I have my doubts that a person could fashion a useable crossbow bolt out of sticks in a forest. If it was a basic bow or something simple, sure, but it's a compound crossbow. from wikipedias compound bow article... Edit: I do like the idea tho, I just think another bow could be added in order to use the arrows. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7GwJudQdsMY

Next time you run into another player, stick with him, now you have someone to chat with while running around Chernarus.

Calling "friendly!" in towns
bad_mojo (DayZ) replied to flether's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I've started just saying "Hello" to people. in a calm friendly voice. I find some people take calling "friendly" as a sign of weakness. Where as when you just greet them, it throws them off and lets them know you're not scared or weak. Some people will respond better when you show them you had the upper hand. When someone doesn't see you, and you make the effort to approach them and talk, they know you had a chance to easily kill them outright. So, they're more likely to trust you. It also helps to read body language. When I see someone in a city I'll get close enough to talk (staying hidden/behind cover) and say hello, if they don't respond and start looking around with gun at the ready, or even worse drop down or take cover, I turn tail and run. If they come out of cover and look for you, Or respond with voice or text, I usually approach them with my weapon lowered or holstered. Also, worth mentioning that military spawns (barracks, fire stations, air towers) are the worst possible spot to run into another player. I've started avoiding these places because it seems like even the more friendly players are paranoid enough to kill anyone they see. If you see someone there, maybe wait until they leave that building before approaching them. -
I honestly feel like finding a tent full of duped gear and bringing 15 sachels into 1993 and getting banned. Then posting the video on youtube so everyone can see this abusive admin. I've never been an admin, or looked at logs, but it's pretty black and white that he brought in 3 sachels in his main inventory and 12 in his backpack. I'm not going to say the OP handled his ban in the best way possible, he should have tried to keep calm and civilized. But, I don't blame him for losing his cool when you look at how the OCN guys responded. Being told over and over to "drop it and find another server" is fucking retarded, they submitted him to the CBL, there aren't that many populated main hive servers left, it's not like 1993 &1992 are just a drop in the pond of servers. Your servers aren't your private little playground where you set the rules, you're running PUBLIC hive servers. Please OCN, just make your servers private hives and leave the public hive to the decent admins. OP, keep up the fight, those of us with eyes can clearly see you're in the right. I won't be going back to 1992 or 1993 for a long time, if ever, and they were two of my regular servers. I'd rather have hackers than overbearing incompetent administration. Saw lots of hacking on 1993 last night, but yeah, THIS GUY gets banned for using sachels. Classy.

I used to do manual installs and used the in-game server browser, but I tried DayZ commander this week and it has won me over. If you have any more problems with six, give it a try.

Fixing what my boy has undone~
bad_mojo (DayZ) replied to waszak1977's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Really? I thought the humanity level was tied to your cdkey/guid and stored on the hive. Was I mistaken? Edit: In fact I've formatted my PC recently and kept my hero skin, so......seems like I wasn't mistaken. -
Are low value loot spawns worth looking in?
bad_mojo (DayZ) replied to thezoq2's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
When I need everything, I check everything except the dog houses since they are usually glitched. Otherwise I target only specific spots to find what I need. Those small green/red square buildings are a great place to find good loot, it seems like nobody even checks them. There's only 1 lott pile, but I've found lots of Alice packs and even a couple Coyote packs. -

bad_mojo (DayZ) replied to waszak1977's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
You could find someone to boost your humanity. It's an exploitation of the game, but it will get the job done. You get someone to go to the hospital with you, shoot them in the foot and treat their wounds. Then repeat the process until you're back to 0. You could keep going until you're a hero, but that's going too far IMO. If you can't find anyone to be the patient, PM me I might be able to help. -
Please...just...add the ability to eat and drink etc in cars again.
bad_mojo (DayZ) replied to Slyguy65's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Opening up your inventory and right clicking a can of beans while driving 80mph wouldn't exactly be the easiest thing to do. It was more of a passenger thing to do. But, if the duping isn't fixed, I say keep these minor features removed until it is. -
I wanted to discuss some of the bugs present in the DayZ mod and their effects on gameplay. I'm wondering what everything thinks of these things and should their effects be kept in standalone/future versions. -Zig zagging zombies - We've all noticed how the zombies don't run in a straight line at you. This is because they're infantry as far as the engine is concerned and in Arma the infantry to try flank you. Effect: It makes the zombies much harder to hit with bullets. Or at least harder to land accurate shots. -Zombies walk indoors - When the zombies have to walk on a surface that isn't terrain they are forced to walk slow. I've heard this is because the Arma has no physX support or something like that. Never the less, it's an engine thing. Effect: It makes the game extremely easy once you learn the layout of the map and know which buildings/structures are best used to your advantage. -Zombies glitch through walls/floors/stairs or even through your swinging axe - When a zombie is trying to attack you, it sometimes ignores objects between you. They sometimes warp through surfaces (stairs in the apartments for example) and pop up in your face. Also, they tend to ignore being hit and continue to attack even after being hit and killed. Effect: You can't trust an object to keep you safe from zombies. You have to keep your distance from walls and avoid certain areas all together. When axing zombies, you have to keep stocked up on bandages, pain killers and blood because you get hit a lot. -Zombies only spawn right next to players - When you see zombies in the distance, there is or was a player in that area. Effect: People look for swarms of zombies to find players. At the same time, people avoid swarms of zombies in fear of players. Vehicles don't spawn them, so a car or helicopter passing by will know where the players are. -Loot only spawns when the loot pile is empty - If you leave a tin can on a loot pile, it will remain a tin can forever, no other loot will spawn. Effect: Less loot because people leave the trash. But, it also allows you to exploit the mechanic and farm loot piles in one location. ------ I think some of these bugs are worth keeping the effects of. For example, the zombies being harder to hit because they flank you makes it harder to engage a group of zombies in the open. You are better off waiting until they are right in front of you. But, I think other bugs like the zombies walking indoors really messes up the whole game. It's not like we can decide not to use that exploit to our advantage. Buildings are everywhere, and it's normal to run to a choke point when being chased by a hoard of zombies. Usually the only choke points around are doorways. Making zombies be able to sprint indoor would really shake up the DayZ gameplay, and I think it needs it.

So what is special about namalsk
bad_mojo (DayZ) replied to Slyguy65's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Funny, I had the complete opposite experience in Namalsk. Maybe I need to give it another try. -
Yeah, my mistake I see the post now. I don't know how I missed it the first time. Sorry.

So what is special about namalsk
bad_mojo (DayZ) replied to Slyguy65's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
To me, Namalsk felt like COD for DayZ. Military loot was EVERYWHERE and everyone was hostile. I was shot twice before finally being killed, got shot at and had to run about 5 other times. Not my thing, but to each their own. The actual map looked nice tho. -
I don't understand how the death bans would make that problem any worse. Mass teleporting and nuking servers gets a response out of people, they freak out and scream over the chat. Killing someone who then gets banned is just playing the game. Who cares if some people get their jollies out of knowing people have to join another server, it's not like the one being killed is any more pissed off, he knew what he was getting into the minute he joined such a server. I dunno, maybe I'm not seeing it clearly. They're being used because DayZ is an Arma2 mod and Arma2 comes standard with those options. From the Rocket Q&A... My point is that features aren't being kept because they're popular. At the same time, potential features shouldn't be ignore just because the majority dislikes the idea.
-
The majority of DayZ players like name tags, side-chat and crosshairs, does that make those things the best options for DayZ? Do you think rocket will enforce those things on us in standalone? Let's just throw out some suggestions, discuss them, and then let Rocket and his team decide what should or shouldn't be added. There's really no need to get all upset over the possibility of something being added that you dislike.

Seriously? You created that whole situation in your head. The OP has been completely civil in all of his posts. He made a joke about the negative replies being the same people who KOS, OH NO! You on the other hand made a negative reply with absolutly no reasoning behind it. Perhaps you think it's "very obvious" why this wouldn't be a good change, but open your fucking mouth and let the rest of us know what you're thinking. You clearly don't understand how douchy it looks to say "NO that idea sucks!" and add nothing else to the discussion. -------------- @OP Don't get discouraged with these replies, they all just voice their fear of a change like this. It's not a bad idea, it's just a bad idea TO THEM. Not everyone likes an extremely punishing and hardcore set of rules, but some of us do. @Smash_AU Why would people camp the spawn points to kill an unarmed person and play on a server with less people? You imply that removing someone from a server just for the sake of removing someone from the server, is desirable. Perhaps this would be true to some, but I don't really see people camping spawn points for hours to remove a couple people. Even if this did mean more people spawn camping, that seems like incentive for me to play better. It's not like there is only 1 spawn point. @WarZ doing this... yes and no. They did intend to lock out the player for 24 hours, but changed it to 1 hour. BUT, they locked out your character, and you get 5(?) or so. The OPs idea was to lock you out of 1 server. NOT ALL OF THEM.

Can dogs (when the patch is out) get into cars?
bad_mojo (DayZ) replied to Tyler_Sharp's topic in New Player Discussion
I think the real question is.. can they get into cars in arma? -
I'd suggest a 1 week ban when you are killed. It would have to be a private hive tho, couldn't have people getting geared up regular and then hopping onto the hardcore server. Mass killings could pose a problem, but they already pose a fucking problem. No need to change the game to cope with em.

Are you a heavy machine gunner and want one??
bad_mojo (DayZ) replied to wolfstriked's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
From the title I thought this was going to be about adding heavy machine guns, as opposed to the light machine guns we have currently. I think it'd be a nice addition, make the tripod go in your primary slot and have to be setup, then you pull your machine gun out of your pack and set it up on the tripod. OR force it to be a two player weapon, where one person carries the tripod and ammo while the other player carries the weapon. But, on topic, I do no support making LMGs more common. It will just make finding them less special. -
This might sound strange, but ignore the guns for a while. Try playing with just a hatchet and flashlight (keeping your flashlight out at all times, using hatchet if you get cornered by zombies) it's actually amazing how much people respond to someone who poses little or no threat to them. Toggle direct chat on at all times, and don't be afraid to make noise, before you enter a building, call out, if you see someone, tell them you're friendly ASAP. If you want to spice things up, find a really nice primary weapon and give it a new spawn and see if they kill you with it. Or fill your backpack with hatchets and hand them out. One thing I didn't like after playing DayZ for a while was the "mission" feeling I always had when playing. I had to get this, I had to get that, then I had to stay hidden, had to stay away from this or that, couldn't approach people for fear of death, etc, etc. I felt like my goals in the game were too artificial and forced. These days I let the DayZ world carry me wherever it wants. I go with the flow and accept whatever comes of it. I still act like the world is real, I run from danger and do what I need to survive. But, I've forced myself to stop doing things because I know it's a game. Like when I started playing, running around Cherno/Elecktro in daylight was my worst nightmare, these days it's my daily routine. Or when I started I would HAVE to find a decent weapon before I would feel like my game had begun. It was stupid, I was sabotaging my own fun by expecting certain things to happen. I've now learned to have fun by just letting things happen on their own.

Have you stopped playing the mod? Hackers too much? Tired of no updates? Waiting for standalone? Then donate your key to someone who will put it to good use. My friend is tight on cash at the moment, but he really wants to give DayZ a try. I was going to let him use my cdkey, since I only play it about once a week these days, but it would be great if I could show him the ropes and help him get started in DayZ. But, that wouldn't be possible if we both used the same key. So, I figured I'd throw it out there, to see if anyone isn't using theirs anymore and wouldn't mind sharing? I wouldn't ask if the situation wasn't like it is. I know there's a lot of people who bought Arma2+OA solely for DayZ and now they've stopped playing. Buying Arma2+OA for DayZ at this point seems kind of silly, paying $30 for a mod that isn't getting updated, and is going standalone in about a month. I figured I'd get him hooked on the mod and by the time standalone comes out he'll be.... one of us.

Is your cdkey being wasted?
bad_mojo (DayZ) replied to bad_mojo (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
People who are not playing the mod anymore still view the forums. To give their feedback about why they stopped playing or to discuss the standalone. If your cd key is NOT being wasted, move along, nothing to see here. -

I didn't want to get into making deals on a game forum, it leaves me wide open to being ripped off. But, If you are selling one on ebay or something reputable for cheap, PM me the link and I might buy it. -

Sostronk, your posts are always so horrible. Every time I read one of your posts, I can't help but feel like you're just an obvious troll. I already said why I won't be buying him a stolen cd key. If you cared, you might have read the replies already. -
Is your cdkey being wasted?
bad_mojo (DayZ) replied to bad_mojo (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I'm not expecting someone else to buy him the game. I know for a fact there aren't 1,000,000 players still playing DayZ, and I also understand that a significant portion of the DayZ players don't play Arma2. So, instead of letting a cdkey go to waste, perhaps someone would enjoy knowing that another person is getting some enjoyment out of their left overs. I'm not expecting anything here, I know people play arma2, and I know some people will want to keep their key just in case a new arma2 mod comes out or DayZ gets updated. That's fine, like I said I'm not expecting anything here. It doesn't hurt to ask... does it? I'd put money on the fact that there are plenty of keys being wasted out there. Thanks for the Arma free suggestion (& beans :D) but I'll probably end up giving him my cdkey if I can't get another. It just sucks because then I can't watch him die over and over as a noob.
