Where does one find dogs?

I'm sorry but saying that the OP is a regular just reinforces the need for a warning. He has 800+ posts on this forum, he should know better. -
People who play 3rd person
bad_mojo (DayZ) replied to bad_mojo (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I remember having this exact debate on the project reality forums and somebody posted this dev diary video from one of the arma2 developers, he talks a bit about first & third person view @ 2:20 -
Simple idea, right click on your backpack and select "Place on ground" and then he does an animation and your backpack is on the ground. Except unlike simply dropping the pack, it has the "save backpack" option, so you can throw down your backpack somewhere without the fear of losing it. Would be good for moving items to a safer location. If you found some bodies with good gear and packs, you could drop yours somewhere safe, and then make runs back to the bodies stripping them of their packs and gear. It would also be easier to hide a backpack, but with the difficulty of moving backpacks around, it would still make the tent desirable. Not to mention the risk of having your pack found and stolen.

I think if they did let you put empty backpacks into your backpack it should take up most of the room in your pack. When I thought up this suggestion I thought it would be cool to have that risk & reward factor of having to run around without a pack until you find another one. If they let you carry around backpacks, they would just be smaller tents and setting one up wouldn't leave you at any disadvantage. And if we were able to carry multiple packs around, they would be spammed all over the place. So I'm not too sure about that.

I consider looking over objects an exploit. Just like I consider alt-f4'ing while being shot at to be an exploit. As well as using the scripting system for non-intended purposes. Those things are all part of the game, but they're not being used the way Rocket intends us to use them. You use them to circumvent the difficulty of the game, which is exploitation of the system. I don't give a shit if people use 3rd person, it doesn't effect me much. But, the debate is going on so I threw in my opinion on the subject. MisterMister, are you seriously trying to say that parts of games can never be exploited? LOL @syncmaster yeah I should have added the word help in there. "Turning off headbob will help prevent it" I didn't mean to imply it was a miracle cure for everyone. To the "what tactical game doesn't let you use third person?" question.... Project Reality. It's a battlefield2 mod, removing third person was one of the first changes they made. http://www.realitymod.com I suggest people check it out if they like teamwork oriented PVP tactical shooter type games. Rocket has even mentioned it a few times in his posts here. Edit: I also believe the project reality arma2 mod disables the third person, but not 100% sure on that. -

I also prefer to playing just before midnight(before the moon rises, when it's darkest) with a flashlight. It's about the immersion for me. If I can get turned around in cherno and not know my north from south, that's fun to me. If I run straight into a zombie because I didn't see him, that's fun for me. If I have to frantically look around while walking through towns to make sure I didn't pull aggro, that's fun for me. It's not always about 100% super realistic, for me it's about the experience I get from playing the game, playing in third person just totally disconnects me from that experience. No longer do I feel like I'm being attacked, rather the character on the screen is being attacked and I have remote control of him/her. To each their own. -

I had a feeling this thread would decend into the everlasting first vesus third debate. The exploit is purposely looking over walls or around corners. Simply seeing more is not an exploit, but when you go out of your way to use a system the way it wasn't intended, that to me is exploitation. I doubt the ARMA2 developers intended you to use it in that way. The debate about field of view.... okay sure, but you know you can change that right? Not just double tapping - but also that FOV guide someone posted. And if a realistic field of view is a deal breaker for you, you could always get 3 monitors and have a rediculous field of view in front of your eyes. And then there's the white dots on the edges of your screen, which are borderline hacks. -

I've been meaning to order a track IR system, I think it will really improve the first person view, not to mention immersion. For people unfamiliar... -

Thanks for the beans guys, glad it was helpful. I used to be picky about no third person, but lately I've been trying to play DayZ as non-pvp as possible, so I couldn't care less if the guy that kills me saw me through an object or not. But, if I played vanilla Arma2 online, I sure as hell wouldn't want it enabled. -

Oh shit you think so? Damn.... guess I'd better stop enjoying it so much then. Thanks for the heads up. -
I don't like how the instant someone dies there are swarms of flies on the body. I play on an expert server with the kill messages & counters disabled, but the flies still give you that artificial confirmation that the player is dead. I suggest the flies not be present until 5 minutes after the player has died, and they start off quiet and get louder and louder the longer the body sits. If that isn't possible, I wouldn't mind no flies at all, they're nice for noticing bodies you walk by, but other than that they're just annoying and break immersion. I think we can all agree that flies don't swarm the instant someone dies in real life, so why in DayZ? It would also benefit the mod to make the flies go away when you hide the body. It's annoying to sit there and listen to flies for hours.
-
If the flies were removed entirely, the check pulse option could be added to dead bodies and then it might actually have a purpose.

No way, people would put their own survival above all else when it comes down to it. Look at the movie 28 weeks later, the dude runs out on his own wife and leaves her to be eaten by zombies. I'm not saying everyone would do that, but when your adrenaline gets pumping and instinct kicks in, survival is your only motivation. Not that any video game can recreate that instinct, but in real life people don't put anything above their own survival. Sadly in DayZ, the allure of fat loot overrides their survival instinct. For example why would someone go into the NWAF with a winchester? They already have a great weapon to protect themselves. There aren't any survival supplies at the airfield. It's a huge risk people take just to get better gear. They stop "putting themselves in the game" and start "playing the game", if you know what I mean. The scavenger hunt takes priority over safety. And for good reason, who wants to sit in a forest and eat steak and drink pond water their whole (dayz) life? What I think might really help the game, is for military loot to be as plentiful as the medical supplies at hospitals. If you venture out to the NWAF barracks and get past the zombies, you should be rewarded with more crap than you could ever hope to carry. I'm not saying 50 sets of NVGs and ghillies, those things would be like anti-biotics. But I'd love to see 3-5 ammo boxes spawning and guns galore. I feel a change like this would shift the focus away from finding cool guns and more towards working together. If everyone can put a little effort in and get the same m107 as you, the only thing better is two guys with m107s... right? More military loot would mean more reason to maintain vehicles and tents too. If you drive your truck up and load up for an hour, your group might be set for weeks. They're now free to worry about living in the apocalypse rather than farming magically appearing items.

Holy SHIT biggest fanboy war ever.
bad_mojo (DayZ) replied to omgwtfbbq (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
People are implying that no matter what the developer intends, they always focus on the console version primarily because it makes them more money. While that is true with big gaming companies, Rocket has already told us that he doesn't care about making money, he wants to see this game be made the way he envisions it. He told us about his struggle to find anyone who wanted to publish his game, and finally gave up and made the mod himself to prove to the big companies that WE want a game like this. I'm sure a console port would have dumbed down graphics and maybe less players per server or something along those lines, but I have faith it'll stay true to the DayZ experience. -

bad_mojo (DayZ) replied to omgwtfbbq (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The whole argument about it going to consoles is pointless, Rocket is making the game. Not fuckin EA or Activision. If he wants to put it on the Wii, I'm sure he'll do a bang up job of it. I have faith. -

Damn... you've got EVERYTHING figured out haven't you? LOL Yes... I will restart the server and I will make it private.....once I figure out how to get root access to their server and add myself as admin. But, let's get real, I just play the game to have fun. I care not about dying, gear or the colony compound. So yeah....nice try, but again your rant doesn't apply to me. -

I am in no way affiliated with this server or the admins. I'm simply a player who wanted to try something new. I just happened to be playing on their server prior to the colony so I noticed the server name in this thread title. Their server is one of the only expert difficulty servers with people actually playing. So by default, I am on their server for the duration. Also, please point out where I was defending them? I think I even posted that the server restart in that one video looked "fishy". So yeah, nice reply, but it doesn't apply to me at all. -

bad_mojo (DayZ) replied to hunter2123's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
LOL I can't stop laughing at the threats the colony gets. Open your eyes mistermister, they posted the location on the forums, they expect you to come attack them. I'm hoping that one day a group will take the colony and hold it. Forcing the group to move to another location. There just isn't enough of that in DayZ. Hiding someones body or dropping their gear and blowing up cars is.... something, but it's a boring something for both parties involved. What this server could use is a rival colony/gang that maintains another camp somewhere else, and then the two could raid each other. But, i guess it's more fun to campaign to get them blacklisted? Doesn't seem fun to me, but everyone is different. -

Nice, so you attempt a raid, fail, and then return later and kill two guards. What's the point of posting a video of that? There was no admin abuse. If it was so "rampant" on the server, why did you not get wrongfully banned and the server reset after you killed them? Oh right... because you play legit. -

Some Do's and Don't's about the colony. Do ---- -Walk on the road (ONLY THE ROAD) -Keep your gun down or on your back at all times. -Stand outside the gate and use voice or text chat to make contact with security -Get on teamspeak and tell security your coming Don't ------ -Check out the colony from afar -Run around anywhere in visual range of the colony -Start opening tents without permission -Spawn near the colony Doing the above will ensure you don't get killed by the security. Nothing will save you from bandits tho, so don't cry if you get shot. Also... I survived being teleported :D sucked for the rest of the server tho. -

Aeia, can you just get them blacklisted..... or shut the fuck up. I'm not trying to silence your whistle blowing, but damn you never shut up. Every second post is you bragging about your dislike and crusade to get them blacklisted. Either take the steps towards your goal, or don't. Sitting here talking about it for days is just immature. -
