I love how the wolves are only on their side. And will attack anything and everything given an opportunity.

I can't wait for DayZ basebuilding/barricading. I posted these screenshots on the DayZ reddit and it received good and bad criticism. Some players are wary of barricading/basebuilding fearing that the feature would change the gameplay too much and/or ruin the game. And some like me can't wait for the feature! It's going to be fantastic because basebuilding/barricading will take time and effort therefore players who really want to put in the effort will succeed at it and those who only care for murder will carry on doing what they do today. Basebuilding has so many opportunities. Just think about a base set up by a group that has player run "trading posts" where you can barter your gear with the player for food, clothing, ammunition etc whatever that player has found around Chernarus and decided to trade it for something else he needs. It won't be easy for players to get into a base as long as you lay traps outside in strategic places. Barricades alone won't stop bandits but traps and players guarding the base/barricaded house or settlement could stop them. Simplest base, just a barricaded house - http://imgur.com/a/k0bqp Base set up on a dam (trading post included in the base) - http://imgur.com/a/foYXj Red warehouse building used as a base, fortified with barricades and pitched tents. The containers would already be there (as they are way too heavy for players to move) Enterable containers are ideal for stashing loot or simply using as living quarters - http://imgur.com/gallery/yQbCm Inside the red warehouse again with detailed explanation of where the tents, portable lights, generators and other furniture items could be looted from and how they could be used by players - http://imgur.com/gallery/Cc2TC Bases/Barricades should not be easy to set up. The materials would need to be scavenged/looted from around the map and to transport those materials you would need a truck since carrying 20+ planks and 20+ corrugated steel fences is not something a player could do without a truck. Don't forget tools also being needed to set up fences. You would need a chainsaw or regular saw to cut the planks to size. You would need an electric screwdriver or a manual one to screw in the planks or use nails and a hammer. You would also need a crowbar to break down barricades if placed incorrectly (maybe mistakes were made?) and/or to scavenge/loot the materials from pallets (planks) or construction sites (corrugated metal sheets)

Barricading and Basebuilding Concept
LackLustreSurvivor replied to LackLustreSurvivor's topic in General Discussion
I'm not sure about dismantling and reassembling shipping containers... Those things are really heavy! They use cranes to pick them up empty and full they always use cranes to pick them up and put them on trucks or ships. Dismantling one would take quite a while to do but maybe it's feasible? One thing I know for sure is I'll be stashing loot inside the enterable ones and using them as shelters. No one would suspect a thing! =D -
I was thinking perhaps a visual cue would be better low poly fruit models floating in the apple tree might be a better solution so you can pick them individually rather than searching the tree. Same for the berry bush. BI has probably tried it internally already though maybe it worked and it's on it's way into DayZ or it didn't due performance being affected too much?

You're so lucky you made it to the pond! I have never encountered wolves yet except for hearing their barks (howls too?) I quickly scrambled up a tower when I heard that!

Help with altering breath graphic? Any way to change it?
LackLustreSurvivor replied to bloooop's topic in General Discussion
Breath particle effect will likely change just like the blood particle effects in the near future. It's already been confirmed by Peter in a status report many months ago. -

What do you mean sticks are OP? -
It's a known bug and has been fixed recently in the internal build.
-
Well... I did die today of starvation so it's not too easy for me. There are definitely a couple survival features still lacking but they will be in soon enough =)
-
We can boil water already, I've never tried it though. I know you must put water in a pot to boil/cook food. Whether you can drink that water is unknown to me.

is hypothermia still a death sentence?
LackLustreSurvivor replied to Red_Ensign's topic in General Discussion
Yes it can be if you don't set up a fire. Set up a fire asap. If you don't have matches use your stone knife to cut bark off a tree and sticks then merge them to make a firedrill kit. -
slow the rotation of the character at the sprint
LackLustreSurvivor replied to makz-01's topic in Suggestions
New player controller will definitely minimize the zig zag we currently can do. Players will probably have momentum therefore zig zagging would drastically slow you down therefore making you an easier target. As zig zagging in reality is not a very good tactic. It's better to run straight and fast to get away as soon as possible. -
Considering we have swamps already in the south of Chernarus with a few houses situated on platforms perhaps implementing a flooded village or city would be an interesting area for several reasons. It would encourage boat use on a surface of water that isn't the ocean. Those rowboats that are currently beached on the coast could be put to use obviously either modeling a whole new rowboat or reusing the static model that we have currently and coding it as a vehicle when boats are implemented could be the way to go. One survivor rows the boat while one other or multiple others protect it with their firearms at the ready (shooting from vehicle feature) while rowing into the town covered in mist. It would also be a great way to show off the physics system (DayZ doesn't seem to handle the physics that great at the moment but perhaps that will improve over time? The Source engine although now quite dated has an excellent water physics system where objects bob up and down and float randomly on the surface of water which looks fantastic. So items that should float would float randomly inside and outside of buildings items that should not float would remain at ground level where free diving would be required to retrieve them. The town or City wouldn't have to be entirely flooded just certain parts of it where the terrain is lower for example lower Berezino would be flooded whereas the section which is at a higher altitude wouldn't be (Using Berezino as an example not suggesting to flood that specific city). There would obviously have to be a credible reason why the town or city was flooded. A leaking or completely ruined dam in the near vicinity could be one reason. The flooding level could be anywhere to roof high, waist high or knee high which would vary depending on terrain since no town is completely flat well... actually some are on the coast. There is a map from ArmA 2 not sure whether it is a community created map or part of the Czech DLC which is a perfect example - An underground flooded area could also suffice like a subway, sewer, parking lot, basement etc. VBS2 has the technology for true underground structures so it is technically possible although whether the DayZ Development team want to get stuck into true underground structures this late into development is questionable -

How come DayZ doesn't have lootable containers. If I'm not mistaken lootable containers were shown back in the beginning of DayZ SA? But it was through UI. Is it possible for the following objects - Fridges, Stoves, Lockers, drawers, cabinets, cupboards and cardboard boxes to be lootable through animation? The same way we currently open doors and trunks/boots of wrecked vehicles ingame. I photoshopped a few screenshots to describe it clearer. http://i.imgur.com/7JY1QbC.png- accessible locker with a shotgun and a couple loose rounds inside (could have a lot more stuff inside like a torch, battery etc loads of junk that may or may not be useful to the scavenger. http://i.imgur.com/WWVMiwO.png http://i.imgur.com/nVc62dp.jpg http://i.imgur.com/fEOJklg.jpg http://i.imgur.com/G2gloF3.png http://i.imgur.com/ANU1SxU.png http://i.imgur.com/5zMAhOA.png The loot system in DayZ is almost identical to the mod's there hasn't been much improvement. When it comes to loot positioning. Yes we have some loot spawning on shelves (not nearly enough) We also have certain items spawning in interesting ways like the spade leaning against a shed. But that isn't enough at the moment we find loot spawning on the floor most of the time which can make sense but not when the shelves, cupboards etc are either inaccessible or have no loot at all. Another example with looting clothing - http://i.imgur.com/MMEB3b0.jpg (instead of clothing randomly spawning in the middle of a room on the floor). Realistic loot spawning tells a story in itself. For example as above the clothes in that cabinet are clothes left behind by someone who folded and hung their clothes neatly inside their cupboard and didn't have time or need to take it with them after the Infection started. Think about it. People would leave pretty much everything behind except for absolute essential items then get in their cars and leave as fast as possible. You could say looters looted all the homes and ransacked the place but still it shouldn't be the case for every house. It would be nice to see loot placed realistically. Kitchen cabinets could spawn kitchen/steak knives, can openers and other useful items for the scavenger. Fridges could spawn rotten fruit, cans of soda and beer and other beverages/food. Cupboards in bedrooms could spawn various types of clothing either folded inside, hung up on coat hangers or lying in a messy position inside? lockers could spawn anything from books to teddy bears (school lockers) and military lockers could have military gear. sidearms, rifles etc.

Bleeding to death and I couldn't open the medicine cabinet! (I thought I'd add in blood, icon and spray paint "Fuck This!!" for shits n' giggles) Loving DayZ!

Where are people from Chernarus?
LackLustreSurvivor replied to kevo1414's topic in General Discussion
I agree that there needs to be situations that you could find in certain areas that you could be left to interpret yourself. Like a quarantine zone where the military kept survivors safe after the outbreak but after years they fell apart as the residents rioted against the military due to food shortages and martial law. Or they were overrun by the infected. Same principle for small checkpoints where the CDF (Chernarussian Defence Force) would of tried to control certain strategic areas. Then you could find loot placed in a specific way that could explain that a survivor right after the outbreak had held up for awhile. And like you mentioned in your post some notes that they might of written etc. I already do that ingame I write notes in the perspective of a survivor. If I'll keep the note it will be about me. Or I write notes that a survivor would of written early on after the outbreak or that specific day/night that it started then I leave them in houses next to a bed usually with maybe a can of food or a weapon next to the bed with the note so if someone else comes across it they will think that a survivor held up in that room wrote that note and had his weapon at the side of his bed. -
Lol there is a day to night time cycle it's just on 24hrs obviously. They are going to speed it up. So a whole day ingame will be maybe 2 hours or more depending on how much they speed it up. So keep your "newspawn" torch. You're going to need it.
-
The devs are planning on speeding up the time ingame.
-
Don't judge a book by it's cover.
-
They will or may be ingame eventually but they won't be common and they shouldn't be. As DayZ isn't a military simulator. If DayZ's Infection outbreak follows ArmA 2's war in chernarus (Which would explain the wrecked tanks and armoured vehicles in certain parts of the map) The Chernarussian Army wouldn't have NVG's as standard equipment only their special forces would. NATO and Russians had operations in Chernarus that also explains the equipment we see from both countries ingame. Even then NVG's have to be extremely rare otherwise it will just be DayZ Special Forces... Where every tacticool survivor will be dressed as a special forces operator.

magnum=worst gun to use on zombies?
LackLustreSurvivor replied to BroskyBro's topic in General Discussion
I am using it rather successfully but I do have a lot of ammunition for it. I tend to scavenge stealthily now to try and not attract any infected. I'm loving it. -
Lootable containers & Realistic loot placement
LackLustreSurvivor replied to LackLustreSurvivor's topic in Suggestions
I wonder why lootable containers weren't implemented at the beginning. Would make sense to have loot spawn properly/realistically from the beginning would it not?
