    an idea to solve the PVP fiasco

    It's an interesting concept. I'm against stopping player killing, but this could be interesting if done correctly. I could see a few people killing players just so they could feel the effects. Perhaps it should be done on a time limit. So for example, to get the paranoia effects, you have to kill 5000 points worth of people in a couple hours. Bandits would be the lowest value, 1000, survivors 2500 and heros 3000. So, if a player kills enough people to get 5000 paranoia points, they get these effects for an hour or so.

    I decided to start uploading my gameplay videos raw and uncut. I'm going to try and capture everything from the second I log in until I log out for the night. I'm sure regular players will find it long and boring with a few interesting parts scattered throughout, but a few people might enjoy watching the entire thing. A few things to note.. -I play as a hero, I rarely kill people. Usually run away from danger. -I play almost exclusively on the main hive servers. The Chernarus map, lately US303. -I play solo all the time, but I'm usually on a mission to team up with randoms. -I stay along the coast most of the time, unless someone wants to go inland. -I don't talk to the camera/audience. (might mutter to myself from time to time tho) -I leave the microphone on at all times, if I cough, scream, breath heavy or laugh, people hear me in-game. Enjoy... Second video is up...

    The little military base with the 4 towers on the coast has a tent with a red cross on the top, it would be a perfect spot for one or two medical boxes to spawn. I know the hospital in Cherno is a only few minutes walk, but it's a matter of finding the loot where it'd logically be.

    One time I was in Berezino at the military tents, walked into the first with a m1911, swapped it out for the G17, next tent had a m9sd, and the third had a PDW. I thought it was funny because every tent I went into I swapped my pistol for a "better" one. (I know the m1911 is better than g17, but not when it gets dark. And the m9sd is better than a PDW when you're worried about people hearing you, but I don't care and I like the larger magazines in the PDW, and it takes the m9sd mags, and I already had an mp5 mag as well.)

  8. US303 isn't perfect, but it's been weeks since I've been teleported. The admin is very active.

    Not at all, I asked because in the main game it has been removed. You're saying you left it in because vehicles are impossible to hide anyway?

    Awesome! I had a lot of problems finding a good Namalsk server with settings I like, and people actually playing, but that sounds perfect.

    One thing I always disliked about it being in Russian was the names on the (in-game) map are written in the standard english alphabet, but the road sings are all in the weird Russian characters. Basically, whats on the sign, ain't on your map. Edit: this... http://i.imgur.com/E6AYF.jpg

    I always expect to die when I hang around Elecktro. But, I enjoy the suspense of never knowing when or how it'll happen. I might give your server a try. Hope my ping isn't too high. I really like the settings, expert with no 3rd person. Should make it tense, especially since I don't know the map very well. I just wish there was more people, maybe when it's not so late in the UK it'll populate. I don't mind if you look for me, I just don't like the "meet at X and we'll team up" plans. I'd rather just survive first and foremost, and team up with someone if we run into each other. Tho, to be honest, I've never met anyone in Namalsk that hasn't tried to kill me.

    I noticed the radar on the helicopter. Doesn't that allow people to track down every vehicle on the map?

    Performance idea

    On youtube I'm subscribed to a few people from the Arma2 community ShackTactical, anyway, they've started using this "headless client" technique where AI processing is done in another process so the server process doesn't get bogged down. This got me thinking about how DayZ does its AI and the effects that has on our CPUs. In DayZ, the player closest to the spawning zombies handles the computations for them. So if you walk into Cherno and zombies spawn, your CPU is working to make them do their thing. Obviously this means the more zombies around, the more your CPU has to work, and the less frames per second you're likely to get as a result. From my understanding, this is why I get ~30 fps in dayz, but WAY higher in normal arma2. So... my idea is a little complex. But, essentially the map would be divided up into chunks, and each chunk would contain the same number of zombies. For the sake of this post I'll say split the map into 4 quarters, and there's a possible 1000 zombies per quarter. Instead of having the players do the computations for the zombies, another server (or another process on the same server) would do them. This would allow a collection of servers to run 1 map with more players and more zombies. Of course there is logistical problems with a system like this, not everyone could afford to buy multiple physical servers in order to run one game server. But, I think if the end result benefits the game and players, this might be something worth doing. (Sorry if I'm wrong about anything in my post, I have no experience with Arma2 servers so this might be impossible for all I know. I just wanted to throw it out there for the more experienced people to see.)

    Feedback on status of infectious diseases in DayZ

    What would the effects be on the player? The current sick that slowly drains blood doesn't exactly immerse me into that feeling of being deathly ill. I'm thinking impaired vision and mobility in the later stages? Increased hunger/thirst. Lose the use of limbs, stuff like that.
  23. "Play it the way you want" is something that gets thrown around these forums on a daily basis. But, doesn't allowing the server admins to set the rules, go against that ideology? How can someone play it the way they want if the server admin sets up the sandbox in a way that conflicts with his play style? Perhaps private/custom servers could be removed from the server directory and they can advertise their IP here on the forums, so people seeking those can still get in them, but the new players aren't expected to navigate a clusterfuck of different server settings? Just an idea. (I know, dayz commander is great) Really, I'd like to know what the general consensus is on this. Not weather or not you think custom servers are fun for you as a player, but do you think custom servers are good for DayZ as a game/community.

    Sadly no. There's a thread around somewhere about it. In the end it came down to pissed off people ddos'ing the server. The hosting company stopped service. The controversy was about unfair banning and the admin restarting the server at strategic times.
