Is your cdkey being wasted?
bad_mojo (DayZ) replied to bad_mojo (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I'm not saying the mod will be gone forever and anyone who plays it will be left alone in Chernarus will all the infected. Just saying that to buy Arma2 at this point in time would be a bit wasteful since the standalone is coming so soon. It's especially wasteful when talking about gifting someone a copy, I'm not made of money, I can't gift him arma2, and then DayZ standalone a month later, either he waits for standalone, or a nice person in this community decides to share. Discussing the state of the mod post standalone, is going off topic. I shouldn't have implied it would be dead. I know it won't. Edit: I'm no cheater, if you thinking I am, is stopping you from sharing a key, I can always meet up with you in-game, so you can see my account is not banned. Besides, If I wanted keys for cheating, I'd buy them for cheap on the cheater boards. That, and I probably wouldn't have over 800 posts on this forum.(A lot of which are hating on cheaters) -

It'll be "dead" to the people like me who will buy the standalone and never play the mod again. -

I might buy him the standalone, but I can't see spending $30 on a mod that won't last more than another month. Thanks for the reply, but I'd rather not get him a stolen cdkey. I try not to support the hackers/cheaters. -
Dayz game model to military sim?
bad_mojo (DayZ) replied to Simple Jack's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Turn the zombies into occupying army, and the players are the freedom fighters. PVP is rival warlords/factions. -
I think a camo sleeping bag would make it very difficult to be found. Set it up in the bushes or trees in the middle of a forest.

I see what you want, but with that system people would boost their humanity(not that they don't already) by filling tents and having a friend empty them, then repeat the process.

There's already a hunting knife you could use to open cans. -
Petition to remove Krutory Cap spawn
bad_mojo (DayZ) replied to basilone's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I've always hated that argument. Look at the shit storm of nonsense that goes on in games like BF3 and R6. That chaos is a result of the anarchy. I get the impression you think milsim players are just trying to "be like rambo" and role play some fantasy they have about being a hardcore soldier. When in reality they're mostly just trying to have fun. Chain of command and proper communications are used because they work. You can't have large groups casually chatting it up in combat. "hey, dude, you wanna maybe go down there and see if freddy is okay? he's been shot i think. No rush, but he's dying and stuff, thanks" Chain of command makes it clear who is calling the shots and who needs to shut up and do their job. I don't play Arma2 multiplayer, but I don't look down on those who do and want to follow the military way of handling things. It's a tried and true system that has worked for thousands of years. Besides, if you don't use that system, you're at a disadvantage to those that do. -
Big red button, it says "Edit", use it instead of making a new thread.

I don't think enlisting in the military will get me into a zombie apocalypse survival scenario any quicker than playing DayZ. If you can't find a campsite and sleep before leaving the game, all you have to do is be prepared with a heatpack, food and water. There used to be an ongoing hunger & thirst in dayz, people learned to adapt. The problem was there was no prevention. You would always be hungry/thirst when you came back. Also, I suggested a grace period, so if you leave the game and come back a couple hours later, you aren't punished, it's only when you leave the game for more than (for example) 8 hours that you are punished. You wouldn't even need to rely on heat packs. If you were close to a building. Just go sit in there for a minute. Or chop some wood and build a fire. Along with a canteen & knife/matches/axe you wouldn't have any problems dealing with such a minor punishment. Maybe they could code it so leaving while inside a building keeps you warm but you still get hit with hunger/thirst, unless you setup camp inside the building.

Yeah, there are a few different ideas floating around. The 5 hour body remains after sleeping was just a number I pulled out of my ass to be honest, it could be 5-10minutes. Whatever works. The problem with my body remaining in the world idea, is what is the punishment for just alt-f4'ing? Death seems too harsh, but if they alt-f4 they are not at any risk after leaving. So it would have to be enough punishment to encourage taking that risk, but not so much that if someone doesn't have time, they can still recover from a bad nights sleep. I think the idea of just sleeping (without your body staying in the world) is the best thing to start with. Hunger, thirst, & temperature could be the punishments for not setting up camp. Because realistically if you just slept on the ground somewhere, your body has to burn more food/water in order to avoid hypothermia. It would basically be like the old hunger system, except there would be a way to avoid it. I think with sleeping there could be more shelter options. A sleeping bag could be a tool on your belt, and it'll keep you warm but you still wake up thirsty. And then maybe a tarp item that you can deploy and add wood piles to it and craft a shelter which keeps you perfect. Along with the already present tent that people could select an option to "Enter and sleep", it would also keep you perfect during the night. Edit: maybe even work in the fire, so if you're in close proximity to a fire when you sleep(logoff) it keeps you warm?

If you can't play dayz 24/7 then you should go back to call of duty. This isn't a game, it's a lifestyle. You scrubs are weak, with your pitiful jobs, families and priorities. Pfft, get a clue, playing video games at all times is the good life. /sarcasm Seriously tho, what if your sleeping only affected your temperature upon login. So if you slept in a sleeping bag you're normal, but if you just logged off randomly, you need to buid a fire or use a heatpack to warm up. But, if you came back in less than 5 hours you wouldn't be cold, so random disconnections won't freeze you.

I notice Rocket constantly mentioning Reddit any time he talks about player feedback/suggestions. -Why do you think he likes reddit so much? -Am I missing out on some important DayZ discussions not being on that site? -Does that mean he doesn't pay much attention to these forums anymore? I've never used reddit, it seems too disorganized for my taste, and I don't really have time for yet another discussion board. I'm just curious what the draw is, if it's the format, the people, the lack of certain people...something.

Make zombies Randomly Kill in 1 Hit
bad_mojo (DayZ) replied to Drew1231's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Yes, I think it should be that high. Anything below perfect in my mind is injured. You can't just ignore an injury and then cry when you get killed because of it. It's like the people who complain about having to crawl kilometers because they weren't carrying morphine. The game should not be changed to suit laziness. Don't get hit by zombies, and when you inevitably do, fix your shit. -
So much hate and personal insults. I love it. I really wish people would read the whole thread tho. I guess I should edit the OP now.

Fair enough. Also, http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/2533-rocket-an-m1-garand-ill-do-the-work/

If that doesn't cover what you're implying, then what are you implying? Why would an infrequent gamer be at a disadvantage?
-
Perhaps your location and server would help people help you. That, or get you killed faster. I usually have an epi-pen on me, if you are near the coast I might be able to lend a hand.
-
Pretty sure the US military replaced the M1 with the M14/DMR. So....why would they bring antiques to fight zombies? Why would an old US made rifle be in Russia?
-
Did you even read the whole thread? Can you elaborate on who this wouldn't be playable for and why?

Petition to remove Krutory Cap spawn
bad_mojo (DayZ) replied to basilone's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
The sad part, is in the time it takes someone to run to a lighthouse climb a ladder and jump to his prolonged death, and then wait some more for the server to load and spawn them in again, they could have ran to elecktro. But, I don't care, because I know they might spawn somewhere like Kamenka and have to start the whole process over. It just means more free bandages & painkillers laying around for the rest of us! -
Sorry, I misread your comments about the 10 hours thing, I even realized I misunderstood you shortly after I responded, but I wasn't near the computer until now. While I understand what you're saying, I think a system like that wouldn't be intuitive for the user, it would require a countdown timer or something like that. And ultimately it would be boring when you have to sleep. Who wants to spend their gaming time watching a character sleep? I'm not sure where you got the idea that I wanted people to log on and feed their character when not playing. That's not at all what I suggested. I did mention that type of system used to be part of DayZ. But, my suggestion was to punish people who didn't sleep properly with hunger, thirst etc. WHEN THEY RETURN. When I first started playing DayZ, your hunger would continue after you logged off. BUT, it would only drain to flashing, you couldn't actually die while offline. This was easy to fix by keeping food and water on you when you logged off. So you logged on to see flashing hunger and thirst and simply had to eat and drink and then you were good to go. Going back to my suggestion, I thought maybe that hunger (until flashing) system could be incorporated into the sleep mechanic, and depending on the quality of your sleep you would be punished accordingly. I am in no way suggesting people who can't play everyday, twice a day, or whatever, be punished with death. I suggested having your body remain in the world for a duration(~8hrs) in which time someone could walk up and kill you. This would mean it's the same vulnerability duration if you leave for 8hrs (to sleep in real life) or a week. When you decide to log off, you have to find a place that will be safe for the next 8 hours, if you decide the server you're in is too populated, you could join a low population server and sleep there. I didn't mention this because that is how it should be done, I mentioned it because that is exactly what a lot of people do with tents to avoid them being discovered & raided. It's an example of how playing it smart can prevent your death. You could also run outside the map and sleep there, or take you chances and sleep in the bushes outside of elecktro. -- I can't stress this enough, I am only suggesting sleeping, my ideas on how it can be implemented are not set in stone, ultimately it's up to Rocket and the other developers anyway, so there is really no need to get worked up because you think the punishment I suggest is too harsh or there's a flaw I didn't take into consideration, suggest something better! I'm just brain storming here, we all want DayZ to improve.

A similar system can't be applied to these forums?
-
I'm asking why it's a good place. What are the factors that make it the best choice?
-
I'm completely calm, just wanted to further discuss their thoughts on this subject. As per your suggestions, well after playing for 10 hours the players are tired and experiencing fatigue themselves. So I find it rather pointless to simulate this in-game. I don't really understand how having to sleep in a good spot will mean DayZ is the focus of the players life. Wouldn't it be the focus of the players last bit of play time? If they know they'll be getting off DayZ shortly, they'll have to find a suitable camp site, the next 8 hours are up to luck & good planning. Having the time low (15minute suggestion) wouldn't work, because then people would just camp anywhere. The chances of someone stumbling onto you in 15minutes is pretty slim even in some of the most populated areas.
