Feedback on status of infectious diseases in DayZ
bad_mojo (DayZ) replied to rocket's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Amputation. You can survive some of those diseases but lose limbs in the process. Will this be a factor? -Wheel chairs, crutches. -Restricted to one hand(sidearms only) if you lose a hand/arm. -Can't use backpack if you lose a leg. it's in walking dead... -
Do custom servers make a good sandbox?
bad_mojo (DayZ) replied to bad_mojo (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Are you sure about that? I would guess that the private hive population out numbers the official hive at this point, I don't really know how to check the numbers for sure, but just a quick look in DayZ commander shows less than a page of fullish official servers, but add in the private ones and there's about 2 more pages of populated servers. -
Do custom servers make a good sandbox?
bad_mojo (DayZ) replied to bad_mojo (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
There was a huge uproar when the makarov was removed from starting gear, if there were custom servers back then I fear the majority of players would have flocked to one that kept the makarov. Eventually tho, the majority saw the value of having no starting weapon, it just took that being thrust into a situation they didn't think they'd like to see it worked. I bet a year ago, a lot of DayZ players wouldn't have believed that they'd be playing a game where it takes hours to get your gear and only a split second to lose it all to a snot nosed COD kiddie with a bigass sniper rifle. But, they tried something new and loved it. Point is, people don't know what they want, so leaving it up to a large group is not the way to improve a game. Rocket is our visionary, we are his lab rats. -
I don't have a head ache.

Standalone Poll: First Person Only?
bad_mojo (DayZ) replied to Trizzo's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
It'll be amazing if they removed it in standalone, not because I prefer first person, but because there'll be no end to the crying on the forums. It'll be like when the Makarov was removed, except x1000. -
Trial and error works every time. It's not like every DayZ player would know how to operate it properly inside arma anyway, so it's all realistic and shit. Agreed on the suggestion, I think it was the first thing I suggested when I joined these forums.... those damn helicopters think they're immune with their m240's.

Do custom servers make a good sandbox?
bad_mojo (DayZ) replied to bad_mojo (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
What about a server that bans people for killing players? Or a server that publicly announces who killed who. Exactly. There are good servers out there that are making DayZ better. But, who defines "better" or "adding to it"? Who polices the servers to ensure asshat admins aren't abusing their power to change the game? It's a big grey area that is wide open to misinterpretation. -

Do you not see the irony in your post? Server admin doesn't like the "night" feature in DayZ, so he forces "his" play style on everyone in the server with a 24/7 daylight mod. Instead of telling people to get their own server and set it up with night, perhaps we should be telling you guys to create your own arma2 mod if you don't want night. Of course I won't, because Rocket was nice enough to let you modify his. But, the standard arguments given in this type of discussion are so ignorant to anything except the posters desires.

I find it's more fun to roll the dice and play the hand you're dealt. You might get killed a lot, but you have a lot of fun in the process. Think of it this way, some guy who's spent a good week gathering all the best crap in the game comes and camps a popular spot. I run in without a care in the world, 5 minutes after spawning. He tries to kill me with his uber sniper rifle and might miss. But, either way he alerts the local bandits who run up there to hunt him down. While I get a bit of adrenaline from being sniped at. I just don't see the payoff from staying alive for a long time. It seems like a lot of boring gameplay just to get some above average gear that might mean nothing when the end comes for you. I'd rather live for a week because the situations I faced ended up in my favor, not because I hid in the areas with no players.

In regular DayZ if you're cold and shaking you can stay in a building for a while and warm up, I've been sitting in a building for a few minutes on Namalsk and I'm still shaking. Is it the map or am I missing something? Edit: I already used painkillers.

Axe/Hatchet the best weapon ever?
bad_mojo (DayZ) replied to OrLoK's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I love it because it allows me to give away my primary weapon to randoms and still have something left for myself. It's also nice that you can store 1 axe per slot in your backpack. -
You can double tap the caps lock to toggle voice chat on, no need to hold the button.

Namalsk buildings are cold?

Thanks, it was dark so that's good to know. -
Suspicions aren't evidence. Public Hive rules are pretty clear. 12+3 > 4

24/7 Daylight Servers... UGH?
bad_mojo (DayZ) replied to Jεricho's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Maybe the people discussing nights being black will care what settings I use? I don't know. Probably not. I was just making a point that I don't crank up the gamma all the way in order to see outlines. In fact cranking up the gamma all the way is almost as good as night vision. I don't exactly want to 'take away' the private hives ability to modify the game. I think it's a trend that should not continue in the standalone. I think it was the wrong direction for rocket to go in the mod for many reasons. Can you not see the negatives in letting people modify a 'game' that's this early in development? Especially a game with such a controversial difficulty to it? If DayZ was done development and had a retail version out, I would totoally support private hives. But, to take a game in another direction this early in the games life isn't going to end well for either the game or the players. I'm pretty surprised by the outrage here when I even suggest that DayZ be locked down. 90% of games on the market have 0 mod'ability, and few people complain about that. But, take away a feature provided by a good developer and people will flip out. -
24/7 Daylight Servers... UGH?
bad_mojo (DayZ) replied to Jεricho's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Honestly, in this case, I feel it's bad because people want to make DayZ easier. Which undermines the whole idea behind it. Show me one example of someone making dayz more difficult by modifying their server.(Different maps don't exactly count) I'm just saying if you can't see a tree in front of you, either it's just a really dark (time of) night. Or your settings aren't correct. When I join a night time server, I bump up the gamma from 1.0 to 1.2 sometimes 1.3. I can play just fine during the day at that setting, but I prefer it a bit darker for the sake of my eyes. -

24/7 Daylight Servers... UGH?
bad_mojo (DayZ) replied to Jεricho's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Free mod doesn't have to mean open to modification. Plenty of free mods restrict people from modifying them in order to protect the integrity of the game. DayZ mod was like that at the start, but sadly after hacking became such a huge problem Rocket didn't stop people from modifying his game. I just hope this isn't the start of a trend and SA becomes locked down again. -

Servers lacking people, where's vanilla?

There are at least 5 full US vanilla servers at most times. DayZCommander will help. -
24/7 Daylight Servers... UGH?
bad_mojo (DayZ) replied to Jεricho's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Crazy, I must have an uncommonly good setup because I can always increase the gamma to see outlines. It's certainly not to the effect it had before the patch, but I've never had trouble navigating in Arma2. In fact I regularly set it lower because it seems too easy to see. That, and I use a flashlight & chemlight when it's dark. As for the whole "they pay for the server so they can do as they want" idea. I disagree because it sets a prescedent for the future. What happens when rocket implements some features some people dislike? I've already seen servers that give you a rediculous amount of starting gear. It undermines the whole premise of the game to make some of these modifications. While 24/7 sun might not have a huge effect on the integrity of DayZ, it's the principal more than anything that bothers me about this. The fact is DayZ mod is built on an extremely accessible engine, this whole "they can do what they want with their server" isn't as simple as that. If this was a game like BF3, sure I'd agree, they can set it up however they want. Because that game is restricted. DayZ mod is completely open to modification. So basically what people are saying is "People can take DayZ and modify it anyway they see fit" which I disagree is a good attitude for the DayZ community. -
Would you quit if servers went expert?
bad_mojo (DayZ) replied to bad_mojo (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Except this isn't a suggestion thread, it's a question about how you would react if they did that.
