If I have no gear whatsoever and think I have an even remote chance to sneak up on a player I don't know and has gear and bash his head in while he's preoccupied I'm going to take it. Worse case scenario I just spawn down the road with nothing on me still. How nice the player is has nothing to do with it.

I really think there is some truth to this. I've been running with a grey hoodie and black cargo pants and have had multiple encounters that did not end in bloodshed even though I am armed to the teeth.

This exact thing just happened to me. Added a comment to the main bug report. Will try some of the potential solutions in this thread. Hope it won't be a common problem moving forward.

I clicked loot respawn as soon as I saw the poll, but now after reading a few responses I agree that more zombies would probably provide the best immediate benefit. I've been swayed.

I have to go outside to smoke. Every time I AFK to go out side I panic thinking I will be coming back to a death screen. Good story man.

Found mine on the deck of the ship at Rify.

Hi, somewhat new player here (no mod experience). Just wanted to tell a pointless story. Logged on today and fairly quickly found an SKS on the ship at Rify. My friend and I have both been sticking to the player-less void in the north and wanted some interaction. We decided that heading south from Berezino along the coast would be the best way to meet some people. So we head down meeting mostly ungeared fresh spawns who are reluctant to speak to us, and we are reluctant to waste ammo on. We finally make our way to the factory/industrial area just north of Solnichniy. Nothing out of the ordinary: everything looted and nobody around. No snipers at the factory. We climb the hill to make sure no snipers are camping the quarry and find nothing. We both have a quick discussion about what to do next. Do we take the long trek to Elektro to probably die? (Which both of us sadly did the night before) Or do we head back north to see if any geared players are in Berezino? We choose north. Almost immediately after coming down off the quarry hill we cross the road along the tree line and we spot a geared player running down the train tracks. He is in full camo holding a mosin. We both take positions in tree cover and go prone. As we do this (I can only assume) he see us and sprints for cover in some pine trees along the train tracks. What seems like forever passes as we keep our gaze at his position. Eventually I tell my friend to stay where he is and cover and I move in to confirm his location. I move from bush to bush to fence to fence thinking I am a ninja and eventually get to his last known position: nobody there? "Logged" I thought??? It had been way more than 30 seconds since we saw him so he could have feasibly logged out. So instead of sitting around waiting for someone to get the drop on us while we have our thumbs up our you know what, we decide to start moving north again. About 50 meters once we pass the factory on the tree line we hear to loud and distinct noise of a gun reloading in our headsets. I rotate my view behind me to see the same guy, same cammo, same mosin, same everything logging back into the game on the north side of the wall of the factory. Of course we immediately go prone and take cover. He hasn't seen us... My friend, holding a mosin with PU scope, gets up and goes up the hill to provide visual support. I am about 100 meters from the north side of wall hiding in a bush. The enemy in question puts his weapon on his back and puts his fists up to sprint. He starts heading north (I assume he thinks we are still camping him to the south). My friend tells me his location and that is when it happens: I combat roll out of the bush and BAM headshot him from about 25 meters as he is unknowingly sprinting right towards me. He falls to the ground. We rejoice over VOIP. Survey the area, then partake in the goodies on his corpse. Great day! Sorry if this sounds like a bandit story. This is really my first victory in this game. All of my other kills have come from people who were as afraid of me as I was of them and I came out with the upper hand, or people who happened to log in next to me while I was at the airfields. Other than that I have been murdered countless times by people I never saw. I know this is a long winded story that might not have much to do about the SKS, but it's the first time I felt like I was no longer a noob. Only took 70 hours of play time lol.

The fully geared player that didn't shoot me only gave me 3 cans of beans, a can opener, and a fire axe. Asshole.

It's my favorite weapon in the game now. I just feels great when you fire it.

True. I think I need a few more in game friends before I have the courage to journey back in Elektro.

I love the logout timer. I just wish it would countdown before the game exits and not after. I am just used to this from many other MMO's (not sure if DayZ is an MMO, it's just all I have to go by.)

I wish I had that happen to me even once after I've died lol.

Thanks! I hope this is the first of many to come. For a bit there I was starting to feel like I wasn't going to be able to survive in the harsh world of DayZ. Now I know at least I might have a chance lol.

I like to help others, but I don't think we should flame BaitedHook. All of us have just been killed with an amazing kit and not wanted to talk to anyone after death. Not sure if he should have created a thread to complain about it, but it is a valid opinion in the game. The other day I got shot by an unknown person and when I spawned I charged the first geared person I could find trying to punch him in the head. He was trying to help me, but it didn't matter. I wanted blood for blood not matter who it was. One of the things I love about this game.

Please don't demean all of us lol. For all of it's arguments I actually think this forum is somewhat productive. As for OP's question: I think SKS replaces one of the weapons in question.

Just ended a play session that yielded me 3 SKS kills and I have to say I prefer it over the M4 now. Although in each scenario I had the upper hand, so the M4 probably works better in a frantic situation.

I found a down jacket earlier but I couldn't equip it or pick it up for some reason.

I just found one on the ship. Took a few test shots with a PU scope (non-combat) and it felt really good. Can't wait to test it out on some players.

I joined up with a friend through the steam chat window the other day. We ran around all night to people waving and saying hello. Even had a nice chat with someone in an office building. I thought "that was a fun server" and looked through my history to add it to favorites. BAM PVE Server. Damn friendlies tricked me into becoming one of them.
