Comedy Sketch - Unofficial Dayz Standalone update
bad_mojo (DayZ) replied to dsenadhira@me.com's topic in DayZ Mod Gallery
The idea is good, but it comes across a bit non-funny & insulting towards dayz. Talking about the inventory screen being the same as arma for example isn't funny and not even accurate. -
There was that one bugged update, where everybody complained that all you could find was tin cans. Those were the days.

Still primarily killed by zombies
bad_mojo (DayZ) replied to RAM-bo4250's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
You don't value your life as much as you value possibly sweet loots. Try running around for a few lives and only allow yourself to pickup minimal medical, food & tools.(no backpack) Try to make it about what you do, who you meet, what you see, rather than what you find. Loot should be fuel to keep you going, not the end goal. -
Explain heroes and bandits to me.

I've been killed many times with a means to defend myself. I would rather die with dignity than lower myself to murdering other people. I play DayZ to run from people with guns. If I wanted a gun fight I'd play wasteland or something. -
That wrench needs more detail. Seriously tho, it looks amazingly realistic. Kudos to the developer, pure art. I can't wait to bash some zombie skulls in with it.

I feel like if the nature of DayZ remains the same, the additions can only make it better. DayZ tries to isolate the player and forces them to come together with other survivors in order to survive. As long as the additions aren't self bloodbag and selectable spawn points, I think the standalone will do just fine.

I got all excited yesterday when I found a can of Lemonade. It's my favorite drink and I haven't been lucky enough to have one since before the apocalypse.

Is it temporary? Do you guys think it'll be in the alpha after release? god i hope not.

So, a friend keeps bugging me to try Epoc. I'm the type of player who likes authenticity in DayZ, so the idea of having invincible houses and safes doesn't really thrill me. Is there anything else in the mod that would make it worth my while? Am I missing out on any improvements? Or should I just keep waiting for the standalone?

Hostage-taking - probably a terrible idea
bad_mojo (DayZ) replied to Xianyu's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
If you happen upon another survivor you can demand he puts his weapon down and then restrain him. Then you instruct him to stay there for 5minutes while you leave the area. You also tell him that if he struggles you have a sniper watching that will kill him. You save you bullets for those who do not comply. Profit. -

bad_mojo (DayZ) replied to Xianyu's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
That's like saying if you log in bleeding/passed out, we shouldn't punish combat logging. The player is in control of when & where they log back in, so it can be easily abused. Being wounded or restrained only matters when other people are there to take advantage of your weakness. -
How long does dayz have left to live..
bad_mojo (DayZ) replied to kevsta545's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I just hope DayZ doesn't follow the path that Minecraft did where Notch basically gave up on developing it further and opened it up to the community. The game I bought into in alpha never materialized. There's so much potential, but without a focused effort, it's all over the place. Don't get me wrong, I still love Minecraft and have purchased more copies of that game than I care to mention. I just don't want to see DayZ lay the groundwork for a great game and then open it up to the community for modding. I can't help but feel that would ruin it for me and drastically reduce the time I would get out of the product. A lot of us have great ideas about how to make games better, but I'm here to play Rockets game. -
First vs Third Person Discussion (Dslyecxi video)
bad_mojo (DayZ) replied to DemonGroover's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Ignoring the whole GTA stuff. Do you agree that third person in any game is easier to keep aware of your situation than first person? That was my whole point. You just couldn't get past the fact that GTA was designed with third person only. If you can't look past things and see the bigger picture, I'm done talking to you. Despite my passionate debating on these forums I hold no grudges against you. I simply like to debate issues. I'm not looking for a fight. I can't help but reply to your posts because from what I read, you can't see the forest for the trees. When I say that video shows how first person is more difficult and you say GTA was made to be third. That implies that you think the only reason it's more difficult is because it wasn't designed to be played in first person. Meaning you disagree with my point that first person is more difficult. You have some fucked up ways of conversing. I'll try to keep my thoughts to myself when I see you post from now on. No point in wasting our time. -
First vs Third Person Discussion (Dslyecxi video)
bad_mojo (DayZ) replied to DemonGroover's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I feel like "situation" has NOTHING to do with the first/third difficulty I was talking about. It's not about playing the game well, it's about moving around in a virtual world, keeping aware of what's going on. In a game like GTA that becomes difficult in first person because people are used to that overwatch perspective that comes with third person. Even if I followed your funky logic and accepted that if a game was designed for all action, no tactics, what are you suggesting? That it's not difficult to maintain situational awarness? Or that's it's only difficult because it was designed to be played in third person? Or maybe you just go back to focusing on the mission and setting? Finally, if GTA wasn't about tactics, taking cover & patience, why would there be a basic cover system? Why can you hide around corners and behind obstacles? It's a sandbox game, the player is free to play it however they want, similar to DayZ. -

bad_mojo (DayZ) replied to DemonGroover's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I feel like you barely skim my posts. I tried to show the difference in difficult between first and third in any game and you dismiss it by implying difficulty in first person GTA is a result it being designed for third person. DayZ, GTA, COD, BF, it doesn't matter, the difference between playing first and third is there in each. I agree the fact that he played a MOD version of first person probably increased the difficult. But, that's not at all the difficulty I was talking about. In fact, he seemed to control the character better in first than I can in third. I was talking about the difficulty that comes with seeing less and having to move your tunnel vision around to see everything. Maintaining situational awareness in a difficult situation isn't easy and giving a player third person view makes it a hell of a lot easier. No amount of design focus will change the fact that third person views give almost better than reality awareness in most games. -

It was more of the "having to look" stuff I was talking about. When you can't see around the corners, or see over the car you're following, things gets more difficult for the player. They have to deal with stuff as it comes at them, rather than being able to look forward and plan ahead. -

I recently watched a couple videos on youtube by DevilDogGamer, they're about a GTA police mod, where you get to play as the cops. The part that related to this thread was the fact that in the first video he plays in third person and then in the second video has has installed a first person mod. It clearly shows how much easier it is for him to handle the car and work the game in third person view. When he switches to first person, it seems awkward due to his new perspective.(As it should) He struggles to keep aware of the situation, rather than having it all play out before his eyes. It's not proof of anything, & it doesn't even add anything new to the conversation really. I just though it was interesting to see the two systems in a completely different game after debating about them so much on here. The one thing that really struck me was how much more beautiful the game was in the first person view. Some of the picturesque scenes from out his windshield made me wonder why Rockstar doesn't include a FPV. Perhaps it's just that I haven't seen Liberty City from those angles, but it made me want to buy GTA4 for PC just for the buggy first person mod.(even though I already own it for xbox.) -

Crazy idea, observe others. -
I see what you're saying, I agree. Servers that start you off with gear are less hardcore/difficult in my opinion, that's why I was confused by what you said.

I must admit that I keep coming back to this thread to read the posts by Ken Bean. I'm still not sure if he is trolling, but, his posts are entertaining to say the least. Ken, keep up the fight, it gets people talking. -
Are you implying that playing more difficult server settings will mean no positive social interactions? Is this your experience, or assumption? I've had plenty of positive social interactions on the more hardcore servers.

But zombies. Edit: Point of my suggestion is to make it so 3rd can only be used when safe. Make the radius for combat like 500m, and the zombies like 200m. People won't be able to tell which one caused them to go into first. Run around the forest swinging an axe and all exploiters in a square kilometer will be getting a face full of pine with a 5min cool down on their magic eye. Numbers can be adjusted of course. -

What about only being able to switch on third person view when you're away from combat/zombies. Even go as far as making you stand still for 5seconds to let it activate. Then you're in third until you get close enough to a zombie, or someone uses a weapon within a certain range.(or bullet lands within that range) Once that is triggered you would have a delay before you can enable it again. It would give us the same unmodified third person view in wilderness/camp situations, while eliminating a lot of the exploitation everywhere else. -

They have a point tho, DayZ would be a whole hell of a lot less immersive without those sweet sweet animations in the mod. I mean, Imagine having to watch them from first person, it would ruin the experience. /s
