Declination in DayZ? Agree one hundred on the topo maps. I fucking need to know how high the hill is going to be so I can terrain associate. Let me find some American MGRS maps at crash sites. No Blackhawk flies without em. Persistent notes/map marking? Hell yes. Also, orient your map north, and you don't need to rotate the bezel. Less steps-less room for error. I do really want to see the compass/map interaction kicked up. But I also want a GPS.

I agree with almost everything you've said here, except 1)operating and maintaining an LMG is definitely something you can suck at, even with the proper training. Whether we give a shit about simulating that ingame or not is irrelevant. 2) The gear they've included tends to facilitate the survival aspect of the game, not LMG shootouts. Granted, the current build is a PvP wet dream, but the framework is in place for a game that an LMG won't have much purpose.

You aren't real good at answering direct questions. If you think of the core concepts of a survival game, and what the developers are attempting to accomplish given their stated goals, a focus on military gear just aint part of it. Specifically, the idea of surviving this whole thing needs to be rooted in reality to some point. Where's the fine line? Probably falls way short of tanks, but automatic rifles are probably well inside the line. LMGs are starting to push it.

The server I had my tent on got wiped. Which was fine with me, I located a couple hacker tents outside Bz. Dude had ammo box inception, about 20 levels deep. Loaded with frags, flashes, etc. I axed them.

Some janky shit, even that "SPESHUL FARCES" helmet. And, the game doesn't need LMGs. Realistically the level of experience required to maintain and fire an LMG begins to become prohibitive. An individual survivor would chuck that thing in favor of the first AK/SKS he came across. As far as that flak vest, lol. The 80s called, they want their body armor back. But it actually is a decent choice for Chernarus, though in a survival application the UK vest is far superior. What in the game now is tacticool western operator?

What you need is some actual land navigation practice. Terrain association is something every DayZ player will use to some extent. Eventually you will commit the higher traffic areas of the map to memory, but it is large enough that you can easily find yourself in an unfamilar place. Using a compass, you should never be lost. Set a backstop, gain an approximate azimuth, and you will decrease the amount of WTF moments. You have to learn to look at the map, and be able to visualize what the terrain will look like. DayZ DB isn't the best for this, as it has no contour lines, but we make do. Other navaids include the sun, based on server time, and the clouds, which always move east or west.
