Fun to done in less than 30 minutes...

They do....! It's not like there has been a lack of effort on Rocket & teams part with bug fixes. Hell, even BIS(arma2 developer) stepped up and fixed stuff that was DayZ related. When people say... it's alpha. They mean in alpha there are bugs. It doesn't mean they accept the bugs, it means the developer hasn't had time to fix them yet.

They probably wrote that bit about DayZ on the Arma2 page because people were most likely buying just arma2 and then complaining that DayZ didn't work. It's hardly an advertisement for DayZ, it just states that it requires Arma2 and OA. Question, how many alphas have you been a part of? If you say anything except lots, you're hardly a good judge on brokeness and frequency of patches.

It's not a matter of X turbo not fitting Y car. It's a matter of changing the way the engine works. DayZ is also changing the way the engine works. So problems are to be expected. Just like when you throw an "extra part" like a turbo onto the engine of a car. Your going to have to dyno the car, tune it, try again, until you get it working. Nice try with the lamps tho.

    Friend's Alienware

Looking at their website(Canadian version) the base graphics card for that model is the GTX 660m. I suggest you put that high cost to good use and call tech support. I wouldn't stand for that bullshit, you buy an alienware, you want it to play games out of the box.

Your failure to understand mods has spilled over into cars now. You can't just slap a turbo onto any car like it's fucking icing on a cake. Jeez, I don't know a lot about cars, but even I know that.

You should worry about yourself and let me live my own fucking life?

Fun to done in less than 30 minutes...

The thread title is rather deceiving, I thought it was going to be about getting all geared up within 30 minutes and how that makes the game boring.

    Exactly how rare are animals?

The airfield in the NE always seems to have a cow wandering around the runway.

Playing with friends = good for the community?

That's exactly the problem I feared and touched on in my original post. People have been grouping up already, so their view of what DayZ is or is supposed to be, has been corrupted by what they've already been doing. To force those people to change their game up, would be considered unfair by many. Grouping up with real life friends is DayZ to some people.

Playing with friends = good for the community?

My goal was to see if anyone shared my views towards outside groups being able to easily bring their group into the DayZ world. It's ironic that people are telling me to find friends and don't be such a lone wolf. That's kind of what I'm pushing for here, to make DayZ a place where people want to make friends and group up, not becasue they know the people IRL, but becasue that's the "only" way it can happen.

Playing with friends = good for the community?

Okay, guess it's unclear why I think this will help DayZ. No, I don't want to lone wolf. Yes, I like playing in groups. Is that clear enough? I think the OUTSIDE groups coming into DayZ is the problem. I think people should group up with other survivors they encounter. I think it hurts the DayZ community when people like Jovials clan are "hesitant to recruit anyone who isn't already part of their community".

Playing with friends = good for the community?

It would and it wouldn't. If you just hid your servers name it would mean everyone is a stranger. But if they hid the server name and allowed for connections to be made inside the game, it would create a community. What I mean is that when you physically stand next to someone in the game, you should be able to "add as friend" or something along those lines. He would be added to your contacts and you would be able to join his server. Of course, you could still search for your friends and maybe eventually find them, but it would be easier to make new friends and group up with them. Right now, it's easier to make friends outside of DayZ than it is inside DayZ, that's a problem in my eyes.

Playing with friends = good for the community?

I'm not worried DayZ will not end up how I expect it. I'm surprised that so many people don't see any potential for a system where you can't bring your friends to the apocalypse. I'm surprised people can't see the value of entering a zombie apocalypse alone. When I saw that Rocket had removed the teamwork aspects of Arma2 I had this picture in my head of being completely alone. Any progress you made in the game, would come from your actions in the game. If you wanted help, you had to go find it. You had to approach people and create a relationship. In reality, DayZ is overwhelmed with people from pre-existing communities using 3rd party voice software, progressing using their previous relationships, prior to even playing the game. For example, if your clan has a group in DayZ, the instant you start the game you have already gotten past one of the biggest parts of the game, socializing. I understand why people will respond with "Play it how you want, don't worry about other people" except other people are an integral part of playing DayZ. The frame of mind other players are in plays a HUGE role in my(and everyones) game experience. If players have an unrealistic ignorance towards others in the world, it hurts the consistency of the game.

Solution to 3rd Party Comms / Friend Finding. In-Game Radio.

Currently, dc'ing is not the same as not using direct chat. But, seeing as this is a discussion about the hypothetical sitution where forcing direct chat was enabled, then yes I would consider circumventing the direct chat lock to be just as exploitative as dc'ing or server hopping. You really didn't understand that? The original post you quoted said exactly what I just said.

    Friends System

Obviously not. When someone says "3d markers have no place in DayZ" is it not clear how they feel about ALL 3d markers? Why do you ask?

Solution to 3rd Party Comms / Friend Finding. In-Game Radio.

I guess you didn't fully follow the conversation so far. It WOULD be cheating to circumvent this system IF it was implemented. Using 3rd part voice software is not cheating. Circumventing game mechanics that would force direct chat always on, would be cheating.

Solution to 3rd Party Comms / Friend Finding. In-Game Radio.

LOL wow. I'm guessing you consider it just fine to disconnect during combat and server hop as well? Wouldn't want to force you into combat or force you to actually play the game the way Rocket intended. Nobody would be "invading your privacy" if something like this was implemented. You can chose not to plug in your mic, you could chose not to speak, you could chose not to play DayZ, or you can chose to circumvent the system. I love how some people instantly scream "DON'T TELL ME HOW TO PLAY DAYZ!" when people suggest stuff like this. They see their exploits possibly being fixed and start to sweat.

    New mechanic: weapon health system

The reason I dislike your idea so much is the lack of any avoidance. This idea that a weapon is doomed from the start really rubs me the wrong way. But, then adding in a way to avoid the failure just circumvents the whole idea of end-game weapons failing. So it's all just pointless in my eyes.
  24. bad_mojo (DayZ)

    New mechanic: weapon health system

It's still going to be artificial becasue people who know how to maintain weapons in real life are not able to transfer those skills into the game. While your system might make perfect sense on paper, in practice people are going to rage over the unrealism that happens when this mechanic has its effect. If I was going to suggest something along these lines I would want to add in a gun cleaning kit, and the weapons would get a green bar similar to magazines, when that bar gets close to empty the weapon requires cleaning. If you neglect to do this and the bar goes to nothing THEN and on then would your weapon have a random chance to jam or stop functioning. At that point you would be required to use the cleaning kit to clear the jam and get it working again.

Oh yeah? Which teamspeak or skype call is everyone in DayZ connected to? Oh that's right...
