duct tape used to tape mouths and prevent voice chat
Monkfish (DayZ) replied to QCMBR's topic in Suggestions
Fixed for accuracy. -
It's like.... nobody's ever been outside on a bright, clear day. I mean, it's not like a ~1.4 million kilometre diameter ball of burning hydrogen and helium is bright or anything, and that looking directly at it doesn't totally fuck with the contrast of everything and make it damn near impossible to see anything in front of it, which is why it's always best to attack (from a military point of view) with the sun behind you. Oh... wait.

I agree with you wholeheartedly. I'm genuinely concerned that some excellent ideas will get swamped under the myriad of utter dogshit that far outnumbers them. And on that note, I would like to see (and have suggested elsewhere), of a list being compiled and stickied with the best ideas (as indicated by beans and/or # positive comments), primarily for the Devs to have a quick reference list of the ideas the community is getting behind, but also so that those ideas get greater exposure.

It's been covered before that Stickies just aren't read by most people. Furthermore, most repeated threads are from people with typically ~10 posts that have either signed up to have a proper waaah about things that are already well known/penciled in to be fixed, or to make a suggestion that's been posted eleventy times already. The only way this particular section will stay in any way resembling structured or controlled would be if the board mods/staff merge duplicate threads and lock bollocks ones. As a forum moderator myself on a busy forum, I can pretty much guarantee you that they have better things to be doing with their time (or simply cannot be arsed) to fanny about sorting this section out because other people are dumb and/or ignorant. I'd do it myself simply because it gets right up my tits, but I'm not a mod, so I cannot... EDIT: And as I post this, a sticky appears. Timing. :D

Blood on your clothes if you kill someone?
Monkfish (DayZ) replied to pacoarizasystem's topic in Suggestions
Blood spatter as a realism thing? Sure. After all, you are correct in that smashing someone in the head with an axe will produce a lot of blood and that'll get everywhere. As a bandit indicator? Not really. If I'd just been attacked and survived, but had been bleeding, would you label me a bandit for the blood on my clothes? If you knew the blood was mine, of course not, but you will never know whether it is mine or not without asking me. Which you can't do if you've blown my head off assuming I'm a bandit. TL;DR: I like the suggestion from a realism point of view, but that's it. -
Tense. So Tense. Probably the most tense video you've seen in DayZ

Extremely Non-Fun Game. But Fun, Strangely.
Monkfish (DayZ) replied to Cullis's topic in New Player Discussion
I believe so, although the display driver occasionally shits itself (resulting in a black screen but the game still running) so I should probably check that. Mind you, the system is ancient (AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ @ 2.3Ghz, 4GB DDR2 800Mhz RAM, Gainward 8600GT 1GB with Vista 32bit dragging it all down) so it's due a change. I'm tempted to put a new HDD in and bang Win7 64bit onto it to see if that helps, but there's only so much in the way of a damn good whipping you can give to a lame donkey. -
Extremely Non-Fun Game. But Fun, Strangely.
Monkfish (DayZ) replied to Cullis's topic in New Player Discussion
Yup! In my 67hrs of game time, I've killed one single person (who shot at me first) and died more times than I care to remember. Sometimes it's annoying, especially if a group of bandits catch up with you as a Bambi and hose you down for no reason, but that's DayZ and you just have to suck it up. What's pissing me off at the moment though is the utter dogshit system I have and the way it runs DayZ. Or doesn't, really. The graphics are all but off to get a playable framerate out of it and it crashes often enough that I've put it down for the time being, simply because it gets up my tits so much. I was being plagued by Windows DEP (Data Execution Prevention) killing it randomly, so I switched that off and it still crashes. Buh. I'll pick it up again after the next update/when I've got a better machine. Until then, I'm avoiding for a bit. -
Neither do I. Berezino is less than a 10min run from Solnichniy, so I'm not sure how the OP takes 30mins to get anywhere unless they play using Braille.

Or you get hopelessly lost trying to find NEAF from Rify if you don't know where you're going. -
Not sure on the suggested execution of it, but the concept gets my support.

SS;DR (same shit, didn't read)

It sounds to me like you need to put DayZ down for a year and come back when it has more features.
-
There is no problem with the game mechanics. None whatsoever. DayZ is harsh and unforgiving. KoS will reduce naturally as zombies get deadlier (and they will), and as the game gets generally harder, but you will never entirely stop KoS and if you do not like being shot by people, play differently or not at all. This. Forced PvE is insanely stupid. The only possibility for it, aside a nice cuddly place for carebears to hide, is exploitation (log onto PvE server, gather all good loot without fear of catching a bullet, log out and back into PvP server to shoot people. Rinse, repeat, ad infinitum). Unless, of course, you'd want separate hives for PvE and then I refer you to Dallas' point.

Knock Out / Hurt From Running Into A Tree

Falling over generally is. -
I think you're playing the wrong game. Also, see the other threads regarding forced PvE and see how they went. (I'll give you a hint: It wasn't well).

I like it, and the general idea of falling/tripping over stuff randomly. Not sure if VR would support it though. -
Ghosting/server Hopping, Combat Logging/bandit System, And Also Zombie Difficulty
Monkfish (DayZ) replied to cels's topic in Suggestions
Dude, there are literally hundreds of posts about combat logging/ghosting. bandits and KoS. You've brought nothing new to the table that hasn't already been suggested and shot down. But to cover each point... Server hopping - Devs are aware of the problem and will be fixing it. Combat logging - See above Zombie difficulty - On the devs radar and will be fixed in time. Zombies have already had improvements made in the latest patch and there are plenty more to come Bandit system - Impossible to implement. There is no way they can write code that will understand the context of every situation and label someone accordingly. TD;DR: See the other topics. Also, noooooooooooope. -
It's the best way to do immersive stories in my opinion. Rather than just give the player some text to read or a video to watch, let them find clues (and not scripted ones either) about what happened and let the player deduce it for themselves. Hopefully the stuff with the radios and Green Mountain is some underlying story that the devs have added in secretly (and if it is, I hope some code junkie doesn't blow the lid off it by scouring the game code rather than, you know, playing the game and making the discoveries legitimately).

If I Spawn In Solnichniy One More Time I'll Puke.
Monkfish (DayZ) replied to [email protected]'s topic in General Discussion
"As we all know, people are drawn to the coast because there is nice loot and heavy player interaction" Nice loot? At the coast? BWAHAHAHA! My good Sir, I fear you have not actually been playing DayZ. The coast is shit for loot; there's not much in the way of high value stuff and what is there gets picked clean pretty damn quick. If you want some decent stuff, you need to travel. Mind you, if the trip from Solnichniy to Berezino is a bit too strenuous for you (it's less than ten minutes of sprinting) then there's probably not much chance of you getting to anywhere decent without feeling the need to piss and moan on the forums about it. ;) -
Ahh, so Franchi is a library.
