Light RP, Community Growth, Private Server Discussion
bad_mojo (DayZ) replied to Katabasis's topic in General Discussion
I think your focus should be to provide the best environment for this stuff to happen naturally. The admin should be removed from the picture entirely. It's not your world, your rules, etc. You become a third party, or silent observer, only stepping in when critically needed. Your goal with services(forum, voip, etc) would be in a supporting role. Rather than having a typical forum with official announcements, faction lists, traders, and other similar stuff. You should provide "factions" with their own "secret" forums, private teamspeak rooms, and other services. I wouldn't want to learn about the other post-apocalyptic groups and factions from reading forums. That should be a discovery left for in-game. Meeting someone in Berezino and having them asking me to join up with their group. Or having a bandit explaining they collect shoes and souls. Or meeting a trader and finally getting that piece of loot you needed. That stuff should happen organically, not be organized out of the game in some online forum. If you haven't met me in-game, why should you know anything about me? Likewise, if you haven't learned of our group, why do you get to know everything about us? Factions forums and voip sessions should be private. There should be no main forum, because there is no forum of Chernarus. The main site would consist of information about the server and tools for groups to organize themselves. Key word being themselves. In my opinion, having main teamspeak and forum areas makes it all pointless, because it eliminates the whole role play of meeting and interacting with others. -
I do not approve. I can't count the number of times I've been looting a military spawn or something of equal danger only to have the dreaded No message from server We do not always have control of where we log out.

Maybe there could be a "premium hive" of sorts. If your character can survive longer than X amount of game time, they would be granted access to premium servers. As soon as you die, you're back in the normal servers. It wouldn't lock you to only the premium servers, but it would be a reward for your character surviving a while.

He said 20+ medic runs, been fired upon lots. Sounds like risk to me. -
Experimental Patch Stuffed = Throw up
bad_mojo (DayZ) replied to koNtenT's topic in General Discussion
Actually he said "can't run anywhere while stuffed" so it's rather similar to how our bodies work in real life. When you stuff yourself, do you usually go for a sprint right after? Start swinging your axe around? Go for a swim? No, you sit on your ass and let that food digest a bit first. I'm guessing if he sat down in-game and gave his stomach a minute to settle before jumping up and sprinting off to have an axe fight, he might not have puked it all up. -

What's that saying about eating & drinking before swimming? Maybe just sit around and wait until you aren't stuffed. -
Duplication exploit - need for global wipe?
bad_mojo (DayZ) replied to frosti's topic in General Discussion
Wasn't the wipe done before because people had spawned in loot that was causing servers to crash? I have no problems with a wipe, but I don't really think it's needed if it's only to clear some dupers inventories. Seems like we're all being punished for the sake of a few. -

Good advice. Another thing I would add to the last point, don't let players stand right next to you. They might try to force feed, restrain, or punch you out. Couldn't agree more about the devildoggamer video, what a jackass, can't believe I was ever subscribed to him. -
I think the solution is already in place tho, you bore those people to death until they leave the game. If I started playing a racing game and rather than racing down the track for the best times, I just smashed into other racers and acted like it was a destruction derby, because that is the game I really want it to be, would you suggest that racing game change to win me over? Should they add in rewards for me not smashing into people? That assumes that every smash is a bad smash, or that not smashing is a good thing. Which it might not be in every case. Somebody blocking the racing line might need a nudge, or smash to learn to get off the track next time. Point is, if we add rewards for people who survive, or increase the punishments for dying, then we're going to inevitably punish everyone, either for not getting the reward, or for dying when it was out of their control. A good example would be death bans. Sure, a 6hr death ban would be great for stopping suicidal tactics. But, it's also going to stop an honest player from playing. There are plenty of other ways you could discourage being suicidal, but 99% of them aren't perfect and will inflict unjustified pain onto honest players. Should we all live in a padded world because a few people can't be careful of the sharp edges?

It's your health indicator and can introduce another layer of difficulty when you end up being low on health. Look at how "fun" it would be to try and navigate the world at low health... Also, check out the other guides by Merino, they're the best source for educating yourself.

You want to see plans? http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/156129-confirmed-upcoming-features-for-dayz/ I certainly don't see DayZ the way you've explained. My goal is not to arm myself and go kill players. My goal is simply to survive. Sometimes I approach people, sometimes I observe them, sometimes I run from them. I've yet to shoot at anyone, but some day I might have to do that too. I didn't want to start listing off things that I do in-game because everyone's tastes are different, and I don't really feel like defending things I feel are fun(Which is what those lists always amount to). Maybe the only thing you can find fun is killing other players. That's fine, but if that gets boring and you can't find anything else to entertain yourself, I don't think the game should constantly reward your survival, in order to keep you interested in playing.(Which is what this thread implies) I think people are expecting too much from "more". I fear a lot of people expect that new features will give direction to this game. But, from what I've read and heard on the subject, the additions will only enhance what is already here. It will increase difficulty and increase the amount of work we have to do, but the game is always going to be basic, there's always going to be nothing to do except what you decide to do. Hunting, cooking, vehicles, those things are not going to add in anything major, they just extending the scavenging & movement gameplay we already have. Increased medical difficulties, if anything, will make suicide even more attractive. More items to loot will just keep us looting over and over. To answer your question, yes, this is how I like DayZ to be. Basic, but open ended. A real sandbox without direction, without instruction, without mercy or reward. But, I'm not your average gamer. I've never liked things like achievements, or skill trees. Never been a fan of friendly fire protection, aim assist, or an intrusive HUD. I played games like minecraft for hours and hours, without mods, without other players, just screwing around doing my own thing, do whatever struck me as fun. I would rather tinker around with a mob spawner for hours than to run through some 'on rails' single player campaign. I'm an extreme team player in most games, but when it comes to DayZ I don't even use teamspeak, I don't even play this game with my friends. I've taken to the role of survivor, embraced the environment and all its limitations. I make real dayz friends as an individual, in the game, not because they're a key to my fun, but because they're sharing my virtual world, they're in this same meat grinder, trying to keep the red in.

If you can't answer that question, then maybe accept that this game isn't for you. Nobody is going to be able to tell you what to do. You have to find what entertains you. If you can't find entertainment past gearing up, maybe look for another game with more structure.

Tisk, tisk.

I think his biggest gripe with the game is there's no reward for survival.
-
I believe in one of his other videos he said he got them from the game code.

6 hour death bans. It will hurt honest players who already value their lives, but it will fix your "problem".
-
So you've met every person in Chernarus? This is a multiplayer game. The journey has more than just scenery.
-
First of all I wouldn't be communicating with people 10km away. Secondly, if I wanted to go 10km, I would just run there because survival is what I'm looking for in my DayZ time. I'm not looking for a quick fix, I'm not looking to maximize my fun. I'm not looking to work the system to make my time more useful. I'm looking to put myself to the test in the environment Rocket has outlined for us. If you can't find the point in running 10km, what's the point in even playing DayZ? What's the point in playing any video game? It's all just meaningless 1's and 0's painting pixels on your screen. You gain nothing, your time is always wasted.
-
Arabs are some of the nicest people I've ever met.
-
The examples you gave are not problems for DayZ to fix. They're players that need to realize dayz isn't for them. If your first instinct when faced with a 10km journey is to jump off a roof, why the fuck should the game change to suit you?
-
I don't care if your have it off or not to be perfectly honest, but I think it's funny how your comment is a complete contradiction to the video you quoted. It shows the huge variation of blurriness during the different levels of health. But yeah, ONLY when your near to death you say? If you're gonna shit on a thread, at least don't make it so easy to disprove.

Top 10 Things to do in DayZ (While we wait for more)
bad_mojo (DayZ) replied to ep_metheus's topic in Gallery
You know you can actually read the book and not just spin the model...? -
The way I look at it, you're sacrificing gameplay for an advantage over others. If you're looking to get into lots of firefights then I certainly wouldn't recommend post processing. But, if you want another challenge, give it a try. My experience with being shot would have been very different if I didn't have it turned on. I could have been combat effective, even when I shouldn't have been. It's another layer to the game/combat that you miss out on when you favor the path of least resistance.

Merinos comments were what inspired me to try turning PP on.
