The term is actually being used as kind of an insult these days. Any time I ever mention making DayZ more difficult I get tons of responses that imply I only suggest adding difficulty because I want to boost my image as a hardcore player. The first/third debate in particular is ripe with these backhanded compliments. People wanting to split the game into a Elite Hardcore and normal difficulties. You'll notice they never want to refer to our version as normal or hard, it's always to the extreme. It gets so bad that discussions routinely get derailed into a debate about difficulty and elitism. The funniest shit is the people they're calling out for being hardcore wannabes are usually the more mature gamers who don't give two shits about what people think of them. They're just here to discuss DayZ and follow its development. Hardcore, expert, elite, are all words I look for in a DayZ server, but by no means do I feel like I'm any better than a player who plays on beginner, regular, or simplified servers. To me it's all about what we're looking for in our experience, not what we're capable of.

First vs Third Person Discussion (Dslyecxi video)

In a game that is largely about player interactions it's puzzling how much people are concerned with looking at themselves. The worst part of these debates are the "well if you guys would go populate a first person server" & "nobody plays first person, that shows everyone likes third person and not first" ideas. Do people actually believe this? If you're given two modes to chose from in a video game, and one is WAY better than the other, which do you think most people will choose? Obviously the better one. The problem in DayZ is that advantage is unrealistic and doesn't follow the spirit of the game. If we've got floating eyes, why not magic powers? Why not zombie repellent? Why not laser guns? I don't expect anyone to change their minds about this, but at least try to see it from our side once in a while. If you only look at the stuff that reinforces your side of the argument, you'll never see where you could be wrong. -
Do you play on first or third person servers?

Refuting findings? More like dismissing the information entirely. I called you a hypocrite because you said you haven't seen the polls people keep linking. Which itself is a stupid thing to say. Also you told me to drop it and let the devs make their own game. Except this is a forum for discussing all things DayZ & dayz development. Finally you said all the people who disagree are bored of discussing it, except you're still here, discussing it. Might not be the textbook definition of hypocrisy, but I can't be bothered arguing with it. -
Worst bandits you have ever seen?
bad_mojo (DayZ) replied to harley001's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
One time on a small coastal town a hatchet bandit was chasing me so I ran around the entire town and gathered up the zombies, it was pretty epic, I ended up dying due to being bit myself, but I'm pretty sure I saw him die too. It was complete insanity. Might have been during the patch where zombies would zerg spawn, there were so many. -

You keep going on and on about "overall view" when I'm saying these polls represent those most interested in dayz development. If you want to debate about weather or not dayz should be made for the masses, that's a whole other discussion. This specific poll may have under a hundred votes, but that linked one has 4500 with similar results. I just felt like you're under the impression that the majority of us think these polls being in our favor means anything. They don't, they just say something about public opinion. You obviously have to consider all the conditions of the polls. Nobody is calling for Rocket to make his decisions based on these poll results alone. We're just saying "Look, out of X number of people asked, this is what they think." It's useful in debates like "Everyone says this... it's only a minority.... there's no evidence people want that" because it shows some peoples actual opinions. Your point is that only the people who care about removing 3rd person are voting and talking about it. But, your presence here kind of flaws that logic. It's a poll, how hard is it to click two buttons? The titles are all you need to read. I can understand your argument for why there isn't a lot of people debating to keep it, these threads are mind numbing. But, not for voting on a poll. If people see a poll and care about losing 3rd person, it's hard to believe they wouldn't vote out of spite for the discussion. -
I'd rather see an Israeli type bulldozer. http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-dlqv48-3bQI/UKqDscmoo0I/AAAAAAAATNc/pkCsK0NHdbk/s1600/Israeli+Armored+Bulldozer.jpg

Polls don't accurately represent the whole player base. I don't remember seeing anyone say they did. What they do is give you an idea of what those most interested in DayZ development think. Which is why Rocket has used them in the past to get an idea of how his players will respond to changes. In fact, he normally only left his polls up for a matter of hours. My guess is he didn't want a whole bunch of people telling their friends to go vote for their preferred choice. Who knows. Point is, this game isn't being made for the masses, it's being made for Rocket and those that share his vision of a good game. You can dismiss the poll all you want. It doesn't change the fact that the people most interested in this games development feel that way about third person view. If the poll went the other way you know the 3rd person fans would be throwing it our faces non-stop. Just because you dislike the results, don't ignore what you're seeing. -

You could always just do what I do. Walk up to them calmly with your weapon lowered or holstered and greet them in a calm voice. It doesn't always work, but a lot of the time it does. Helps if you're a hero. -

Actually, the most important feature for most people when joining a server is number of players. We can't know what would happen to server populations if third person was removed from the standalone. So you're comments are rather baseless. I could make some wild claims based on the polls on here and reddit, but they wouldn't be anymore factual than what you just claimed. -

If I was Rocket I'd remove third person at launch, work on the modifications to it, and see how the community reacts to not having third person in the initial release. I think TPV would be nice for DayZ if it worked perfect, but it's not a priority. -

What if the players hate the results. It will all be for nothing. Time & code could have been better spent on useful additions to the game. Just because some players "feel better" using the current third person, doesn't mean jack shit when we're talking about a highly modified version of it. Seeing your feet was just an example of how the justification for the view being in the game in the first place, will be threatened by its restrictions. You don't give a man a Ferrari and then restrict it to 50mph, he might as well have a Ford Fiesta. -

I've already made a post in this thread saying how prone being locked to first person wouldn't be ideal if the rationale to keep third person is for being more aware of the space your body occupies in the virtual world. If i was prone in the bushes, trying to conceal myself from danger, how will I be able to know if my feet are sticking out of the bushes without third person view? I'm not trying to keep third person around. Personally I'd love to just scrap it altogether. But, I also don't want to see it made pointless. If it's going to stay we need to find a solution that removes the exploitation in most situations, without completely screwing over the viewpoint. I think that's the biggest problem with this, anything that will prevent exploits also has the effect of making the camera pointless & probably worse than FPV. -

DayZ standalone isn't Arma. I'm not saying it makes sense to assume anything, I'm just being skeptical until it has been confirmed officially. -

In a perfect world, sure, a context sensitive approach would be great. When you get close to a wall, it doesn't let you look over it, the same with corners and just about every object. In the real world, I don't want a whole shit load of server workload to be taken up by the code needed to restrict third person view. If it comes down to more zombies, or features for dayz, versus fixing third person, I'll call for third to simply be removed every day of the week. -

Address all the problems that Dslyecxi brought up in his video, work in your desire for seeing yourself. Then propose something that would work for both of us. You know where our issues lay with regards to third person view, we shouldn't need to keep repeating ourselves. -

"gimping yourself in reaction time and accuracy" Not entirely. You spot people sooner in third person generally. So in reality you have more time to react. Accuracy is also not affected since you can with 1 click of a mouse, be in first person view with the same accuracy as anyone. Slight bit of hypocrisy there, talking about shaming 3rd person players being useless, while doing it to 1st person players in the same paragraph. You guys don't like being called noobs, well I personally don't enjoy being painted as some kind of super hardcore ninja assassin special operator. I'm one of the friendliest players in DayZ, with no interest in PVP or being all that stealthy. Just like a third person player can be an amazingly good killing machine that hunts down Bandits and saves fresh spawns from them. Just cause we like one viewpoint, doesn't mean we fit a profile. -

You just said that if there is first & third person hives there's no logical reason for changing third person. Implying everyone who plays third person has no problems with it. Then a post or two later you say you've already gotten on board with changing third person view. Can't you see how circular and frustrating that is for the rest of us? -

Exactly, No. You agreed about 3rd person? Wow, I saw that. You must have missed it though because you just said the current system was perfect and anyone that wants it changed is a first person lover or something stupid like that. I'm just glad you actually responded to my point finally. Thanks.
