First vs Third Person Discussion (Dslyecxi video)

Yes you did. I made the point that there are people who play third person who don't like the current system. This is just a statement you pulled out of your ass. You have no solid proof to backup you claims. --- As for the word exploit, you can call it whatever you want, magic floating eye, play style, using the tools you're offered, exploiting the system. No matter what you call it, it doesn't change what it is.

There you go again, ignoring the point and focusing on your dislike of the terms used.
  3. Has that been confirmed? I haven't seen this stated officially yet.

SMLE, they're moderators, not Mr. Halls secretary. If they want to pass something on to him, they will. Also, they're free to take any side on any issue, they're what we call human.

What do you mean... no logical reason to change how 3rd person works? Even if there were dedicated first person and first/third person hives and servers, what about the people who like to see their character but hate the "exploits" you can do with that view? Just because you like the exploitable view with all its faults, that doesn't mean it's illogical for people to want to make it less exploitable.

Nobody is forcing you to click on it. Let us have our discussion. This thread is the only thing on these forums I'm remotely interested in.

It was specifically first person only servers I was talking about. I don't see anywhere saying they will be in the standalone. I get the feeling that Rocket shares my opinion in that there's no point in having first person only servers because it will end up exactly like the MOD, where despite lots of people wanting them, they sit empty. Edit: But, I'm not disappointed in this as a first person player. If the worst of the offenses can be removed, I wouldn't mind sharing my servers with third person players, because at that point it would almost be fair in terms of advantages.

This keeps getting thrown around on this thread. "SA WILL HAVE FIRST PERSON SERVERS RELAX!" but.... will it? Where's the proof? I see quite the opposite in Rockets words.

Wow, what an ignorant statement. You're suggesting that 80% of the people who bought Arma to play DayZ mod did it specifically because DayZ included third person view? Tell me then, why did they not buy Arma2 years ago when it launched? Surely it had third person view at launch, if you're implying that's the deciding factor for people, dayz didnt introduce anything new. Seriously tho, people would have bought dayz if it didn't even have third person view. CHKilroys videos became insanely popular early on in DayZs life, and he didn't enter third person once during any of them.

It's not about finding fault in your wording man. Look at the meaning behind my words, respond to that rather than avoiding it. Fraggle laid it all out for you, but you just simply turn it around like that argument makes sense. Having floating cameras doesn't add to the difficult or the unknown, because there's nothing you can effectively do to avoid them. That's not my playstyle, or opinion, that's a fact. That's just plain old laws of physics. Having the floating camera does increase your chance to die. I won't deny that. But, when it's reasonably out of your control that can't be considered difficulty. I said there's a difference between the unknown and the unknowable because when you can't see over a wall, it's unknown, you can walk around the wall, you can come at it from another angle, you can avoid the wall. When you have a floating camera and come to a wall, you're already spotted. You can avoid every wall in the game, but then what are you left with? Forest? You'll die. What about every tree? So.. you have to throw your life into the wind and hope the unknowable won't get you today. I don't know why I even bother, you'll just say to run faster or something equally silly and dismissive. Oh well.

Wow Ken, another fine example of your repeating the same crap over and over. Why not just address the point he was making about third person removing some of the tension. Or do you disagree that being able to see more around you removes some of the unknown? I'm sure you'll entertain us with another long winded avoiding the issue response.
  13. It's all relevant. If you uncheck the first person requirement, the servers with more than 20 players is over a dozen. Also, if you look in DayZ commander, it says there are 2800 servers for DayZ, while the largest mod (Origins) only has just over 1000. That can hardly be called rare. I don't even think all the mod servers combined surpass the number of vanilla dayz servers.
  14. It was DayZ commander filtered to vanilla dayz, including private hives with 1 player or more.
  15. Currently out of 6216 servers there are a whopping SIX servers running first person only. -UK352 with 12/42 players -DayZ ZP NOCD RU private hive with 3/50 players -BMRF DayZ #2 with 2/55 players The other three only had 1 player, so they're not even worth mentioning. This is hardly the picture you painted in your post SoulHunter. Perhaps you have something better than DayZ Commander to find these hidden gems you speak of?

First vs Third Person Discussion (Dslyecxi video)

The 1P whiners as you call us, have already admitted that most of us play on third person servers, using third person to its full ability. We've essentially adjusted our game according to the situation. But, if we dare to speak up and voice our opinions about our dislike the 3rd person flaws, you write us off simply as incapable whiners? I guess it's easier to dismiss our debates when you discredit us in your own mind. But, you're only fooling yourself with that broken logic. It's not that first person is all that great. It's honestly not. The reason I want first person and not third is because of third person being so exploitable and no decent solutions have been proposed so far. I'm open to accepting third person if the exploits can be fixed. I'll always prefer first myself, but I wouldn't want to force it on people if third gave no advantage.

Doesn't seem right to me unless you take the players current view into account. If I'm walking around in first person view for some reason, zombies seeing me over the walls seems counter-intuitive. But, I agree, it's one of the more plausible ideas out there. Just no to the markers over the head, I want less HUD, not more.

No, because I'm attempting to discuss the topic at hand. Not just avoiding the issues I don't like. Your last comments show exactly how unconstructive your comments have been throughout this whole thread. You flat our refuse to accept something is an exploit even when the developer himself says it is. You constantly fall back on that unacceptance as some kind of reason for you being right. You chose to throw underpopulated servers in our faces constantly as some kind of crucial piece of information, at the same time ignoring any discussion about WHY they're under populated, which the developer himself made mention of. Basically, you and SMLE have made some comments that you know will get a reaction, ignore the replies, then a page or two later, you pipe up with the same bullshit again. Either fucking address the replies or shut the fuck up about it. These circular arguments are doing nothing except ensuring that none of our words will be read by anyone at the top. I can hardly stand to keep reading, and I've read it all.

First vs Third Person Discussion (Dslyecxi video)

This thread isn't a discussion about populated first person servers. Those of us in the first person corner know all too well the state of the first person servers in the mod. Their lack of population has no bearing on this discussion. This thread is about third person view being exploitable and what should be done about it. SO FUCK OFF WITH YOUR AVOIDING THE ISSUE!

First vs Third Person Discussion (Dslyecxi video)

Out of all the proposed changes to third person view, my own suggestion(making zombies/players invisible until you see them in first person) is the only one I would consider acceptable, but I still don't think it's a good idea due to visual immersion breaking. Pulling the camera in close- It seems rather pointless to even have third person view if your screen is mostly blocked by your character model. This can be seen in other games. I think if people actually tried this change, they wouldn't like it. But who knows. Forcing first when prone- What if I want to go prone in the bushes and check to see if my feet are sticking out? What if my legs are broken? I'm forced to use first person for that 2km crawl to the hospital? What's the logic in that enforcement? There's just too many circumstances where unfair/unenjoyable/unauthentic restrictions will happen. Weapon on back means third enabled- This one is slightly better, but it's still wide open to exploitation. If an unarmed scout can still exploit the view, nothing has been fixed. Or you could just lay on a rooftop and shoulder your weapon until you see a target. Did I miss any?
  21. When there's multiple first person servers full, I'll go back to seeking them out. Until then, I prefer players.

Avoiding the issues being brought up and saying "Choice" over and over is just as useless as throwing around insults.

First vs Third Person Discussion (Dslyecxi video)

I believe having a community divided by choices is not good for the game. DayZ should be the same experience for everyone. If we want to analyze Rockets comments, I believe you are incorrect and SA won't have first person only servers. He knows there's no point if it's just going to end up with everyone in the third person servers. So, unless he changes his mind, I believe we'll see everyone in the same game, no choices, but that will be a mix of a butchered third person and first.

It's just a discussion. No need to get so worked up over a disagreement in game design. You believe choice is a good thing for Dayz, I don't.
