainly due to the following reasons imo: - Need for loot to survive and additional weapons etc. - Being unaware of another player approaching and being unshure of his intensions - Bored due to lacking content or the thrill of PvP hunting other players Suggestions Inventory interaction with other players should be easier. Add a sharing option. Being able to give/trade loot easier without the need to drop it on the floor and with some kind of reward for sharing. - a option to open up a give/trade menu with a quick access to the inventory and a drag and drop to other player possibility - a option to share a item. e.g giving a can of beans to another player with the share option would result of dividing the item into two item with 50/50 content. so you keep half and give half to the other player. also be possible with rags and other items with a content more than 1. e.g. blood etc. Better awareness and communications Better awareness of other players due to increased player sounds as well as a shout option for long distance communications - Door sounds. have been suggested in other threads as well. Two ways of oppening doors. fast and loud and slow and quiet This way one could be alerted earlier that another players or a zombie (always fast and loud) enters a house. - Increased player sounds like louder footsteps, equipment, sounds and weapon drawing sounds - Have a option to shout which will increase the distance of direct coms. e.g. talk 10meters, shout 50-150meters Imo with these additions it could lead to more negotiations and less KOS. ofc one can still kill another after negotiations and sharing/trading loot. but KOS should happen much less and more other interessting interactions should occur. some of this has been posted on other thread, but i tried to put it togeher so dont flame me... lol, numbers and bullets points are black, so there goes my structuring... :) -
this is what should happen more often, but not out of nowwhere, maybe that was a spawnbug? ...but its not like a horde, more like 5 zeds ;) a horde to me is anything above 10... but nice save of your buddy!

there are many nice arma2 maps that could be addapted to DayZ. I dont see the point in creating new one, but converting excisting maps to DayZ seem doable imo., but maybe its not that easy...

i do love the idea of hordes and camps with barricades and im shure it would influence KOS and playstyle in general if the NPC-Z's would be a bigger threat than PC's. i guess the problem with the hordes is the huge map. even the population of bigger towns and cities is a challenge since the entities per server are limited. its on the roadmap to find a solution to increase their numbers. but to shift gameplay we need a huge increase, so i suggest to throw in the "Zombie Mutant" who is really hard to kill, shots to the body dont stop him but only 3 shots to the head and he moves faster than the comon Z and in ziczac pattern ;) "panic strikes our survior group as they spot a Zombie Mutant on the horizon" :) but thats a little of topic, sry -
with the Furnace and the addition of blackpowder you should be able to make ammo!

i guess u guys are hungry in RL. so grab a snicker and stop being divas! ;) we need more food variations in general, but i guess that will arrive with the hunting system. if not bacon you'll get a deer steak 4 shure... as for chickens i'd love to see the option to kill a chicken and get a quick breast or capture the chicken into your inventory, maybe in combination with some handmade cage and have a egg a day! maybe you could combat train it also and release the egg throwing chicken onto some bandits ;)

the arma engine was not made for melee combat, so the devs have to completly build it up from scratch and im curious how that will come out if at all...

how about you dont find complete guns, but only the different parts and they are scatterd all over. this way acquiring a fully funtioning gun is more difficult and trading and coop play could increase, if the parts would take significant damage from gunfire or melee kills... -

thx for your contribution troll! maybe you wanna share some of your skills and brains? two players run around a factory corner, both start shooting brainlessly till one dies and the other is very low on blood. ofc that needs a lot of skills and brains to achieve! with my suggestions this can be avoided and lead to other more interessting interactions or a more tactical gunfight. if i wanna KOS in style with better effects and features i go play Arma 3 ;) -
i dont think this has a influence on KOS. it suggest a mainly personal time log and titles according to the amount of time you survive. the only small influence i see atm. is that it disstracts players who KOS a lot and focus more on survival with the help of others instead killing them on sight. but KOS is the easier way to survive atm. so that wont happen much...
-
Yup the core idea is stats about survival time and some achievement titles about it. Zombie kill count could be a option, but since they are so easy to kill i dont see it much rewarding atm. maybe with time there will be different kinds of Z's, some much harder to kill and then stats could become interessting... but then i dont see any hint atm. that dayz has or is planing a stats db. but i do hope that they will consider it, since it could be an extra motivation and help with longterm replayability. I agree that any stats about pvp should be totally avoided.

opening doors must have a sound in the minimum. then a nice feature approach that might be realistic to develop: have the option with the door opening icon 1. fast and loud (alarms zombies within lets say 50m) 2. slow and silent then if you want notch it up you put a random (20%) loud sound in the silent approach, since sometimes you are not able to figure out the mechanism and it sounds off anyways. "crank... bad luck bandit!"

ofc you like a trench-coat, but a black one with several knifepouches, right? Mr. V ;)

3. Some form of ranking or being able to track survival time/zombies killed/players killed. Survival time has been nicely suggested here and i strongly support it: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/163066-name-of-the-game-survival/ as for kill stats i dont think that would fit, since its about surival and not killing primarly, with it it would become even more like a FPS like BF and COD... -
A Skilltree with perks that influence gameplay is imo not suitable for Dayz. its a mmo survival game that needs your own witts and interaction with other players to survive. also the priority for fixes and new features lie in much more needed areas. i have played Fallout New Vegas with tons of singleplayer content and endless mods for those RPG perk elements. but DayZ doesnt need that, but other features that do not influence balance caused by unlockable skill persk, but rather tools and loot that help you survive and defend yourself and will be lost once you die! in Dayz its the loot and what you make of it that counts. i suggest you read this post that porposes survival time as an achievement with a possible title unlock over time, this is the kind of feature that would fit very well with Dayz imo: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/163066-name-of-the-game-survival/

this forum already provides some nice title ideas: On the CoasterScavengerWoodland WarriorMaster of Random10th Level Bean WizardBean Kingetc. im shure the devs. or maybe even the community, could come up with some extra creative, funny, selfsarkasm (Rotten Kiwi Collector) and immersive titles and then you can even add some adjectives like seasoned, hardend, rookie, fresh if even needed to have more title variation lvl's. the interval of time for title change could be shorter at beginning and longer towards insane survival time so its not becoming spamy... then have the survival time title displays in the game screentext. "you just have become a Woodland Warrior". the time and title i'd also like to see in the inventory close to the character. on top of showing survival time and a according title it would be a nice to have feature to scan another players title. this could work automatically like that: if you stay close (10m) to a player longer than 1 minute a screen text would say: "after taking a closer look at this stranger/hiker you realise its a Bean King etc." if there are more players around you it could say "you find yourself surrounded by a Scavenger, a Woodland Warrior and a Bean King etc." could add some more drama and immersion. So please Dev's and all mighty Rocket consider: Survival time (Current, Average, Longest)Survival title according to time survivedTitle scan on other players (within range and time regulation), nice to havei hope this would give even more motivation to survive, a small form of rpg achievment and the effects described by Teemo above and hopefully other positive survival effects!
