So I finally starved to death

Staying in Berezino is what killed you. Run up north and every building will have food/drink.

    Scope realism

We can barely get over 30fps with one rendering, picture in picture scopes would mean rendering twice. Maybe way down the line when everyone is running at 100fps, this might be possible.

    Dayz "ladders"

Wait what? How does that have anything to do with being gear minded?

    Dayz "ladders"

Add value to life huh? What if you don't have a great score? I see this as just another excuse people would use to suicide. Anything that adds value, with also devalue your life when you're lacking in it. Just like how you talked about how little you care about anything when you lose your gear, if you somehow get a low score you will act the same. Score, gear, etc. should not motivate or discourage you living your (virtual) life. Bribing players to value their lives is not the way to go.

You need to get off the gear addiction. Life is more than just your gear.

    Is a backpack a necessary?

My next character is going to have a bad back and won't be able to wear a backpack.
  7. bad_mojo (DayZ)

Why can't my guy be shirtless?

Agreed, it's also a little unauthentic to be bleeding but can't rip up your wife beater and use it as a bandage.

Any word on when suppressors will work?

I want to say they already work. You only hear the shot on your client? But, I really dont' know for sure. I've been shot by a guy and heard nothing except the bullets landing around me. When he walked up and finished me off I saw a suppressed m4. But, I've also had a suppressor for the m4 and pistol and both still make noise when I've fired, and zombies still react.

This is what THEY think of US!

I keep getting linked to that video, must be the fourth time I've clicked on it. Good video tho.
  10. Before the alpha came out Rocket talked about wanting to have attachments for your backpack that would let you strap primary/melee weapons to it.
  11. I keep mine on my back usually for the nonthreatening body language. If I happen to have it out when I run into someone, it's nice to put it away in front of them and stand there unarmed. Sometimes I'll even mention the fact that I'm putting it away, to ease the tension. Also, I usually ask if they need anything, to show how little I value my own gear. I would rather give all my gear away, than be killed for it. People might not come out and demand all your gear, but they will certainly team up and eventually stab you in the back. If you just offer them everything when you first meet them, there's no reason for them to try and kill you. That said, I never make it easy for someone to take advantage of me. I don't sit there letting them point their gun at me, and I always keep my distance. It gets obvious if they're trying to pull anything funny, when that happens it's time to either run or pull out the gun, depending on the situation.

Why loot is not full random?

The original poster explains the problem he see's, then he suggests a way to fix it, and then asks what our opinion is on this issue. If that's not the start of a discussion I'm not sure what is. Are we only allowed to talk about alpha is we're praising it?
  13. bad_mojo (DayZ)

Why loot is not full random?

Items not spawning in some buildings was used as an example to show that even the lead developer doesn't know everything at all times. The thread itself is about randomizing loot. Which is not a bug or caused by a bug. It's clear you failed to understand the points the OP was trying to make about the system and how we feel it needs to change. Your example of Dolina having 6 spawn points where a gun could be is EXACTLY the problem with the current system. You say it's alpha so we should reserve judgement, but tell me this, why would a more complete system be satisfactory when we dislike what is already there? How is more of a bad thing ever going to be a good thing? The point of the thread is that we should never know that there's 6 spawn points for a gun in Dolina. We should have no clue as to what loot we will find and in which house we will find it. Currently, I know which corners of which buildings have what kind of loot. That's not a good thing, and I feel like the developers need to get a handle on this before it gets too far into development.

Why loot is not full random?

It's not a bug, it's a discussion about game design.

Firefighter's axe in a backpack, but not an M4?

I would support the idea of putting guns & axes into packs(i know you can already with the axe, but want that removed) if the backpacks stop being treated as a giant holster and start being treated as a closed container that you need to put in your hands in order to open it and access your stuff.

Why loot is not full random?

You guys realize that discussions like this are specifically the point of having a public alpha test. We get to criticize the existing features and suggests ways to improve them, which the developers will take into consideration when they're further developing these systems. I'm so fucking sick of people screaming alpha at every god damn thread. Scream it at people who are rage quitting the game, don't scream it at people who are trying to help improve it. /rant

    CCSD, Investigation request.

There are walkers in the trees. They spawn there.

Why did he just sit down?

I didn't call him a cod kiddie. I said that when he keeps saying over and over "there's nothing to do but pvp" it makes him look like a deathmatching cod kiddie. I thought that if he knew how he was coming across to some of us, he might decide to change the way he explains himself and maybe get better responses. You're doing the same thing he was doing, making generalizations about how the majority of times you die if you trust people and that there's nothing fun to do but kill others. All that does is make a lot of people roll their eyes and ignore your posts, because they've experienced the opposite. Those things are subjective, we aren't all equally as charming and we all value different things.

To those whining about post-processing and gamma:

I don't need to keep reading your posts to know I completely disagree with not only your opinions on this, but also your attitude towards these options and their usage. Also, I didn't call you a cheater.
  20. bad_mojo (DayZ)

Why did he just sit down?

So... because you have good intentions we should embrace you blowing our brains out from a rooftop 200m away? You can say, for you it's not about ruining peoples day, but you have to consider the consequences of your actions. If you're gonna ruin peoples day by blowing their heads off, weather it's done intentionally or unintentionally for other reasons, people are going to react badly towards you and your playstyle, especially when you come on to these forums and brag about it. Sitting here and saying there's nothing else that's fun, just makes you look like a deathmatching COD kiddie. Weather you are or are not, it doesn't matter because by saying that over and over to justify your KOS mentality, you're trivializing the social aspects of DayZ. You're stating it like it's a fact, but it's just your opinion, and many people disagree with it.

To those whining about post-processing and gamma:

No words were twisted or generalizations made in my previous post. I clearly stated "might not be the same thing" about comparing hacking with gamma cranking. I only used hacking as an example because we know that while it might not always be protected against, it's not something we encourage others to do. It should be the same way with gamma cranking and disabling post processing, but for some reason people want to make excuses and tolerate it. Even worse, we have people like the OP who actively defend its usage. I feel like it's a horrible attitude to have towards gaming, and I felt like voicing my disapproval of that mentality. If you're gonna accuse me of twisting words and generalizing, please bring more to the discussion than just "it's not the same as hacking". My post had nothing to do with gamma tweaking being the same as hacking.
  22. bad_mojo (DayZ)

To those whining about post-processing and gamma:

I dislike this mentality that we can't look down on or discourage certain things because they aren't completely protected against. Shall we all download game hacks because they aren't currently being detected? Might not be the same thing, but it's the same logic.
  23. bad_mojo (DayZ)

Is there going to be a feature to tagg people as friendly?

Nothing any developer has said indicates this is the direction they would go. I highly doubt it.
