PLEASE HELP! STUCK IN WATER WITH "YOU ARE DEAD" SCREEN AND NO RESPAWN OPTION
knifeparty replied to tcoan98's topic in Troubleshooting
I had a similar issue yesterday, I tried three different servers, all netting me similar issues. Sometimes it would tell me I was dead, sometimes it would give me the respawn timer yet do nothing when it reached zero. Then, on my fourth server, I just respawned like nothing was ever wrong. Sorry I can't give you any definitive answer, but I hope that helps. -
Server Hopping and why the current doesn't work
knifeparty replied to wafflemelon's topic in Suggestions
Your wrong. When they "log out immediately" as you say, even though they aren't playing the game any longer, their character stays on the server for 30 seconds. They can no longer just "poof", log out and disappear. Therefor if they tried to ambush, loot and log out... they would now just sit there for 30 seconds without any control or view over their character, thereby making it a very poor choice to make in a combat situation. I don't believe you have a firm grasp on how things are currently working.. I hope my explanation helps. They have also had some issues with their database and some critical bugs, to which they have been hotfixing. I would give it a few hours and try again. -
What is your most anticipated feature that is coming in?
knifeparty replied to Miquinei's topic in General Discussion
I most anticipate in order from most to less anticipated - zombie fixes (increase numbers, difficulty, respawns and general bugginess) - loot respawns - server persistance (tents) - richer status effects - hunting I could actually go either way on the last two... -
Can't wait to go on hunting trips up north!

Winter is coming. -
U.S. Marines regularly shoot out to 500yds at the rifle range with consistent, repeatable accuracy with iron sights. That's about 457m. More than that with iron sights is difficult because the front site post will literally completely cover a man sized target. A red dot is typically about the same size and therefore equally difficult. With better optics and a proper zero, it can reach a little farther. It is said that the m16/m4 range is approximately 500m (547yd) for a point target and 600m (656yd) for an area target. People will debate specifics on this to no end, I'm sure, but that is a good rule of thumb for real characteristics. edit: good shot btw.

it would be neat to use them as parts of traps. I am not sure how it would be implemented as a melee weapon. Would they be thrown? would you stick something with them and lose the spear by impaling them? or could you repeatedly "stab" them with it?

I guess it's time (for you) to go on a base jumping spree until it gets patched! I have yet to test this build. Can anyone confirm this, or is this a troll post?

It was reported that they put in a pbo check now to prevent the deletion of critical files such as the ones you speak of.. That was almost a month ago. They also stated that they are working on the missing file error. It's supposed to be fixed this patch. Seems like a trivial thing to complain about in such flamboyant fashion, since it's obviously not a feature and is even now been addressed and fixed. As for the log out feature, well, it's debatable at best. I am not a huge fan, but I can see how it benefits us. I could go either way on it's exact implementation, but don't think it's the end of the world as so many seem to think. I just don't understand why everybody can't act like an adult about it, discuss the pro's and con's while contributing to potential solutions, instead of being over dramatic and rude. Things don't get fixed as simply or as quickly as some may like, or in the exact manner everyone can agree on. That's life. It's certainly not the end of the world.

To those who dislike the new combat logging timer
knifeparty replied to africanhungergames's topic in General Discussion
I'm glad they implemented this, even in its current state. I would prefer to not have to give up control of my character. I don't like that I can logout, thinking I was safe, then coming back to a dead character later. I would at least like to be able to react to something. I can see their reasoning for doing it this way though. They don't want somebody to get behind cover, then wait to logout, all the while being able to react to being "in combat". I still think a live timer would be better in my opinion. At least a live timer will fix some of the problem, while not punishing those who don't abuse logging out. They need to test this stuff out though, so no harm no foul. I don't think it will stay the way it is. My feelings won't be hurt if this method stayed though. It's certainly better than nothing, and absolutely fixes combat logging. I guess you have to give a little to get results sometimes. -
Interesting. I thing your over exaggerating a little. Not all of us "whining" about this are combat loggers. Some of us are, despite how the OP is coming off, trying to participate in an adult conversation about this. Sure, logging out as it's currently implemented will work most of the time. I see the other side of the argument, that there are plenty of places one can go, to practically ensure a 100% safe logout. I still don't think such a guarantee exists, no matter how safe you think you are. I don't like the idea of relinquishing control of my character for 30 seconds without being able to react to threats. The first time I log out and come back to a dead player, where I wasn't able to at least react to whatever killed me, I'd be disappointed. Increasingly so the more it occurred. I just want a fair chance to react if I happen to attempt a logout in an area I thought was perfectly safe, but was in fact not. With that being said, I understand this is alpha. They need to test things out, and see how people like them. I for one, am not overly fond of it. I don't think this particular feature will last as it's currently implemented, but something like it surely needs to be. If it stayed this way, my feelings wouldn't be hurt too much, and I'd move on without another thought towards it.

They also are addressing the pathing for zombies as well... might not be an end all solution, but they are in fact working on it... FYI

I agree that the countdown should occur while you are still in game. I don't think there is truly a "safe" place to log out of, where I would feel comfortable leaving my character for 30 seconds unattended. I can see what their possible reasoning would be for implementing it in this way. A combat logger could just post up in a "safe enough" location during a combat situation, hit logout and hope he reaches the timer, all the while, 100% ready to pull the trigger, react to combatants. However, I don't think that exact situation would occur enough to warrant the penalty it exacts on people just wanted to leave game normally. I think the live countdown to be able to abort is a better (but maybe not best) solution. Even though I generally agree with the consensus here, I think the OP sounds a little too over dramatic. This comes off as akin to the generic "OMG GAME IS BROKEN" posts.

My two first deaths, Typical or neigh?
knifeparty replied to ZombSage's topic in New Player Discussion
I'd say those odds seem about right. I seem to have about a 1 out of 4 chance upon encounter with a person, that they will be hostile to me, unless I have some obvious tactical advantage over them (and even then it may not matter). I seem to have better luck then that on the coast, but there are people out there who go out looking to gear up then just kill random people, unarmed or not. Those types always remind me of that scene, in Schindler's list, where Amon Goeth is shooting prisoners from his balcony at the forced labor camp. I know it's just a game, but the act seems sick and despicable none the less. -
I'm totally not feeling the fps-like dog tag idea, but..... The only item I'm on the fence about is the time and cause of death. I don't think a cheesy ass dog tag should tell you with cold data, but I do think it would be neat to "investigate" a dead body and see more immersive messages like "this body has bullet holes in it", "this body has lacerations all over", "this body is bruised and beaten", "this body is torn to shreds", or "this body seems untouched". That coupled with time of death messages like "This body seems fresh", "this body is stiff with rigor", "this body is decomposing", or "this body is badly decomposed". With that being said, the body's don't last longer than ten minutes last I checked, so the latter portion of that is about useless, as is the need to know exactly when they died. you see a dead body, guess what.. they died <10 minutes ago. All in all, Most of these ideas seem like gimmicky FPS crap. Understanding that this isn't always the case, but I don't think a person that kills me deserves to be rewarded with information about me that is not obvious from our interaction. If you want to know my name, or what I've done, just ask, don't shoot. I'm not begging for uber-realism, but I don't want features that detract from the immersion, or make it more of an arcade style game.

was just gonna post that.... I would highly suggest finding dean, and some of the other devs on twitter, there are a ton of tidbits you can find out before they make official posts about it. he said btw "Big success today from our server profiling. Now have some big optimizations for server in development, more zombies!"

One of the devs just posted a tweet the other day that was a pic of a sewing kit (for in game use).. not sure how it will exactly work though. edit: here's the link https://twitter.com/ctorchia/status/430339716823535616/photo/1

I'm right there with ya. been talking to my group about renting one for our community group. The cost is just too high right now. I mean, we could all chip in and it would be minimal cost per person, and we considered it, but in the end, the total cost is just too high to justify paying somebody for the minimal services/features that are available. As the price (hopefully) goes down, and more is added to the game, it might justify renting. Newer AAA games aren't even close to this rate. Arma III was supposed to be a resource intensive game also. Prices were high when it came out too, but not this high, and it has since went way down. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

What kit do you run with when playing as a group medic?
knifeparty replied to bigpapasmurf1600's topic in General Discussion
I'd say that the items that take priority in my load-out are saline, water bottles, morphine, and bandages, as those are the items I end up using/handing out the most. I also, as mentioned above, like to grab any can openers I find. I carry some food, but tend to pass that out less. Other than that, I like to make sure I always have some charcoal tabs on me. The rest of the supplies, I really don't ever end up using, or aren't functional in the game yet. Recently, I have found myself having a type o- blood type, so I have been holding blood bags instead of saline. I usually don't mess with blood test kits and blood. Test kits are too rare, and I don't trust people to tell me their own blood type. I'd like to say I hold onto one just in case we get somebody who claims o-, but I usually end up using them as I get them on people in my pack. -
Sorry, the only thing I hand out in Balota is bandit injuries. It's certainly not the place for missionary work, so to speak.

Why is the Mosin using the wrong ammo?
knifeparty replied to fortyeight's topic in General Discussion
With the extra headspace, I'm not sure if it'd fire. You'd probably have to really adjust the firing pin forward a lot. If it did fire, you'd probably wreck the brass and perhaps eventually your firing pin, although......... The mosin's can take a pretty serious beating though. Here is a link to a Mosin-Nagant torture test. Aside from making me shed a tear at the loss of such a cool gun, it was pretty neat to see them go to town on this thing. They physically beat it, then continually hot load it, until it folds. The torture test link -

yeah, most shot 7.62x54R, then there were 7.62x53 (Finish), 7.62x57 (mauser), and the old, ugly ass 8x50 all the links go to wikipedia for the individual cartridges history, etc.. I'm not sure if there were others, but that is the lions share of them at least... Mosin's are rad. That is all. -

This is a picture of what's behind me right this very second... who doesn't like a little gun pron -
I dropped beans, water, and a can opener for a newspawn last night. He acted like he couldn't see them.. When I crouched over them to try picking them up and placing them down again.. he started punching me.. I said "guess were not friends anymore". Then I shot his dumb ass with my pistol. He was obviously rabid. I swear.. I try to give somebody a free lunch, and all they want to do is leave me lying bloody on the floor.. Not on my watch.

I also only observe my shoes and pants getting wet when I step in low water.. similar to such found on the way into the boat... maybe you were splashing... jk.
