Go play on a whitelisting RP server. Much much less KoS. I'm actually considering to become hostile, to spice things up a bit. (Robbing, no killing if not needed.) Literally everyone i met was friendly. (About 20 people in 2 days, sometimes groups of 10 at once. We had a neat barbeque together.)

Only notice i had of one so far was somebody racing through Elektro. Didn't want to give us a lift.

[Falcon] DayZ Standalone Roleplay/Realism Server Private Shard
Greaves replied to redblaster100's topic in Servers
Played a few hours last night, it's bloody awesome. -
Not sure, although i do know some people who will get the hero clothes if they shoot themselves in DayZ, even though they're not even in the game.

Something for the ladies... the Pink Derringer exists!
Greaves replied to Death By Crowbar's topic in General Discussion
Got one of those in some private shard. No ammo for it though. What does it use? -
While AI improvements are good, imagine facing 20 zombies at once with the current zombie AI. You'd run, or team up with that dude across the street to kill them. (Unless you have an M4 with loads of ammo, maybe.) Also zombie AI and the current DayZ clunkyness go hand in hand. I'd only want zombies with great AI when i can also swing my pickaxe with great precision. The clunky controls are fine for the current zombies, but make the AI great without also making the animations smooth and better controlable, and it ends up in frustration. I would add hordes first, then update AI and melee controls simultaniously.

PSA: Turn up your Input Volume to make yourself louder in game
Greaves replied to trimpampano's topic in General Discussion
But how does this work? If i turn it to the max, and talk to someone from 1 meter away, will their ears start to bleed? Or does it simply match the real life voice volume/distance when maxed? -
Problem with this merge is that I don't think the game is shit and want my money back.

I've already had more fun playing this alpha than almost any other complete game. The 20 bucks i payed was a steal. -
[Falcon] DayZ Standalone Roleplay/Realism Server Private Shard
Greaves replied to redblaster100's topic in Servers
Added you on steam, i'm interested. How effective are your servers though? Is there really more roleplaying/less deathmatch, or is it simply a magnet for people who only like to shoot? Because roleplayers are easy targets. -
Time to reduce run speed with vehicles inbound?
Greaves replied to Bororm's topic in General Discussion
I'd actually like being able to play an overweight caracter, and have shit stamina. I'm a wee bit fat in real life, so why not have that penalty in game? I'd be forced to fight zombies, cause running from them ain't gonna happen. I can sprint pretty fast for like 20 seconds, but then i'm spent. Bikes are where it's at. Not sure about other countries, but everyone here has at least one bike. They're cheap and easely maintainable. Getting around on those would still be fast, but requires much less stamina. I don't even know why they didn't add those before cars. Unless they did add them? -
It's not about trust. Even when helping people, always expect the knife in your back. Trust is the enemy. Chat up people, hold them at gunpoint, possibly give them some food or a weapon, clothes, directions, and bugger of. Teaming up with them is VERY likely to get you killed. Only team up with friends you didn't meet in DayZ.

After a long break (played a couple of months since the standalone came out, then only hopped in very occasionally) i decided to hop in again and see where things are at. Died thrice last night. 10/10 excited to play again. The game is really starting to feel like a challenge. First i died from hunger and thirst, couldn't remember the fountain locations and i've learned to not look at the map anymore for more fun. Everything was looted, no food for me. Then i died from sickness due to eating some shady berries (that was unexpected, pretty cool!) Last i died from underestimating the new zombies. Man these bastards are agressive now. I've learned to run instead of facing 4 with a shovel. Anyway, i'm glad to see more progress. I've known there was always progress, since i read the patch notes, but the game actually feels different now. Can't wait to be done with work and try anew. What's the point of this post, you ask? Just venting my appreciation for what the devs are doing. (To go back to the map thing, if new players read this: don't look at the online map. It makes the game way too easy.)

I'm not even using the in-game maps at the moment. Not knowing what's ahead makes the game much more exciting. I got to know the whole map because i looked online, but since they're adding new places i can explore again. It makes me wonder what the ultimate map is going to be. A whole new added province with cities and villages maybe? It'd be very cool.

The mod is more demanding for my pc than the standalone, and since you said you have a crappy laptop, i'd go for the standalone. Also, the standalone will have more stuff in and work better than the mod, so it's simply the better option in the long run.

I'll wager that will get boring very fast, because without many other people in the server, the tension which makes DayZ great is gone. Avoiding any contact is a choice many people make, but playing on high-pop servers makes sure you might actually see people to avoid. Also, not sure why my text is in a white box. lol

Great effort, kudos. Also fly over here and move in please.

This is very personal. I personally only like shooting people if i'm 100% sure they murder possibly innocent people. And if i go into hardcore roleplaying mode, i also don't like shooting people because i don't want to take lives. I will always try to hold somebody up first, because that's what i find to be the most fun i can have in the game. I understand your point of view though.

Added you on Steam, i'll team up with you if ping allows it. I've met a mixture of agressive, scared, insane and friendly survivors. All are needed to make this a good game, but you just seem unlucky regarding the people you meet. It's true that too many people regard the game as a simple shooter at the moment, but since there is nothing to be done until either they get bored and leave, or the devs can change their minds somehow, playstyles are limited. As you've probably learned now, you can't trust anyone and so you have to try as hard as you can to spot other players before they spot you. This way you can sneak up on them, hold them up, and possibly find out their intentions. Then act accordingly. Being in full control of a meeting is the safest way to interact with people, but even then they still might have some mates around who can turn the tide. It keeps you on your toes at all times, which makes the game so great and sometimes even intense. Also, as somebody who thinks more realism = more fun, i would be against a karma system. In real life you wouldn't be able to see somebody's intentions, why should you be able to in game? But there are endless debates about that on the forum already.

How do you veterans start a fresh spawn? ( dayZ SA)
Greaves replied to killbot420's topic in New Player Discussion
I got invited to the game last year by a couple of friends. They used the DB map, and advised me to do so too. I regret it now, because i learned where everything was WAY too fast. I don't even need it anymore now, because i simply know where everything is. Bottom line, the map takes away the excitement of stumbling upon a village, city or good loot spot by yourself. -
Like other people said, try sticking to the same server. I still have my character from months ago, because i always play on the same server. Pick one you might like, add to favourites before joining it, and try it out. If that server doesn't do it for you, delete it from favourites and repeat.

Even if you could, wouldn't you simply be able to cut trough the fabric and still get in? OT: Thanks for the update :)

Update (16/1): Player Proximity DeSync Issue (Solutions/Workarounds!)
Greaves replied to scottishrebel's topic in Troubleshooting
I have desync sometimes, but not enough to be really anoying. It seems to be every other day. One day i'll be fine, next day is unplayable. Day after is fine again. I always play on the same server, and use AVG for security. -
Combat failure/tips: Learning the hard way
Greaves replied to StayAlive (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Going prone with the Mosin often makes me hit the ground in front of me. So i usually stay crouched. I agree with the adrenaline thing though, if i get in a firefight, i do things on impulse, and sometimes i'm not thinking straight. How did you know they were bandits, though? I prefer practicing my shooting on zombies. Don't want to shoot friendlies. (Zhrike you ninja you) -
So you don't consider peaking through walls in 3d person an exploit either? 'Tis in the game, after all. You can rationalise everything that way. You can say using cheats is fine, because hey, others can do it. Like SoulFirez said, i don't think the devs intention was to let people do this. And if you know it's probbly gonna get fixed, you know you shouldn't use it.
-
lol. Yeah. No, it's an exploit.
