Enjoying dayz as a survival game. Tend to play lone-wolf or in a small pack. Not afraid to mingle and am non-violent, but enjoy sniping bandit wannabe's from time to time

a while ago somebody actually submitted this as a bug and there has been a post about this already. You've been beaten to the punch sir.

Long range skope (LRS) where does it spawn?
knifeparty replied to cessnas (DayZ)'s topic in New Player Discussion
The air control towers, hangars, barracks, and tents have all been locations where I have found them, albeit somewhat rarely. Since the loot has been removed from the tents, I have not came across a single one, not that I am searching for one necessarily. -
You couple people are in no way contributing to this thread. It may not have a ton of depth or overall impact, but your derailments are childish and distracting. I have never felt the need to report anyone, but for you sirs, I make the exception. Please refrain from your little slap fight in this thread so that we may continue our discussion. Thank you.

I think that the majority of those weapons on the OP's list are a little over the top. I would expect to find a mostly Ak vaiants, Ak-47, AK-74, and the AKM... maybe even that new one that never actually made general issue. Makarovs would probably be in abundance. I think that the SKS and the Mosin are also pretty realistic as they are used for ceremony and probably would have as surplus weapons. I'm not so certain about seeing so many M4's. Medium rarity - We could probably expect to find a dragunov here and there in all reality. bizon's and pp-2000's were issued to police more regularly than we might expect in the west, so I would think finding them wouldn't be too terribly uncommon, especially in the new police stations. I would also expect to see the FAL seeing as how popular it was in that entire region, although I would question its rarity and how plentiful the ammo would be. Side note: It uses the 7.62x51mm round, which currently is mis-labeled in game for the Mosin, which is actually a 7.62x54R round. Another interesting note is that 762x51mm and .308 are considered close enough so that .308's can be used in a 7.62x51mm rifle and be safe, even though .308's typically are loaded at higher pressures. very rare - Russian military liked/likes the 12.7x108mm cartridge and uses it in a couple different sniper weapons. the OSV-96 and the KSVK are the main one's, but I have no idea who would in all reality have those weapons. I don't think they were any where near mass-issued. That round they use those is considered a pretty good all around caliber and is used in heavy machine guns as well by other forces. In all reality they may just still use Dragunovs. Low-budget militaries and stand-ups are still using those heavily today.. side note - dragunovs also use the same cartridge as mosin-nagants (bonus!) Of course you could add a good deal of realistic stuff to the very rare list, but considering their rarity of use, ammo could be an issue, except for maybe the AK-variants and the sub mg's which tend to share only a few different cartridge types. I would want something with plentiful ammo and wouldn't consider finding a "rare" gun to be much of a find. It would be cool for something different. but I don't think the list would be all that large. getting bored of writing... must stop now. edit: I am by no means a Russian/Eastern military expert. These are all my opinions based on a lot of reading and some military experience. Feel free to counter if you want to carry on, but flaming will not be entertained. I am merely trying to be informative for those who like a little actual fact along with said opinions.

Can we change our restart time from 4 hours to 2 hours?
knifeparty replied to Dusty_'s topic in Server Advertisement
Vilayer also lets you create a restart task on their default control panel. It can be repeated as much as desired, i.e. set a restart task at midnight and have it repeat every four hours. It was pretty simple to do, even without the battleye extended controls, which vilayer also now offers as an addon as well, as mentioned in the prior post. I know this doesn't help as it is not your server provider. Your providers support system is probably your best route, as also mentioned in a prior post. -
What Do you Guys Think About Not Being Able To use Certain Mask With Certain Helms?
knifeparty replied to Deathlove's topic in General Discussion
Aside from how important it is, or how it's implementation or lack there of is being utilized, Obviously, you can't really put on a gas mask and a motorbike helmet or another mask at the same time. That should not be functional in game. However, you can absolutely wear a ballistic helmet and a gas mas. I don't think removing that ability is a good move, from a common sense perspective. With that being said, until the gas mask serves a functional purpose, it's a worthy but very minor note at this point in time. -

Good vid! I liked the music most of all! It was the perfect volume and set the mood perfectly. Made me feel like Clint Eastwood or something.

I think it would be neat if dead players did end up turning into zombies. There would probably be some pushback from people whom wanted to go back and loot their corpse. If I recall correctly, the timer on a player corpse is ten minutes before it de-spawns. Now, if after that, It turned into a zombie, I think that would be absolutely cool. Even have a different model zombie for it. One that looks more like a player, or perhaps even wears the same clothes as what the player was wearing. On a side note, I believe they have talked about zombies having a chance to infect you. I can't remember what the infections were called, or what the system messages were supposed to say, but one was less serious and the other, rarer one, meant imminent death. Sorry for all the half remembered info, but I saw your post and had to chime in.

Why would I need or want to find anything or go on some quest to make a clan. "Hey dude, want to be in a group with me?" Oh snap, now your a clan... time to find more people...... the old fashioned way.... by communicating. The way it should be. Why would you need to see stats on a clan that invites you. Why would you consider a clan without talking to one of the members first. If some dude spammed my interface with a clan invite, without talking to me, I'd shoot him on principle. People would abuse it to be annoying and turn me into a mass murdering psychopath. Knowing things about people without talking to them completely takes the edge out of the game. Its complete garbage. I don't want people knowing who I am, or who I'm with, unless I want them to know. I don't want to be able to identify somebody from a distance and know whether he has killed 20 people that day, or has sent them all running along with water and beans. 3rd party comms, which any group or clan will end up using, takes all of the guess work out of who your buddy is, and that's not going to change. "hey, bill, what's your dude wearing?". in fact, without even intending to do so, each of my friends that I run with have developed our own natural "style", I can tell who they are immediately just by the clothes they like to loot. We don't need some convoluted clan/guild system in a survival game. The only item on your list I would even remotely consider pleasing, is the crafting of some kind of identifier, like a badge or a clothing item perhaps. Even then, others should be able to replicate it, which would in turn make it useless in anything other than small-group applications to say, identify friendlies in an intense scuffle. If it were something as small as a badge, you'd be too close before it didn't matter anyway, and then why not just ask the person. Even a highly individualized character creation screen would be pointless. You'd have to be too close to figure it out for it to matter. no... just no.

So here's an update after starting a ticket with Vilayer. The random high ping issue I had for a few days had went away, so I did not end up starting a ticket for that. However, Vilayer recently implemented the option to install Battleye Extended Controls (BEC) on our DayZ SA servers. I immediately installed so that I could have better control over sending server messages. However, to my suprise, BEC was kicking people with "[]{}()1234567890" in their names by default, which I did not want. I could not make this change myself (because certain functionality is not provided due to the nature of the Alpha). Because of this I uninstalled the addon, and submitted a ticket to Vilayer. In exactly 12 minutes (on a Sunday) they had responded to me, letting me know they got my ticket. In 14 minutes, I received another response, saying they had the solution (a manual tweak on their end) and they were implementing it immediately for me. In 17 minutes, I received yet another message, letting me know that they had commented out the line I had requested (# DisallowPlayerNameChars = []{}()0123456789). I don't know about yall, but I'd say that 17 min total was a damn good response time. My server has been running great otherwise. Thanks Vilayer, looks like I'll be keeping you around :D

I will put in a ticket with them tonight. I'll report back here as to how/when/if they respond.

B95, Mosin question | Sawn of Blaser K95
knifeparty replied to irishroy's topic in General Discussion
It killed the first guy, one shot. I assume the second guy simply got knocked out. They were similar shots in elevation to the body. One was in the back, one was in the chest, both center mass. The only difference I believe is that guy #2 was probably healthier, or perhaps even at full health. Also of note, I got shot in the back with a mosin the other day at nearly point blank range (<10m). I'm not sure where exactly the other guy was aiming, but I had all pristine gear and was full health. I didn't even get knocked unconscious. I simply fell to the ground. I had my weapon out but he was able to pull off a second kill shot on me while I spun around on my belly, just in time to see him fire again. -
B95, Mosin question | Sawn of Blaser K95
knifeparty replied to irishroy's topic in General Discussion
I got shot at running into Krasnostav when the over-under's were first implemented. All I had was a single speed loader of two rounds on me. I ran for the schoolhouse type building and found a B95. It seemed like an eternity as I waited for my assailant. Turns out it was two of them (both wearing giant, bright red mountain packs). I see them running south along my west side. As they line up to run into a house, I shoot the first guy in the back and he drops. As the second guy kneels in place, I shoot him in the chest and he also goes down. With little food and gear on my person, I immediately run to the house they were trying to enter. I shut the door. I hear zombie aggro so I pull out my fire axe. low and behold, in walks the second guy I had shot, whom I thought was dead. To his surprise and my chagrin I axe him to death at the feet of his dead friend. I retrieve much loot and haul ass out of town. That was my first experience with the B95. I was surprised seeing as how it was a sub-50m shot and it was the same ammo as the mosin. I expected to drop him in one shot... True story.
