[POLL] - 3PP / 1PP and seeing round corners
Monkfish (DayZ) replied to floj's topic in General Discussion
I'm sorry, what? Last time I checked, if I wanted to peer around a corner I had to poke my head out from behind it a bit because, you know, my eyes are in the middle of my head, not on the top of it, the side of it or on a stick 5ft behind it. Some of the posts made on this forum seriously make me wonder if people have actually been outside. -
Rolling Changelog: Stable Branch: 0.32.114557

Yay, updates! I'm sad we'll have to wait until the arse end of next week for them, but it's something to look forward to at least. -
[POLL] - 3PP / 1PP and seeing round corners

I'm growing tired of this shit. Seriously. -
I'd like to see a pistol/torch and pistol/knife combo, but two guns can bollocks.

potential TPV/3RD-person-hate-fix by *cough, cough*
Monkfish (DayZ) replied to sausagekingofchicago's topic in Suggestions
*sigh* Another thread on 3PP that doesn't address the problem with 3PP. The issue isn't shooting accuracy, it's seeing over/around things you can't from 1PP as Awruk said. There's a huge thread in the General section already, we do not need another one. -
What Awruk said. Plus, if games had to moderate their content based on whether some fuckwit would repeat that content out in the real world, games simply wouldn't exist.

Dyslecxi shows just how amazing 1PP only is in NEW video.
Monkfish (DayZ) replied to Sidewinder24's topic in Gallery
Throwing it away? Ha! The SA sold some 800k copies in the first few weeks and, I believe, is now North of a million copies. At $30/€23/£20 a pop, that's a lot of cheddar to have in a pocket. ;) -

Vehicle overhaul in DayZ compared to ArmA
Monkfish (DayZ) replied to BL1P's topic in General Discussion
You got any sources of information to back up your opinion that certain items won't make it into the game? Nah. Heli's should be in the game, just quite difficult to get working and very difficult to fly without sticking it into the dirt. -
I also don't like the way characters 'pop' into view when using 4th Wall so I'd prefer the fix to involve changes to the camera position and/or behaviour. My suggestion might look odd and confuse people whilst stationary as it'll behave differently to when the character is on the move (it might also be a total shit to code), but it at least still allows 3PP users to see their character, which is one thing that is mentioned quite a bit as a good thing. An alternative, as suggested by others, is to have the camera closer to the back of the player's head/looking over their shoulder. Whilst this is likely to be far easier to implement and may look better (in terms of actual movement), it prevents player's seeing their character. Perhaps both could be implemented with a menu option available to change camera behaviour? This way, people can select based on their preference rather than having to use/tolerate/hate whatever option is implemented. Obviously, this would be the harderst to implement as it would involve a lot more coding to get both options in, but it would certainly appease the largest proportion of players. It'd be nice if Rocket (or someone else from the Dev team) pitched up to add their thoughts to this thread...

[POLL] - 3PP / 1PP and seeing round corners
Monkfish (DayZ) replied to floj's topic in General Discussion
I voted "I play 3PP but think the exploit should be fixed.", but that's not entirely true. I play 1PP indoors and 3PP outdoors, especially in open areas, but I DO think the exploit should be fixed. Camera angles gets my vote (as in, my suggestion in the other thread to pivot the camera on its axis and not about the player's head) -
I have made no such assumptions. Furthermore, my suggestions do not force people to play either 1PP or 3PP. If someone hates 3PP with a passion, the solutions posited would have no affect on them. They could either choose to play on 1PP only servers, or choose to play on any server and only use 1PP with no disadvantage for doing so. And if someone hates 3PP that much and would rather not play the game at all than play it with fixed 3PP as an option then they are likely in a very small minority, which the devs simply won't cater for.

Vehicle overhaul in DayZ compared to ArmA
Monkfish (DayZ) replied to BL1P's topic in General Discussion
Clutch is a difficult one because a key press means it's on/off, and that's not how you use a clutch. A better way would be to have an automatic clutch (i.e. it's done for you) but require the player to change gear themselves. Trying to pull off in anything higher than 2nd (or 1st if the vehicle is on a hill) would result in a stall, forcing the driver to re-start the engine. The owner of a vehicle could use this to their advantage to prevent someone hopping in and quickly driving off by leaving it parked in 5th. Similarly, driving up hills or on rough terrain would require the use of a low gear and leaving it in a high gear would result in the vehicle slowing down and eventually stopping. For helicopters (I have no idea how they fly now, I've not played Arma II or DayZ Mod), pitch should be handled using the mouse movement, collective (rotor blade angle) should be done with two keys and the throttle should be automatic. To take off, once increases the collective which throttles the engines up, increasing the thrust from the rotors. Using this setup, a helicopter that is shot and receives engine damage has the possibility of being able to autorotate, providing there's enough control authority (controls could have been damaged depending on what was hit), and land relatively safely. Or crash, depending on the player skill. -
Wow, internet. Just... wow. I left this thread on page 19 and have just rejoined it on page 26. I'm not even sure how it's possible to add SEVEN FUCKING PAGES to a thread that's already covered every base, angle and argument possible, and yet here we are. I've skimmed over the posts in between and it's mostly the same old tripe, consisting of; - "3PP isn't broken! WAAAAAH!" - "3PP only gives you an advantage if no-one else uses it! Herp!" - "Just remove 3PP! Derp" - "Play on a different server!111internet" For the last time, I'll cover each of the points, in turn, so that everyone can understand shit. - "3PP isn't broken! WAAAAAH!" This simply isn't true. 3PP allows the user to see over and around objects they otherwise wouldn't be able to see over/around. This is a demonstrable fact and is entirely redundant of any opinion on the matter and is also irrespective of whether you use the exploit to your advantage or not. In short, stop repeating this as an argument against changing 3PP, because it isn't a valid one. - "3PP only gives you an advantage if no-one else uses it! Herp!" Wrong! 3PP allows anyone using it to see over/around something and this is entirely irrespective of whether other players around you are using 3PP themselves or not. - "Just remove 3PP! Derp" Not a solution. Completely removing 3PP would alienate a large portion of the player base. Besides, the 3PP exploit (and it is a fucking exploit; See the first point) can be fixed without resorting to drastic measures like removing it entirely. - "Play on a different server!111internet" Not a solution. What if I play 1PP and my friend plays 3PP? Are you honestly suggesting we don't play together because the solution to fixing the 3PP exploit is to split the community? Behave yourself. HAVE YOU ALL GOT THAT? Good. Let's move on. There are two viable solutions in this thread that remove the 3PP exploit without forcing any play style or perspective change on anyone. They are; "Fourth Wall" - Hide players/zombies outside of 1PP view even when using 3PP Change Camera Axis - Move the camera about the camera's axis rather than that of the player's head (Follow-up post 1 - Follow-up post 2) What would be far more constructive for this thread would be if people could decide which they would prefer. Or is that too difficult, Internet? EDIT: Fix borked links

How to know what is better? From this two
Monkfish (DayZ) replied to Desert89's topic in New Player Discussion
That makes exactly zero sense. To me, the vests should be identical in all but appearance. Which one you use should just be down to personal preference (i.e. one that suits your gear theme). -
what are these beans we can give to others for?
Monkfish (DayZ) replied to DADDY_OF_5's topic in New Player Discussion
Drinking beans? -
Thanks for the response, it's nice to know the devs do read the boards and will look at suggestions as some of them are very good and I think the game could benefit from them. I didn't think they'd be all that active with their posting though. After all, they do have a game to finish! :D
-
I've been wondering about this, actually. Do the devs frequent the forum and pay attention to the suggestions section (and if so, do they rank suggestions on the number of beans/replies), or do they only look at stuff the forum staff suggest to them?

We NEED some way to identify heros and bandits.
Monkfish (DayZ) replied to 1S1K-Airborne's topic in General Discussion
ORLY? You've not seen the one where Rocket gets ambushed during a live feed then? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DLnVNYmp8bk EDIT: Also, the suggestion? No. It's been suggested many times and the answer from most is always no. Firstly, it's near impossible to write code that would understand the context of any given scenario and act accordingly. Secondly, DayZ is all about the anonymity and not knowing if that person you've just seen is a friendly or a bandit. Thirdly, skinning a bandit would just result in regular players KoSing bandits. Whilst this is probably a fun thing to do, the upshot is that every server will turn into a deathmatch. Just, no. -
This. Also, don't forget that not all Bambis are innocent and helpless, some of them are respawned bandits that recently got offed. Chances are that Bambi you're trying to help is actually a bandit who's thinking "look at this guy with all this gear, imma punch him in the head and take it". Either help newspawns by killing bandits (be careful if you're doing this by sniping, someone coming across you might think you're sniping the newspawns) or help the ones that have the sense to move in land. Additionally, you could help by leaving helpful supplies in places near spawn points. As always though, be cautious of everyone.

Beans for an original idea that would actually be quite fun. :beans:

Class is defined by your individual actions, not an arbitrary condition imposed on the character by a given set of circumstances. Also, spawning with any equipment at all makes your [inevitable] death less of an issue and takes away from the "rock bottom" approach Rocket has employed. Starting with nothing more than the clothes on your back and a torch is entirely deliberate.

Why is the goal; servers able to support 150 players?
Monkfish (DayZ) replied to AlfalphaCat's topic in Suggestions
No you don't. Or at least, I have yet to experience that. See my previous post. Mind you, I always run off into the wilderness and avoid large towns, so I guess how many people you bump into is directly related to which parts of the map you frequent. If you're constantly fannying about in Cherno then it's no wonder you bump into lots of people, but if you, like me, run off into the sticks, the chances of actually seeing someone are pretty slim.
