    ammo for Magnum?

Yep, take the ammo out of the box first. You won't need a speedloader to load it, it'll just be quicker with one.

You're not, but I fear we're in the minority.

(vid) I'm a new player. I want to trust everyone

Don't trust anyone. That doesn't mean you have to just kill them on sight but, you know, be cautious. Your main failure there, other than not controlling the situation (you were the one with the gun!), was in looting the bodies with the other person stood nearby that had a weapon in their hands. Leaves you open to being attacked, as you found out. Welcome to DayZ!

Does rice/cereal reduce your water level atm?

Pretty sure Merino's videos state that dry rice/cereal reduces your water by 1000 units, so that would be pre-patch.

    Sandbox. Also, no.

Survivor in Berezino with Sack on his head?

I've been able to take stuff off a live person before, although they had previously handcuffed me so that might be a bug.

Survivor in Berezino with Sack on his head?

I encountered someone kneeling down and bleeding in a building the other day. I decided to help out and started bandaging them, at which point it told me I was bandaging "Unknown Entity". Figuring it was a bug (I've seen this a few times before), I just clobbered them with my axe and took the vest and clothes they were wearing. As for the burlap sack, I put one on myself earlier. Made no difference to me and I don't know if I was wearing it for anyone else as I was on a hardcore server so had no 3rd person.

I've just found one of those. I was most amused and a little perplexed. :D

    [Community Suggestion] Friendly UN Uniform

Heh. People shouldn't stereotype, but they exist for a reason and every encounter I have had with someone wearing a gas mask and milgear has resulted in my death. Therefore, gasmask + milgear = bandity cocksniffer. GIven the resource and opportunity, they will be shot on sight.

    [Community Suggestion] Friendly UN Uniform

I identify people by their actions, not the clothes they're wearing (although someone in a gasmask and full milgear will tend to be a bandity dicksniffer). If I end up shot then I've either made a poor judgement, was too slow to react to something or simply didn't see them. A blue beret ain't going to change shit apart from perhaps making the wearer even more of a bullet magnet than normal. Do not want.

zombie behaviour questions from a new player

    1. I was standing quite a long way outside of a town and a zombie started running towards me. Any ideas as to how far they can see? Is their ability to see you diminished by nighttime? Are they attracted to torch/lantern light? - I've read elsewhere on the forum that their sight good for about 300m, although I don't know how accurate this is. They certainly seem to be able to see you from a good distance away if they're facing you, so maybe it's correct. Don't know about night time or the torches though. 2. Will zombies notice the sound of a player walking/running close by? or is it just sight right now? - Pre patch, my experience was random when sneaking up behind them. Sometimes I could run up and they'd not flinch, other times they would hear me 10-15m away whilst crouched. Not had chance to test this post-patch. 3. My understanding is that if you have any weapon less than an axe, trying to kill a zombie will likely result in getting injured, is that correct? - Likely, yes. Fire axe is best (one hit kill) but a splitting axe will still down them. If you're weaponless, punch them in the head, it knocks them to the floor giving you some time to run away and out of sight. 4. When a zombie is knocked out on the ground, I see a little icon with a rifle appear, what's that about? - It's a looting icon. Likely a bug as zombies don't carry anything/can't be looted, although it might be a placeholder if zombie looting is a planned thing. 5. Is this statement correct? When running away from a zombie, they can't see through the walls of a house if you are outside.. ie they can't see through a house, but if you are inside the house they can see through the wall. - Behaviour was changed in the latest patch. They can now long longer run through walls and I've successfully lost zeds by running around/through buildings. I don't know if they can see you when you're in a building but my experiences thus far suggest not. 6. Does lying prone, crouching actually effect hiding from the sight of a zombie? - Not a clue. Try testing it as a new spawn when you have nothing to lose. 7. I'm bleeing from a zombie attack, I use rags to bandage myself. I'm still somehow hurt though as my character keeps making noises, and my sprinting ability is reduced. Will I die eventually from that even though I'm no longer bleeding? - Not currently, although the groaning indicates the player is in pain and their health is low, so you should probably sort that out otherwise your next encounter might knock you unconscious due to shock/kill you. Painkillers/morphine will stop the character making noise, but the only way to regenerate health is to have full blood and not be hungry/thirsty. See Merino's excellent guides on the health system stickied at the top of this section. Welcome to DayZ. Run safe.
  15. Funny, I had a painted Mosin with five rounds in it yesterday. It was already loaded when I painted it though, if that has any bearing on matters. Also, and oddly, it seems that a painted Mosin is considered a different weapon by the inventory/hotbar as it was greyed out in its original slot (2) and the painted version put into slot 3 after painting. MOAR TESTING!
  16. Aha! Thanks for the info, that is most excellent. :beans:

    I'm now killing on sight.

I don't kill unless I'm given damn good reason to. Anyway, not everyone is a dick. I met a friendly group of about five in Cherno the other night. It was most amusing, actually, because I overheard them in the building next door and one said "Check out my new glasses". I was going to stay where I was and let the pass but decided to see who was about anyway as they sounded friendly enough. I opened the door of the building I was in as they ran past in the street. One guy, wearing a combat vest, helmet and carrying an M4 no less, stopped and looked at me, then turned away and said "Ahh, there you are", and then turned away before asking thr rest of the group if I was with them. For the next minute or so, there seemed to be some confusion as to whether I was part of their group or not! He then asked me directly if I was part of their group, to which I replied "I could be". He then said "Ahh, another Brit! Hello!", to which I replied "Tally Ho!", or something else suitably British. They laughed and then he asked if I would like to be friends and not shoot each other, to which I agreed. We stuck together for a while, moving about the buildings and gathering loot, before taking sniper fire whilst making our way out of the town. I got tagged a few times by Mosin fire but didn't die. Then, whilst I was crawling to cover, someone ran past that I thought was the M4 guy but it turned out it wasn't and they shot me. Several lessons to be learnt there. Either way, he added me on Steam and I now have another person (possibly the rest of the group too) that I can hook up with should I need/desire to. Not killing anything that moves on sight can sometimes reap great rewards, and all of those times dying before it are worth it. Also, if you meet me around Chernarus, you're more than welcome to tag along.
  18. Note: Chambering a round is NOT the same as loading rounds into a magazine. Chambering puts a single round into the firing chamber, and this is independent of the rounds loaded into the magazine or even the magazine being attached to the weapon. With weapons that have separate magazines, it is possible to chamber a round and then insert a fully loaded magazine to increase the number of available bullets by one. So, using the FNX45 as an example, it should be possible to chamber a round and then insert a fully loaded mag', bringing the total bullet count inside the weapon to sixteen. I haven't tried this in game yet but I'm assuming it is possible given the game engine's origins. The only 'bug' I have found, which might not even be a bug at all, is being unable to load a Mosin after chambering a round, although I do not know enough about the Mosin to know if this is actually possible in the real world. If it is, then it should be possible to chamber a round and then load the magazine, bringing the total bullet count to six. EDIT: Confirmed as not a bug. See below.

    The DayZ Facts of Life

It's a well known fact that drinking can often suppress appetite. This is especially true of water and a glass or two of it will help if you struggle to make it between meals without harassing the fridge/goodies cupboard. Anyway, in game, hunger level is denoted by the levels in the energy 'meter'. Soda has some energy, so being just inside the hunger threshold and drinking soda will remove the hunger message, but only for a short time. And there we go, an otherwise pointless thread has been turned into something informative. You're welcome, Internet, you're welcome.
  22. Monkfish (DayZ)

What DayZ also needs to be even more realistic?

The reminders keep popping up all over the forum because people keep insisting on creating topics all over the forum bitching about the various and known bugs throughout the game like they shouldn't exist, whilst forgetting exactly what "early alpha" means and conveniently forgetting/ignoring all of the warnings to not buy the game if you're expecting a bug-free experience.

    'THERE'S SOMETHING I DON'T GET' Thread

Usually to get a better spawn, although people are weird and it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if some people buy a game with the sole purpose of not playing it properly and irritating the shit out of others. Just end them if you have a weapon, otherwise run away as they're not worth the hassle.

[Video] Stupid easy way to kill Zeds...

This. Blunt objects don't do much and the melee combat is so fickle at the moment it's not worth the risk trying to beat them down with a blunt object. Axe or GTFO. Punch in the head drops them to the floor and gives plenty of time to run away and get out of sight. Also, misleading video title much? Should have been "easy way to fight zombies without getting hit".

Dear developers, hear my plea. [priorities, not additions]

The thing that seems to escape a lot of people's thought process is the amount of time and effort required to implement things. Adding in something complex like a vehicle, with all of the mechanics to support it, or making a major update to the way servers behave, or fixing/introducing something else similarly complex takes many people many many hours of dev time to even get working in a basic way, then they have to test it to make sure that it is working and won't break everything else in the game by fucking up the balance or something. Adding some more coloured shoe/trouser variants? Relatively easily and can be done by, I imagine, a single modeler as they can quickly (relative to the rest of the items) add lots of new variations because all they're really doing is copying existing models and making some slight variations to a few values. And besides, they're a modeler and their priority is modeling. They get on with that while other members of the team get on with their own tasks, which might be something big and significant like vehicles or getting the core of the game working properly. This is why each patch will see a lot of small, seemingly insignificant, items added whilst larger things are relatively infrequent. It's not because the developers are all huddled around a single machine fapping over a new shoe model, it's simply a case of how much effort is required to add said items. Big updates need more time, small updates do not. It's simple, really, if you use some logic and common sense. Furthermore, it has barely been four weeks since the New Year started and we've already seen a handful of patches, the most recent one fixing a fairly major bug (zombies and wall clipping) as well as a decent smattering of new items to play with. In short; quit fuckin' whining. I sincerely hope we're not going to have one several of these threads bitching about what the devs are doing with their time every time there's a patch. Edit: Grammar
