Ahh, so Franchi is a library.

Well that escalated quickly. The KoS 'problem', if you subscribe to the idea that it is, will be fixed once the zombie count goes up and they get properly dangerous/infectious. Debating whether or not it's actually a problem or not is an exercise in futility because everyone has their own opinion (probably based largely on their own experiences) and no-one is right, so you can all fuck off about it. As for the OP's suggestion? Nyeh. I don't think it'll suit DayZ.

The most common 'cheat' used in DayZ...
Monkfish (DayZ) replied to Fabik's topic in General Discussion
And muting the always-transmitting mic is... exactly the same as using PTT . Always transmitting is a daft idea anyway. How many times has someone played a game online and some complete helmet isn't using PTT and is broadcasting everything that is going on around them, presumably because they live in a factory or inside a metal bin rolling down a flight of stairs. It's disruptive, annoying and, well, a little bit inconsiderate of others. There is no fix for VOIP and there never will be. The best we can hope for, as Orlok said, is an in-game system that's fun, easy and immersive, but even then people will still use VOIP simply because they can. That's quite the bold statement to make a mere 7 weeks or so into the alpha. You're welcome to your opinion, of course, regardless of how wrong it is, and I'll bet my left testicle that in a year, we'll have something that most certainly isn't <insert favourite shooter> in a different dress. -
Neutral Trading Zones - NPC enforcers if possible
Monkfish (DayZ) replied to jprime84's topic in Suggestions
Which is exactly how it should be. It's a sandbox game and anything created from it is done entirely by the player. No NPCs, no predetermined trade locations and absolutely no safe zones. Period. -
10 Tips: How Not To Get Shot As A Fresh Spawn
Monkfish (DayZ) replied to StayAlive (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
The above is excellent advice if you've already got some gear, but as a newspawn? Just get off the coast as fast as possible. A lot of bandits are shit shots (probably why they pick on defenceless Bambis) so you're better off standing up, raising your fists and legging it as fast as you can in land. If there are bandits in a spawn area, there's a good chance they will shoot you regardless of how you're moving if you're spotted, so you're better off moving as fast as possible. And besides, as a newspawn, you have literally nothing to lose so that's the best time to throw caution to the wind. One thing that you did miss, however, is to visit the nearest well and fill up on water before moving off to find some gear otherwise you probably won't make it to your destination. -
Likewise. It's a pain in the tits when it happens when you don't want it to, like pressing V instead of C when you want to stand up from a crouch (especially if you're anywhere vaguely open), but that's more a control/coding issue than the actual move being 'stupid', or whatever. It'd be nice if it only triggered from a crouch/standing position when you're next to a fence/wall that can be slow vaulted, but don't remove it.

Protip: If you've got an idea, it's probably already been suggested. Use the Search function to search for specific keywords to see if it has been posted before. If it has, bump an existing topic with your ideas if they're different from the ones posted (or you just want to show support for the idea). If you can't find any topics, knock yourself out starting one.

Suggestion: Server Option For Mic Always On
Monkfish (DayZ) replied to vvarpidgeon's topic in Suggestions
I have a dog that regularly barks and a Mrs that insists on talking to me (well, at me) when I have a headset on, neither of which I would want to broadcast into the ether. Besides, people in games who don't use PTT and constantly transmit the sounds of whatever is going on around them should be punched in the face until they stop. So no. -
The most common 'cheat' used in DayZ...
Monkfish (DayZ) replied to Fabik's topic in General Discussion
Spoiling is the word I'd use to describe it. Using VOIP spoils any immersion you'd get from using the in-game DC or radios (makes the latter entirely redundant too), which is a shame. However, there's the square root of fuck all that can be done to stop the use of VOIP and I'm pretty sure if DayZ had code that blocked VOIP, Bohemia would soon find themselves dragged before a judge. Game breaking? No. Game spoiling? Personal opinion, but I'd vote "yes". Can it be changed? No. What should people do about it? Suck it up and carry on. -
SUGGESTION: Wearing the United Nations Beret puts you into PVE-Only mode
Monkfish (DayZ) replied to Charcoal's topic in Suggestions
I like how the OP posted a stupidly ridiculous suggestion that goes against the core ethos of the game (you know, that it's harsh and unforgiving), gets lambasted for it by people with a modicum of sense about them, and then you call those people an asshat because of it. Oh, that makes it ok then. What about trolling someone by shooting them and then putting the beret on? OP didn't think that one through. -
Feature : End of Life report
Monkfish (DayZ) replied to andy_uk15@hotmail.com's topic in Suggestions
Nyeh. As King of Kong said, no player kill stats as that will just encourage people to rack up huge kill numbers and then wave their ePeen about the forums like they're something special. Zombie kills would be fine though. In other news, I'm pretty sure this has been suggested several times already. -
Taking Cuffs And Burlap A Little Further...
Monkfish (DayZ) replied to Mr Jizz's topic in Suggestions
This is already a thing. -
ZING! Forced PvE only is a daft concept given the nature of the game. If anything, the balance of gameplay will be swung back towards being more PvE once the zombies have been fixed (i.e. A lot of proper shit-scary, infectious bastards). Once they're fixed, thoughtlessly gunning someone down will probably result in several dozen pissed and hungry zombies making a beeline for the area. Only a fool would do such a thing without thinking. It won't eliminate PvP and never will, but I imagine it would certainly redress the balance a little.

This. It's a sandbox game and the players make of it what they choose. Nothing more, nothing less. Capture the flag. Honestly, I despair sometimes.

Just 2¢ from someone who has used these weapons in his day job
Monkfish (DayZ) replied to Robert Allison's topic in Suggestions
AK-74M is already confirmed as coming. I'm hoping it will entirely replace the M4A1, if only from an authenticity point of view, but at least then any wildly inaccurate shots could be easily explained away with iffy sights 'n' stuff and it might stop the gun buffs whining so much about it. :P It'd be nice if no two rifles fired the same way too, so you'd have to learn the quirks (i.e always shoots low and right) of the rifle you have found/borrowed/pried off that cooling corpse. It would add an element of randomness to each weapon so that people have to learn the quirks before being able to squeeze off accurate shots at range. I guess that would depend on whether each weapon would have a unique ID and therefore unique variables or not. -
SUGGESTION: Wearing the United Nations Beret puts you into PVE-Only mode
Monkfish (DayZ) replied to Charcoal's topic in Suggestions
Wow. Just... wow. I thought the cooking meth suggestion was daft, but a magical beret that stops bullets? Now I've heard it all. Ludicrous suggestion is ludicrous and wide open for all sorts of exploitation and fuckery. Absolutely not. If you want to wear the beret and pretend you're fighting the good fight, then carry on, just don't cry into your milk when you get shot in the face. Repeatedly. At range. And close up. With everything. *wanders off shaking head* -
Ymath, get out of my head. I was thinking about this very thing whilst eating dinner. I joined this board three weeks ago after getting the Alpha and the suggestions section had some 4-5 pages of posts. It's now on 36. My concern is simply that some excellent ideas have been posted and will have been pushed back several pages by shit and reposted ideas, where they may be missed by the devs. I'm pretty sure most sensible community members will join me in being quite pissed if some excellent ideas don't make it due to the devs not noticing the thread as its buried under eleventy "fix for <insert favourite reposted idea>" threads. How to choose which ideas get stickied would be fairly simple; base it on the number of beans given and/or positive response supporting the idea (this would include posts that are additional to the OP and expand on the idea further), with the community making suggestions for inclusion into the list. At least by having a list, it's a nice one-stop location for the devs to check out once in a while to see if something catches their eye without having to don their bullshit waders and take a stroll though what I imagine will shortly be 50 pages. G'wan.

I'm not sure why people find the "start at rock bottom with fuck all" aspect of the game so hard to grasp. You start the game with basically nothing and it's supposed to be an uphill struggle from there. It's intentional, deal with it. This already happens. You start only just above the "I need a drink" threshold and not much more above that for food. If you don't find a water pump and some food in short order, your life will be short.

And a lot of people post suggestions that are poorly thought out and/or massively game breaking/against the whole ethos of DayZ (which is a harsh and unforgiving place, not some holiday camp for Bambis (or anyone, for that matter) to have an easy ride). Maybe the 'naysayers' are people with a modicum of sense about them that can take a suggestion and consider all of its virtues and pitfalls, and then decide whether it should be included or not based on their deductions? Safezones? In DayZ? Fuck no. And that's not because I'm a bandit (quite the opposite, in fact), a troll or whatever other label you choose to append to me because I hold a differing opinion. It's because I can be rational, consider suggestions from all sides and weigh up how it would affect the gameplay/balance/whatever. DayZ + safezones = shit idea. So, again;

Uh-huh. And what about the seven pages of results when you search for server hopping in just the title of topics? The point is simply that you cannot have searched, or did it with your eyes closed, as there are literally hundreds of topics about the subject. And now there's one more, discussing a problem that has been thrashed to death already and is a planned fix for the Devs. Again in English please?
-
I think the brightness/illumination area should be nerfed in comparison to the regular handheld torch (or the handheld buffed to give a great spread), for the purposes of balancing. Headtorch would then mean you can still use weapons etc. but wouldn't be able to see as well as you would do using the hand torch. I agree with the ideas posed though, it is a bit odd that it's useless when looking down weapon sights and not being able to use it with a baseball/radar cap is just daft.
-
If that's the case then I suspect you couldn't find your own arse with both hands. Putting "server hopping" into the search brings back four pages of results. It has been discussed to death already.
