    Gimp pistols

Perhaps, but he's so damn passionate about it, I figured he was serious.

    Gimp pistols

What I'm still confused about.... why? Why should they be removed? Why should the best pistols be the only pistols? It makes no sense.

    Yeah.... okay.

    Gimp pistols

I'm talking about a server with a population. Of course if you're always the first one to a loot spawn, they'll be the same rarity. But, when people are looting before you and see two items that are almost the same, but one is slightly better, they're going to take the better one and leave the lesser. Therefore there's going to be less of the favorable one sitting and more of the less favorable one laying around. Especially since people will swap out the lesser when they find the better.

More things in the loot table makes the better things rarer.

    Sitting visible

The sitting down animation should be the same visibility as crouching. Right now it's no different than standing. That is all.

    Ghillie Suit removes backpack

Add a ghillied backpack version for every pack. When you put on a ghille you still have a big bulging pack, but it matches your suit. If you want a smaller profile, drop the pack.

So...How long until a DayZ ARMA 3 port?

Honestly, I would take a game with vision over a game where everyone gets a say. We've had plenty of games that try to be everything to everyone. If you're not looking for DayZ (and clearly you're not) then of course you'll prefer the highly mod'able Arma. I really don't see your point here, people are carrying on about the standalone being miles beyond a mod because frankly, it will be. BUT ONLY IF YOUR LOOKING TO PLAY DAYZ & ONLY DAYZ. Which a lot of us are. (We have Arma3 for everything else)

Hard Coded View Distance in the DayZ Mod?

I've heard in DayZ the view distance is weather dependent.

    Standalone Zombies a bit OTT?

I like how just the notion of fixing the zombies have people whining for a nerf. How about we wait until we see them in game before we discuss how easy you want this game to be?

    Starting Gear.. sucks.

The main hive servers are a pure dayz experience. Just click "Hide Unoffical" in DayZ commander.
  13. Imagine battleye was effective from the start, and hacking didn't get out of hand. Do you think Rocket still would/should have allowed private hives? Should he continue to allow private hives in standalone, even if hacking is minimal? (Sorry if this is considered private hive discussion, move it if needed. I felt it was more general.)

Would private hives exist without hackers?

To me that seems like a terrible way of preventing combat logging. As someone who likes the idea of a main hive, it feels like I'm being punished and my game is being ruined just to make it a bit more difficult for combat loggers. Basically, what you say is true, but I hope it's not the motivation for keeping private hives. Thanks for the info, got a link to this conference? Yeah, it was more of a hypothetical question. I know people will always be able to do whatever they want with the MOD. I was more interested in what the community thought should be done. Would private hives (without the hacking issue) be beneficial to the game? In the standalone when there is more control, will private hives be there just because people are so used to them? Do people want a main hive anymore? I watched it all go down, from DayZ single player being taboo, to Rocket fully supporting private hives in the aftermath of all the hacking & ddos attacks on the main hive. I can't help but feel like Rocket was forced into allowing private hives and probably doesn't actually want them to be part of DayZ. But, we all know if he came out and said as much, there would be uproar from the community since private hives ARE dayz to some people. Maybe I'm totally off the mark, but that's why I made this thread, to get opinions of those who haven't been around since day 0. Good point, but at the same time I kind of disagree. I believe DayZ should be a place where your actions have consequences. I don't want people to act like a dick because they're not on their favorite server.

    DayZ Developer Blog 8th March

I like the idea of fingerprints. That satisfying feeling when you match the prints of a dead bandit to the ones you pulled off your raided camp, or murdered friend. I wish we could find shell casing on the ground, but I'm sure that would be a performance issue.
  17. If you only go to Cherno/Elecktro, how do you know nobody goes anywhere else? Perhaps all the careless players go to those two cities and all the stealthy ones go inland, you just never see the stealthy ones and always see the careless ones. Also, the proximity to the spawn points & abundance of gear spawns play a huge part in why people frequent the two major coastal cities.
  18. Well, that was 15mins I should have spent sleeping.

Wait.... you mean Arma3 isn't DayZ standalone alpha? No wonder it was so easy to survive last night.

    Zombie screams

One thing that bugs me when I play the MOD is the sound zombies make when aggravated. It feels like there's only about two(if any) variations of that sound. For the standalone, (and maybe even mod) I feel like there should be lots of variations of each zombie sound. I'm not totally against an audio cue for players to indicate zombies have been startled, but the repetitive scream every time I aggro a zombie has started to (dare I say it) break my immersion. It's like that windows error beep, after a while just hearing the sound starts to piss you off, because you have negative feelings associated with it. I should be avoiding zombies because they want to kill me, not because I'm annoyed by the repetitive nature of their limited vocabulary.

Emetophobia - Will I have problems?

Here's an idea, don't get sick (in-game) and you won't have to watch yourself vomit. If you do catch something, suicide. If you run into someone who is sick and might vomit in front of you.... ask them to leave or just kill them. The game could be more intense for you, because there are real life consequences if you slip up and see someone vomit.

    DayZ Devblog 15th February 2013

Agreed there should be a way to cancel your action, but I also don't want to see DayZ adapt a quick swap 'on the fly' type of system we have going on in other video games. Unless you've got your binoculars slung around your neck you should have to stop & take off your pack, open it and then pull them out. I always looked at having to stop in the mod as taking time to unpack an item. In the standalone I hope to see a system where packed items still require you to stop and unpack it, while something like binoculars around your neck wouldn't require the stop, but they would be visible to other players and take up valuable space that could be used for other quick use items.(medical supplies for a medic, for example) Different clothing like tactical vests would of course mean more slots for quick use items.

In the video Rocket implied there would be dev blog videos every monday. Did I read too far into his comments? It's tuesday and still no new blog.

    Stockpiled weapons

Something that has always kind of bothered me about the mod is the military equipment and how it is distributed. Realistically if there was a zombie apocalypse you could walk into a military base and find more stuff than you could ever possibly hope to carry. There would be rifles and ammo stock piled. Some of the rarer stuff like machine guns and sniper rifles would be taken quickly by looters, but chances are good that you're going to at least find an m16/m4 type assault rifle, it may be lacking the ammo & magazine, but still a rifle. I mean, why would a group take 5 identical rifles each, right? So, why isn't this done in DayZ? I'm not talking about the fire halls & military tents, I'm only talking about established military installations like the NWAF barracks & maybe the Balota medical base(might be too close to spawn). Places like those should have excessive amounts of military gear. More than even a group could possibly carry. Again, I'm not saying every weapon and ammo type, just a nice stockpile of m4/m16 & ak varients. It's done in a similar fashion for medical supplies. I've yet to ever see a hospital without some supplies left. Why? Because people take what they want and there's still ample left over. So why not do the same with military gear, instead of rifles spawning on the ground in loot piles, have cases of assault rifles spawn. Instead of a couple magazines spawning, have a case of ammo spawn. You can't pick up the case, so even if you empty it, you can't farm that loot spawn.(because you need to clear all the loot in a pile) So there's even the possibility that it'll make the rare military gear even harder to get, because the loot spawns won't get cleared as much as they do now. Am I mad? Won't that make DayZ even more PVP focused? I don't think so. I think it would level the playing field for experienced players. You wouldn't have to run around to every hot spot on the map looking for a half decent weapon to defend yourself with. The ones running around to all the hotspots would be the people looking for AS50 ammo or NVGs, bigger risks, bigger rewards. Those people would most likely avoid the high yielding barracks since there would be more of a chance of running into armed people with nothing to lose. It's already a hotspot, why do we want to reward that effort and danger with tin cans? This is kind of a suggestion. But, I wanted to hear what people think of the idea, so I posted it here for discussion. TL;DR? Add more standard military gear to the barracks. More than you can carry.

DayZ: Most Private Hives Are Not Real DayZ

I'd love to hear Rockets opinion on this. I'm surprised nobody has asked about it in any interviews.
