Been saving the life of a lot of dead people..
knifeparty replied to broguenz's topic in General Discussion
Funny thing is, I can bandage them and they stop bleeding... and I can loot them.. I've gone into some of their inventory and done things like put batteries in their flashlight, give them bandages, etc... -

I don't know why we haven't been allowed to turn into panthers yet. Game is broken and unplayable until Panther transforms are added. OMGENDOFTHEWORLD!!!! -

I keep finding people unresponsive and bleeding. I try talking to them but no response.. Then when I go to bandage it says "I am bandaging unknown entity" or something like that... happened to me about three times since update.. -
I too, seem to have found many boxes of .357. I found three last night and another two today... Guess we're all supposed to get all Rick Grimes on these zombies assess.

Me and my buddy were just talking about this... play all day in run-n-gun type games killing endless other players and it's just another day and I don't really talk about it all that much with my bro's, but the one intense interaction like I had described earlier and my entire group will be talking about it all weekend. If there weren't gun toting maniacs in the game, It would ruin half of what surviving in this survival game means to me.

I argue that removing kill on site would ruin the feeling I get when running into another player. I mean, last night my and my buddy get held up by a guy, he tells us to get on the ground. He starts going on about how he will be friendly as long as we comply. little does he know our other friend is in the house next to us. As he's preaching to us my buddy walks up behind him and puts a bullet in his head. In the guys defense he didn't know what to expect coming up on us. In our defense he was pointing a gun at my friend and barking commands trying to claim he was friendly.. well, we don't take kindly to that in my town.. I'm sure everyone's adrenalin was jacked up, and without the fear of conflict, well, that scenario would have been pretty lame... All in all, we were just waiting for another friend to show up. He felt a need to interject and paid the price. I don't go looking for blood, but those moments keep the tension higher in the game. I am friendly. I don't kill on site, and I try to help people wherever possible. I would hate for them to make KoS more difficult. It would ruin it for me. as an added note: This guys inventory was 60% m4 magazines and ammo. This dude was ready to storm normandy. My kit consists of water bottles, can openers and food to pass out... I don't feel bad for a second that we off'd him. life goes on and KoS is a necessity sometimes.

Character resets getting out of hand.

It has been noted in the forums that some servers were having connection issues with the hive. The above advice about logging out and trying a different server is solid advice and has worked for me multiple times in the past two days. I would suggest logging out and taking a break for a couple days if you can't handle it, but since we are in such an early stage of development I would rather give warning that this type of stuff is bound to happen sporadically throughout the development process for reasons none of us could possibly fathom. We will have times of regular updates that I'm sure won't interfere with the base gameplay, but rest assured there will be ones that will be frustrating and take time to clear up. I'm sure they have people working on this non-stop. Not everybody can work on the same problem. That is why we are also fortunate enough to get extra goodies like new weapons and walky-talkies and the like. Frequent and frustrating wipes will occur... you don't have to like it, but you will be dealing with it, I assure you. pro tip: follow some of the developers on twiiter.. you get nice little tid-bits a lot faster than you would on the forums and help us understand some of the more frustrating aspects of this alpha phase. Cheers! -
Yeah, there has been some really weird inventory things going on. I spray painted a mp buttstock on my M4 and it disappeared.. I sat around for approximately 10-15 minutes, and it never appeared.. I said forget it and logged out. The next day when I logged back in it was sitting in my inventory like nothing ever happened. I had also spray painted an entire pristine tricked out mosin + LR scope.... entire thing disappeared. I sat around about the same amount of time and it never showed. That one kinda got to me.. only thing that made it alright was that I was sitting right next to a shotgun and figured it was time to try that out. I know it's unrelated but figured I toss that one out there.

This happened to my buddy last night... He stated "the loot on this body is being duplicated". I tried to take a saline bag off of the body and replicate the bug, but could not. For some reason it was only affecting him. Also of note, the rifle he had picked up off of our fallen comrade ended up disappearing from my friends inventory and he had to re-loot it from our fallen comrade. A food item that he had taken off of the body appeared to be "infinite" as he would eat from it, and the percentage would not go down from 100%. I couldn't get that to work either on my character either.

Yes, obviously. It's only intended to be used to describe the process, which the OP did not understand. As noted by my initial sentence in my post stating that it does a good job of describing the process. The general basis of the changes in the new patch have already been addressed in previous posts (see Merino's post). It doesn't change how the process works, which is again, what I refer to. Edit: Holy crap dude, I just went back to look at this post again and realized that I even state that the information in the video is outdated from the changes to stomach capacity balancing... You my friend get the burlap sack award.

The lack off loot is not right ???

Haven't had an issue myself.. yes I noticed way too much spray paint. -
There was a while where the hives were down, or up and down sporadically last night, which I'm sure had some to do with it. I hadn't checked today, but there are a lot of discussions out there about some way to set up private hives which also might have a role in your issue.. I wish I had a better answer for you but most of what I am basing this off of, are google searches, these forums, as well as the twitter pages of much of the development team. Nobody definitively covers everything.. much is speculation. edit: that is assuming (as mentioned above) you are not simply changing from hardcore/regular/experimental.. they all have different hives as far as I know.. (i.e. you have a different profile on each one).

obviously not this simple, but something akin to this? I'm not sure anything more restrictive is anything close to realistic and am not sure that really blocks out all that much... I kind of like the idea for immersion, but don't see it affecting too much.

I thought they had the option in the server files to choose a time offset? If not, I'd be surprised if they didn't implement one. I would be frustrated always playing at night. It gets boring looking at the world in gamma adjusted grayscale. I almost wish that the day/night cycle was sped up a little.. maybe 6h/6h, that way I could experience both frequently. I really want to find a regular server and stay. I have narrowed it down to a few, but with frequent updates and or issues, I'm always having to change here and there. I have noticed that a lot of the high pop servers are typically day time, as that is where the crowds go.

I linked an actual video in my post.. That is about as definitive as it gets. I have looked into it a lot, and I don't think there is any better info out there.

Watch this dudes (Merino) youtube videos on dayz. He does a great job of explaining the health system. I actually really like it.. It's so simple on the surface, but pretty complex underneath... http://www.youtube.com/channel/UC9YSGX22B6Z3k9-hJzJcz4w (Merino's channel) (specifically on food and water consumption) also of note: just because you are full, doesn't mean you have the maximum amount of water or food. Once both of those are satiated, and you are above a certain level of blood (can't recall atm), you will observe the healthy status. Think of it not so much as food and water, but being properly hydrated and having a proper amount of energy/calories. When we spawn in we are in pretty rough shape and it takes a while to fulfill that. Our stomachs have a limit on what we can take in so people see the "i'm stuffed..etc." notification and they think they are good.. That is not the case. Some of Merino's data might be out of date, since they "balanced stomach capacity". I am pretty sure they made the capacity smaller from my experience so far, so this "problem" you speak of may seem even worse... However, I like it and it makes sense to me.. all in all this is still a game, and if they made things like how far you could live on a can of beans or canteen of water, I think it would detract from the game.

HAHA... I saw that totallylookslike.com pic in an unrelated google image search and it brought me here.. I was like "I'm not the only one! How did I miss this thread!" I was just ranting about this to my buddy a week ago!

A lot of street lights nowadays store energy via solar power during the day.. I'm not saying this is the case, but it works for me. here's a link to some pretty modern ones, but it's been around for a while. (note: gizmodo has a tendancy to have popup ads) http://gizmodo.com/self-contained-solar-powered-streetlights-stay-complete-1446549431

Being a new spawn player on a populated server is pointless right now.

I logged into a server last night as a new spawn. Plenty of people (38/40). I ran into about five other new spawns, made a joke to a couple that were punching a zombie on the road (saying "hey, quit hitting my girlfriend"). Chatted with another fellow on the way to Berezino.. Went only for a specific building i like, along with the hospital, and grocery store.. some were looted, a few weren't.. found a myriad of items I needed, sadly no can opener, or decent shirt. There weren't a lot of zombies out there.. not that they had been killed, only that the number I think is adequate hasn't been implemented yet. I found some first aid supplies and am now ready to head back to the coast and start interacting with folks... Didn't really feel it was tedious at any point.. And I know that things will get better. There is only so much to keep one occupied and I certainly can understand getting bored.. I think all there is to it, is that we need to give the game some time to develop. I think "an evening to throw away to find a can of food after traveling a few kilometers" is a bit exaggerating. Even in the worst cases, I have never been that hard up for resources. Maybe I'm just lucky, so I can't exactly discredit it. I will agree that the day they implement respawns will be a happy day. -
Is this how it is for new players? Or is it just me?
knifeparty replied to killa_justin's topic in New Player Discussion
That sounds about right. Don't count out all new spawns right away. not all are jerks. The issue with zombies not pathing correctly is an issue, but that hasn't really changed since the mod. They have always managed to find a way in through closed doors, however in the standalone, they'll walk through just about anything. Night time is a little unrealistically dark. I do hope they lighten it up a little bit. A person should be able to at least travel without the need of a flashlight. You can change your gamma settings to make it much easier, but it kind of ruins things for me, but again.. nothing that wasn't an issue in the mod. As far as loot goes, finding loot on the coast will always be challenging. You are competing with all of the other people who spawn in new, and since the loot currently doesn't respawn, nothing new appears until a server reset. Moving inland helps to gain loot. Even with all these difficulties with the game in it's current state, I still find myself very successful. My suggestion is this. Go to dayzdb.com look at the chernarus plus map and make note of the water pumps (noted by a water drop and spigot). Also, note all of the medical spawn locations. right now, all of the red pluses on that map are the pub-style buildings. They are great sources for backpacks, medical supplies, and fireaxes, which are a zombie necessity (go for fireaxe instead of splitting axe, they do more damage), . Then get familiar with the environment. You'll be a pro before you know it, and hopefully some of the more glaring issues will get worked out in good time. Good luck.. yes it is still alpha. Things will be addressed in time I'm sure, but no reason we can't still help the guy out.
