Why is DayZMod still marked as "Alpha"?

Boiling water, different types of meat, infection from drinking dirty water, zombies attacking vehicles, backpack tweaks. Development hasn't stopped, and bugs are still being fixed. Not sure what the OP is going on about.

    What's wrong with Berezino?

People can't just suicide over and over until they're teleported to Berezino.
  3. -Nametags -3d crosshairs -Waypoints -Side chat -Kill notifications & counters -Peripheral dots -HUD -3rd person view But I would still buy it even if all those things were in it.

    Melee weapon as sidearm

You should be able to move your axe/crowbar/machete the side arm slot. Add two right click options.(move to primary, move to side arm) Why not?

We need a completely different loot system

The small towns already play a part. They break up the long walk from the coast to where ever you're going inland. Big cities should logically have more supplies than smaller towns. A military base would logically have military gear. We can debate about rarity and abundance, but I don't think removing military gear from the airfields, medical tents & fire stations is the right thing for the mod. Those places are an epicenter for action in the game. I don't think that getting everyone to spread out evenly across the map wouldn't make for a better game. You're already benefiting from looking for helicopter crashes because there won't be tons of people there. I've even suggested that basic assault rifles should be stockpiled at some of the military spawns, like the hospitals do with medical supplies. Sure, a barracks wouldn't typically have crates of weapons, but maybe the soldiers dumped them all there as a last stand? Or maybe add some more military spawns at the airfield.

We need a completely different loot system

Yeah, I didn't mean everyone will quit. There will be some people who find fun in a lengthy gathering process. But, the sad reality is with the mod the way it is, you get killed a lot. Weather it's to hackers, or to bandits hunting you down. If I had to dedicate a good 5 hours just to maintain my survival every time I die, I doubt I would play as much dayz as I currently do. In my eyes gear isn't the point of dayz. It's just something to fight over, the real point of dayz is social interactions.

I just assumed those numbers could be modified to be on par with their bigger counterparts.

Nicer isn't always doable when it comes to modding an existing game engine.

I don't think there's a problem with the loot distribution. It's just that people like you (and me) have learned the map. The whole gearing up part becomes just a chore. But, gearing up isn't the whole point of dayz. We shouldn't be looking for ways to make that part extremely difficult to keep veteran players interested. You've lived through the apocalypse, you've gained that knowledge, it SHOULD be easier for you. Think Rick Grimes & Glen in the first season of Walking Dead where Glen helps Rick get away from the tank and to safety. Rick was the new player, Glen is you. DayZ is a social game, use your knowledge and experience to help people who need help. It can be a lot more fun than searching for NVGs and GPS. (Not saying the loot system is perfect, I just don't think increasing that difficulty is going to do much for end-game players, they'll just get sick of the grind and stop playing.)

I'm sure it'll be different in standalone, this suggestion was only for the mod. I believe it is possible, but I'm no expert in arma2 modding.

    Melee weapon as sidearm

Yeah, but can a sidearm be "reskinned" to do the same thing? Then when a player moves a hatchet to side arm it replaces the weapon with that one. Similar to how the toolbelt item is replaced with a primary weapon when you move it currently.

    Modifying ammunition

Would be cool if there was a gun shop somewhere that you could go to and use their equipment. Maybe even salvage a generator and some gas to power the stuff up for a while.

DayZ Alpha won't launch until launched !

Because Dean wants to make a good game, not just make money.

It's annoying at times, but you made it part of your username? LOL

    Of all the oddities ...

Ugh, side chat always ruins stories like this. It's so much less special when you can talk to the whole server at the push of a button.

    I call them people.

I wish Rocket was more active on these forums like he used to be during the mod development. I'd rather hear stuff like this from him than in some interview that another player had to post about.

    Hopes for a darker future

So basically you're saying zombies (or the infection portrayed in DayZ) aren't realistic so we should throw out all plausibility and go with whatever you think would make for a scarier game? How about you go make your own arma2 mod, if you think he's doing it all wrong.
  19. bad_mojo (DayZ)

    Hopes for a darker future

Yeah, I get what you're saying. I was just trying to explain why that type of thing is lacking in DayZ. It's not in Rockets vision, and ultimately he has final say. Which I'm glad he does because I honestly share his opinion on this(and just about everything related to DayZ).

    Lack of vanilla

It was just him spamming his non-vanilla server and you pointing out the fact that it wasn't vanilla. I recall something about bringing a friend gets you a coyote pack and pistol or some sort of bullshit marketing tactic.

Pretty sure he deleted JackPotDayz post and your reply to it.

    Hopes for a darker future

Rocket is tackling this from a plausibility standpoint. Not a supernatural dead walking the earth aspect. He wants the virus that has infected the people to be scientifically possible. It's like the film 28 days later versus the walking dead. The walking dead has dead bodies reanimated, lots of gory corpses that are visually scary. In 28 days later the infected are still living, still human, they're just not thinking or acting like humans do naturally, the virus has taken control of them. The idea behind a situation like that is more scary to me than walking dead bodies, it's also easier to relate to because of real viruses like rabies and other things that cause a loss of control in humans.
  23. After surviving for about a month I randomly ran into someone in the wilderness who shot at me, instinct kicked in and I killed him. Only to be shot in the back by his buddy moments later. I realized that death is inevitable in dayz. No matter how tactical or careless I was, death was always just around the corner. My only hope was to sit in the forest somewhere, hiding from the world, emerging only to fill up canteens, hunt some game, then vanish back into the wilderness. It's no way to go through life. So, I vowed to change my ways, I stopped hiding the shadows and came into the light. I helped everyone, even if that meant being a dead body full of gear for some needy bandit. It was great, just the fresh start I needed, and I've never looked back.

    Hopes for a darker future

I agree it could look and sound better, but dude, it's alpha. Wait for all the new art and animations the standalone will bring, then we can pass judgement and make suggestions.
  25. bad_mojo (DayZ)

    Lack of vanilla

What I hope for in standalone is that the main hive servers be the only ones that are displayed on the in-game server browser by default. To get to the private hives you'll have to manually add the server or maybe change the filters to show private. If people don't want to play normal dayZ, fine, I don't care. But, it shouldn't be confusing and difficult for new players to find vanilla servers. That IS dayz after all.
