Doors should be physical objects so a player can push/pull them open/close when touching them. Like in real life. Use the doorknob and then just push or pull. There should not be fixed open/close animations imo.

[Goodbyes, Tributes and Apologies] Messages for the Dead
robophant posted a topic in General Discussion
Hello survivors, I'd like to open this thread to allow people leaving messages for the recently deceased (or non-survivors ^_^) The reason for me personally is that I mostly like to apologize to my latest victims which I had to kill either out of sheer panic or misinterpretation of the situation. Also I'd like to pay tribute to other combatants who fought a fair and intense fight. In addition to the forum rules and to maintain a certain level of style: - No name & shame - No gloating, malicious glee, schadenfreude Keep it civil & don't end up as a subject of this thread (aka. stay safe) -
[Goodbyes, Tributes and Apologies] Messages for the Dead
robophant replied to robophant's topic in General Discussion
Ok, me first. I'd like to apologize to the guy in Stary Sobor on experimental UK06 server who was peacefully looting one of the loot-explosion spots at around 20:00pm (Berlin time). Nothing personal, just me being super nervous after I got KOSed even on experimental several times before. -
Is there any info on actual protection value of all the different vests?
-
^this? I can't really find a definite statement on the matter. Does anyone know?

Lets talk about the Recoil system and stabilization of firearms
robophant replied to DarkenedxGospel's topic in Suggestions
Hmmm i dunno.... When watching youtube vids where people just spray some AK rounds it looks pretty accurate. I think recoil, even when aiming down the sight, is way to high. -
I don't think that the base would be invulnerable just because it's hidden somewhere far out. Of course the map doesn't have to be 'infinite' but let's say at least 10-20 times bigger than it is now. You would still have to do supply runs into "civilization" and that's the point where you can be stalked back to your base. Also, if far out, people might still stumble over your base by accident or they hear you shooting an animal or stuff like that. I really like to hear the devs opinion on this matter

Can you sneak/make no sound when walking?
robophant replied to marcusostl's topic in General Discussion
crouch and just keep tabbing "W" just for a nanosecond - it wont make a sound at all but you may look ridiculous. Also it's very slow. -
Sorry for the bump, but I kind of want clarification on this matter since I regard this as the biggest flaw in the whole survival-approach of DayZ. If mapsize stays as limited as it is right now the game will just end up being either crowded by massive bases or (if no massive bases allowed) it will just be another shooter (but with extremely long and painful loot-up sessions before you can even start to think about fighting). Either way it will be really frustrating. I am not going around for hours to get fishing equipment just to get shot at the next lake. Same goes for growing plants or even maintaining a car/truck It just doesn't make sense as it is right now.

Everyone plays the game the way they want, so...
robophant replied to NomadZ's topic in General Discussion
no fight at all? you didn't combat log, you've pussied out! -
I really like the way they reduced the magic-eyeball-zoom. Since render distance of grass is so very limited it was literally impossible to hide in a field or even in trees without being spotted immediately from 1km away. Now at least somebody has to expect you at a certain location and has to take a closer look through binocs or a scope to be sure it is a player. No more ironsight snipers please!

thanks for the response I think that having an endless forest wouldn't be such a huge issue (in terms of immersion). The real world is even bigger (orly :P) and you would need a lot of pristine pairs of shoes to go all around. Take Siberia for example - There are a some civilized areas but mostly it is full of endless forests and plains. Nobody there for miles and miles. Why would water be a problem? Is there a technical reason? The only problem I can see with my idea is that we would have to either be able to craft our own clothes and shoes or we would have to make a long journey back into civilized areas to loot up with necessary stuff like medics, cloth and fuel etc... But that could be a fun part of the game.

u guys are sick :p

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times...
robophant replied to gcriseightysix's topic in General Discussion
Ye it's all about the mood for sure. I hate this game as much as I love it. Sometimes I can't help but sending all the devs to hell for the latest "death by glitch" - But everytime I start all over as a freshspawn all is forgiven immediately and I would like to hug them. Is weird... is silly... love it -
I have got to be the unluckiest player in DayZ
robophant replied to WilliamTheConqueror's topic in General Discussion
rule no.1 in dayz: Best protection against KoS is KoS Been alive since 0.57 hit the fan and haven't been killed before that either. -
Did u seriously camp the heli on an empty server? Well done there :p

Multi-Person Mechanics to discourage KOS
robophant replied to FlimFlamm's topic in General Discussion
What if I knock you over the head and take all your gear and after a while, when you have looted up again, I will do it all over again. Does this count as Mulit-Person role? -
Emergence in DayZ; What is it? Is it good? KOS'ing?
robophant replied to FlimFlamm's topic in General Discussion
I have to disagree. Walkie talkies are one of the best features since you wont know everyone on a 50plyer server. Right now there is no way to talk to ppl other than in direct or via teamspeak. Walkie Talkies will enable players to communicate over greater distances without them knowing each other or each others location. Frankly one of the best items in game. Unfortunately nobody uses them atm. -
There are no good Dayz SA youtubers?
robophant replied to crazyandlazy's topic in General Discussion
hey, there a some really good tubers right now but it's true, there aren't many new vids or a high frequency of uploads. Frankie stopped playing since there is more money to make in other gameplay vids :D If you are looking for 'hardcore survival bromance' check out the channel of 'MrBlackout81' If you like the dickheadish part of dayz go to 'JamJar's channel. They both play together a lot of times. Both tubers are nice to watch and they usually have really good gameplay footage. -
I bought the game for the lolz

So far it sums up to this: - still very frustrating gameplay and general clunkyness - slowest progress ever - there are still bugs which any sane mind would have fixed long time ago. I'm talking about the little annoying bugs, not that huge general bug the whole game is right now. Little bugs (or is it carelessness?) when your character unvoluntary stands up when eating, or when the shitty jump-key just wont work (for whatever reason). Come on guys, these are basics in any other game. Why are you make it so bugged and clunky? Release date at this rate: 2025 (if we are lucky)
-
typical answer... anyway, obviously I "backed" this game because I didn't want to "make a game on the scale that DayZ is going for" by myself. And I did this because I had faith in the dev-team. Right now I am frankly disappointed by both, the rate of progress and the direction the game is heading. And I certainly will not "back" any other game any time soon after this experience.

ye them bugs... sry for the rant but this is getting ridiculous

Do Zombies Dream Of A Good Nights Sleep? (Zombie feedback)
robophant replied to SmashT's topic in General Discussion
I like it (except for the Zeds-glued-to-your-butt part). At least the Zeds are not so utterly un-threatening like the ones in The Walking Dead. Can't wait to see hords roaming chernarus. Keep the lasers. -
Do Zombies Dream Of A Good Nights Sleep? (Zombie feedback)
robophant replied to SmashT's topic in General Discussion
I appreciate you took the time to respond. It's getting so very frustrating to see that the devs are actually releasing unfinished and bugged functions to stable, that's all i'm saying. Oh, sure, it's alpha and things will be bugged and unfinished as per definition, i know that. But there is no point and no reason to add something like that to stable because that's what experimental is there for. Don't they have a way to actually smooth out major edges before they release something to stable. I mean, just a little bit, just to get rid of the most game-breaking parts of the new stuff. It surely was not necessary for the development of this game to put those new bugged mechanics to stable. Combine this together with the insanely slow progress of development and you will get a mad robophant
