    So many damn veteran servers!?!?

I don't think you HAVE to have 3P, especially if you're using headphones. For me, though, I simply prefer a 3rd person view. I like having peripheral vision and, since I don't use TrackIR, 3P allows me to do this. I can cover a wider angle of view quicker which I believe is a more accurate model of eye movement. The downside is that it allows people to look around walls or above cover.

    Where's the communication?

I've spent the last day using aggressive friendliness and have met a total of 1 friendly player named DunknDonuts. In this case, I heard him before he heard me and typed out that I was talking on direct comm, had located him, and asked if he wanted to play some coop. He said he did and I took him for his word; the past few days I just trust everyone and don't care if I die. We had great fun (or at least I did). He was the ONLY one :( The rest just don't know what they're missing.
  3. Oddly enough, I seem to remember Rocket saying he'd like to implement dogs. Fairies grant wishes?

    Tricked

    Chav-nasty laugh is not 100%; it's 110%.

    The day electro exploded

Work smarter, not harder. Fighting fair is for the imminently deceased.
  6. Actually, I think his idea is a GREAT one although I don't agree at all with his insults. It fits perfectly with an apocalypse setting; vigilante lawmen! Hell, sounds like a movie and is basically the premise for the Brotherhood of Steel. Get your PvP fix AND be good Samaritans at the same time. Frontier justice, baby! Post-Apocalypse Paladins, hah.

    Rules to Survive By

Going to class up the joint with some historical guidelines from the master Oswold Boelcke: 1. Try to secure advantages before attacking. If possible, keep the sun behind you. 2. Always carry through an attack when you have started it. 3. Fire only at close range, and only when your opponent is properly in your sights. 4. Always keep your eye on your opponent, and never let yourself be deceived by ruses. 5. In any form of attack, it is essential to assail your opponent from behind. 6. If your opponent dives on you, do not try to evade his onslaught, but fly to meet it. 7. When over the enemy's lines, never forget your own line of retreat. 8. For the Staffel: Attack on principle in groups of four or six. When the fight breaks up into a series of single combats, take care that several do not go for one opponent.

Need primary weapon to stay quiet? (Prone_

I noticed this as well. Wish we could slow crawl when we don't have a weapon. However, earlier in the day, I was able to "zoom" in a weapon without having a weapon. Trying a single right click and see if that slows you down. Might work; might not.
  9. After 3 days of "screw it, I'm going friendly", I was finally able to have my first successful coop experience in DayZ. Heard some guy nom'n' on something in Elektro office building and called out that I only had an axe and wanted to coop. He was cool with it and we just kind of ran around the city doing random stuff. Found this guy Aiden passed out on the ground; bandaged him up and he crawled off into the sunset without saying a word. Later, we saved some guy from a Z-train at the Elektro office building. Right after that, I guess I was sniped because I just instantly died and I never heard a gun or anything. Anyway, I just wanted to say that doing some coop was 100 times funner than going solo. We aggro'd zombies like four times as often as I do solo, and killed alot more, but it was totally worth it. I don't care that I was sniped and lost all my gear (killed almost 30 zombies with hatchet only), I just had a blast after finally being allowed to play with another human being. I will continue pushing my dogma of aggressive kindness in the hopes of having more opportunities to do this again.
  10. Best starting gear: 1 - Knife (melee weapon, doesn't exist, can also gut small game) 2 - Watch 3 - lighter/matches /end list Maybe throw in a bandage but even that's iffy considering their high drop rate. The morphine situation is kind of grim; would be nice if there could be some abandoned red cross vans or something to get medical supplies.

    Weird lighting

I don't use crossfire... glad you found a fix, though!

    Weird lighting

Ah, sounds like there's no fix :( It really messes with my brain.
  13. I miss side chat. Unlike other games, it wasn't full of inane drivel but instead comedy gold. I also feel more attached to the world when I can hear what's happening to other people. It makes the game more fun.

    zombie aggro

I've had quite a few zombies spot me through walls :( The sound level icon seems to be lower for a given movement but the zombies aggro range seems about the same to me.
  15. I find that when I'm sneaking around it's hard to hear the zombies over the sound of my own movement. I believe the zombie sounds and the movement sounds are both categorized as the same thing, is that correct? I'm looking for a way to separate those sounds so that I can hear zombies better. Tips?

    No servers?

Just got back from a long trip abroad and installed the latest patch (1.7.1.2) and when I load the beta client I do not see any servers. What's up with that? :( Do I need to revert to 1.7.1.1 to see them? I tried using the Six Updater to sync the server list with Gamespy and still got an empty server list. Any ideas?

    No servers?

Still nothing. Are there any specific ports that are required to be forwarded or anything? I was connecting fine with PPPoE in China, over a VPN, but now that I've come back to the U.S. I haven't seen a single server on my server list (currently using DSL). I can't think of why this is happening. I figured it out. After going through all of the firewall, filtering, etc. on my router I checked my startup items and noticed that my VPN was still set to run at startup. For whatever reason, running a VPN from within the USA wouldn't load the server list. Turned it off and servers are back. <-- idiot

    Can't download 1.7.1.3

Try using the Six Updater. It worked for me, at least.

    No servers?

Reverting to 1.7.1.1 didn't change anything. My internet is working fine, not sure what the issue is. I'm also unable to download the latest beta client (nor can I download the 701 one); the webpage loads just fine but when I click the ftp link it times out, every time. Don't know if they're related issues. Nothing I do seems to fix this at all :( I've updated to 1.7.1.3, got the latest beta build, and still my server list is empty. Even when I use Six Updater, the server list is empty after I resync with Gamespy. Please help, I need to login so I can die! hah
  20. With the recent banwave that went out, I'm sure most hackers have been banned. However, can people still do it if they've never done it before and been caught? I'm just curious if the loopholes that allowed them to do what they do have been closed or not. I was making my way through Stary today, nice clear day, and then suddenly I'm prone and it's dark/raining. I see something about "Bitterness is ......" (didn't read it all) and suddenly I'm falling from the sky. I hit the ground and die. I tried to respawn but when it went to fetch the server info it was stuck at 0kb of 0kb. I'm assuming this was a hacker and not a bug. I'd like to think that these security holes have been closed but if the hackers are still able to kill everyone on the server I can't help but feel a little disappointed :( Update: logged on another server and I'm still alive with all my stuff, apparently I wasn't synced when the hacker did what he did. Still got my stuff, lucky me, haha.

    Hackers still hacking?

Yah, I always expect cheating. I've never seen anything like this, though, where they can seemingly control the server. This goes way beyond stuff like "looking through walls". One would think such control over the server should be easier to block than, say, a wall hack or the like.
  22. I'm a new player. My first guy died in 3 minutes because I didn't know how to use a bandage. The second guy died in the first town he visited; didn't have much, some beans and an alice pack I found in a rail station. This guy I'm playing now, though, I've been playing him for a couple days. Started in Elektro, navigated my way through the towns of Pusta, hit a church near Kumyrna, skipped Guglovo to hit some high value targets to the west, then through Novy Sobor last night. I did most of this on my belly, at night, and it took me days. Today, I was running through Stary Sobor picking up what updated items I could find. I managed to find a silenced M9 pistol and thought I was the luckiest guy in the world. The next tent, I found an old AK with 2 mags and thought, "Surely, I cannot be any luckier than this." Then, after about a minute and 2 tents later, I hear brush moving. I look to my left and see a guy in a gillie suit creeping around. He's about to be at my position and I know that bandits are supposed to look different and he's the first guy I see in a sniper suit so I'm thinking, "Great, I'm about to get killed by a bandit it, just when I got an AK!" I can't see any way to hide without making noise so I have to figure out what to do. Do I be still and hope he doesn't see me, should I ask if he's friendly (and take his word on it), or should I use my surprise advantage and take him down before giving him a chance to take all my hard won stuff? I chose the latter. So, I setup shop in between tents and waited for him to come sneaking around. With all the hard-won gear I've managed to get, my heart was pounding, HARD. I figured if I was going to go out, I'd go out in a blaze a glory, considering that firing the AK so close to town would draw them to my location. When he stuck his military looking head from around the tent, gun up, I put about 6 rounds into the side of his body (I flanked him) and he went down. Surprisingly, I didn't hear a single zombie alarmed (will find out why later). Anyway, I come up to this guy and he's still breathing and I can't loot while he's alive so I take my silenced pistol and put 2 in his brain. Now I can loot, great. Turns out, this guy must have been playing a very VERY long time. He not only had a great pistol but a SILENCED MP5. That's insanely hard to get. 11 blood bags, tons of food, meat, the whole nine yards, and a Czech backpack which is HUGE. This poor guy... turns out he wasn't a bandit because my murder count went up one. It was an honest enough mistake for me, I have no idea what bandit skins look like but I know that once you go past a certain number of kills you'll have a "bandit skin", apparently, so I thought he was a bandit. He was just in the wrong place at the wrong time and got nailed. I think the reason I didn't alarm any zombies is because he probably killed them all with his silenced weapons! I feel really, REALLY horrible for what happened to that guy. Really, I just don't know how long he'd been playing but he had tons of hard to find gear. He must be so, so very angry and I really feel horrible (in real life). On the other hand, I feel elated at all of the cool gear I just got. At this point in the game, I could just hike out into the middle of the biggest forest I can find and kill animals for food and use ponds for water. Not much of a game at that point, though... now that I have everything I need and cool military gear, what do I do now? Going through towns and braving zombies is un-needed because I have everything I need. Anyway, it's been a very, VERY long time since I've felt this sort of adrenaline rush in a game. If I had to pick, I'd say I haven't felt anything like this since trying to hope stacks of gold to the bank in UO (Siege Perilous) and seeing someone along the way (they take everything if they kill you, and anyone can kill you). I've also never felt bad about killing another player before this. This game can bring some intense emotions, I like it. Now I just need to figure out what to do next because I believe I can survive indefinitely in the woods but that's not very fun...
  23. Game purchase only; most of us already play an MMO (or two, or three, etc) and don't need another mouth to feed every month. Paying for items is BS. Just let me buy it and happily play it until the end of days. Studio developed; use this alpha to get community feedback. Kickstarter would be good with all the word-of-mouth publicity the game's gotten recently. If you can fund the game that way it will definitely give you more freedom. A publisher is going to want CoD with zombies.
  24. Ah, no bandit skin? Poor guy. I was too dumb to know better, "looks different = bandit" haha. Oh well. Hmm, yah, it's only 16 slots but when I got it it doubled my storage so I was pretty pumped to get it. As I mentioned, I had an alice pack that I got in like the first 10 minutes of my second life. If only I'd have lived... I'd love to play with you guys although in a day I'm leaving China for a couple months in the US (miss home). Usually, I can only play when everyone is asleep. You've used "mate" more than once; perchance you're an Aussie? That would be ideal for today but we'd be different time zones in a couple days :( Haven't played in the past couple of days due to all of the hacking going 'round but I suppose that's all cleared up now.
