Base building, I believe, is crucial to the success and longevity of the standalone. It doesn't have to be crop farming, animal husbandry or anything like that (not saying I wouldn't like to see it) but the ability to store a valid amount of loot and work for something a little more than just what you can carry is a must. In the actual apocalypse, do you honestly believe that you would just wander around the same world aimlessly, only taking what you could pick up and carry and never storing anything for the future or creating a safehouse for you and your friends? I don't. Also, I believe there is a reason that Origins went from being the top mod to a polarized switch in popularity when Epoch introduced it's non-linear base-building addition. The ability to build and store makes players want to continue playing and gives people something to work for more than killing fresh spawns on the coast. Just my two cents.
