Third person view removal from SA discussion
bad_mojo (DayZ) replied to lev's topic in General Discussion
You can call it whatever you want. I felt like you were trying to say the developers intended it to be used this way, so calling it an exploit was wrong. I tried to show that the developer felt the same way I do about using third person view in that way. So therefore the term exploit was fitting. I don't really care what we call it. It is what it is. Yeah, I responded to all of those posts. You basically just keep repeating yourself that the game isn't real life, so we should be able to unrealistically hide behind cover and still see out. Because, in real life it's hard to see people in the bushes or windows. I've already responded that I don't think it being a video game is any reason to suspend logical thinking and give people invisible para-scopes. In fact I think it hurts the gameplay. -

Surprisingly I think a lot of these guys wouldn't like that either. They've essentially worked the exploit into their gameplay and believe the game would be worse off if they couldn't use the invisible para-scope. At least a few people think that way. I wouldn't mind what you've described. But, I'd want third person removed until that kind of a system could be implemented. -

Because that's an entirely different discussion. And no amount of improving first person can compensate for the faults of third person. -

Do I get a cookie if I dig up the interview where Rocket says he wants to remove it? I'm not going to do it mind you, but just wondering if it would hold any weight with you? -

Actually, quite the opposite, he has mentioned restricting the third person camera so you can't look over and around objects. Nothing concrete mind you, he just talked about it briefly during some interviews. May I ask, if he does restrict third person view to the point where you can't "abuse" it in this way anymore, are you going to reconsider playing DayZ? -

Actually no, that was a reply to your comment about us playing in first person on third person servers. You seemed like you didn't understand where we stand. You seemed like you thought we didn't use third person view because we didn't like the camera angle. Which is not the case. It is a rather pointless tangent I'll admit. Basically just stating the obvious to the oblivious. You're not really making any points anymore, just telling us to deal with it, not gonna happen, look at population numbers, blah blah blah. The same circular arguments that have been going around in circles forever. Go back about 10 pages, you'll find all sorts of posts about everything you're currently talking about. I can't be bothered to reply anymore because you guys ignore the reply and move on to another pointless tangent. -

I'm actually done with you Diggy. I said fuckem to people not reading the warning when buying an alpha. You're just blatently saying fuckem to anyone who doesn't worship third person view. You've brought up no new points in the last few pages, you're just repeating yourself and drawing conclusions that are mainly speculation. It's pointless to discuss this topic any further with you. Fuckit. -

When we say exploiting a mechanic, we mean that Dean Rocket Hall, the developer of this game, thinks looking over walls using third person view shouldn't be part of the game. Thus you're exploiting the third person view to accomplish an undesired tactic. Basing your argument on the fact that people have worked this exploit into their game, is the only thing that is laughable here. -
Force mic chat: skype etc.. thru dayz?
bad_mojo (DayZ) replied to sai (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
You connected a mic to your computer, you downloaded a game that uses it, you started that game, you joined a server. How is that an invasion of privacy? The game is free to capture any and all communication going into that mic. -

bad_mojo (DayZ) replied to sai (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
I know I know, things can be circumvented. Hell, just pull up steam and type to someone with a muted mic. Point is, people can alt-tab and use the online map instead of fighting to find pieces of one in-game. Yet, some people still do it legit. I don't think assuming people are going to circumvent the in-game voice is a good way to build a video game. If you make it so people can work with the in-game voice, then you might win more and more over. At the end of the day, you set your own difficulty in dayz, you can stay in the shadow, use teamspeak, or you can run in the open and talk over direct chat. Assuming everyone wants to be super tactical, stealthy, & lazy isn't the right way to think when developing a sandbox game like this. I don't think anyone would argue that this idea is perfect. But, it's something. It's a step in the right direction at least. -

If the tactics employed by third person are not authentic to real life, I don't want them in DayZ. -

Nobody runs around in only first person. If the option is there you HAVE to use it. Jesus fucking christ, don't be so ignorant to the discussion, we're not here to piss you off, or make the game easier on ourselves, we're here trying to show you guys how no third person eliminates a lot of bullshit tactics. It's not that we don't use third person view, it's that we don't want the option to use it. -

Two things, it divides the community. And everyone will gravitate towards the easier option. Who cares about advertising, it says in big text everywhere that this is an alpha release. If people get upset about features being taken out of the game during the alpha, it's their fault for buying it early. Fuck em, they knew the risk. -

I understand. But, the way this game engine is, we can move our players in just about any way imaginable given the right programming. If it's possible to put in a better way of peaking over & around objects, why would you resist that to keep third person? Look, you're never going to convince me that being able to see out of cover is a good thing. If you can see over a wall without exposing yourself, I don't follow how that's a good compromise. -

That's why it strikes fear in my heart. The mod grew to popularity because it specifically didn't care about pleasing the masses. If he starts to care now, then he might end up ignoring the stuff that made DayZ popular in the first place. In other words, I don't want to see him making any decisions for the sake of selling more copies. I came to DayZ specifically because it was trying to be something different, something difficult and unforgiving. An authentic experience, where typical video game strategies go out the window and human intuition is valued. But yeah, let's keep the invisible para-scopes because some people might be upset about their removal. That attitude is going to make a great video game. :( -
I would also love to see some teenaged player models. Don't even have to be smaller, just younger looking.

I fear that Rocket doesn't want to disappoint the masses that purchased his game. I miss the days where Rocket would make a change and then post memes when the masses came here to cry about it. Those were the days. -
We're not talking about communist China and North Korea here. If enough people demanded they change the censorship laws in Australia, I'm sure they could get them changed. I know if Canada was censored like that I would still push for stuff like this to be added, and then worry about breaking the law or fighting to change them. Fuck censorship.

I'm sure this could be changed somehow. Maybe when you look straight down your character leans out a bit? I see your point, but I don't see the only solution being tpv. -

I play on servers with more than 30 people. To me, people are the most important factor in DayZ. If I have to join a low population server in order to play first person only, I simply won't. I can have fun on a third person server with people, but I can't have fun in first person when there's nobody in the server. When the mod first came out there were populated first person servers, that's all I ever played. Why do I believe first person servers always ended up empty? Because there's a choice, and tpv is the easier mode. It's human nature to take the path of least resistance. -
If game developers keep giving in to their retarded censorship laws, things will never change.

I suspect it's a dupe glitch.

He thinks the ability to see people without exposing yourself is something we should keep because it benefits the gameplay. -
It can never be fair for everyone. What if they setup hives for each continent, and then set it up so night time was 9-5? Should the kids and scroungers be punished by playing at night? That's not fair. But, I'm sure you'd like it. The simplest way to level the playing field is have a global server time for the whole hive. Don't like it? Wait for private hives.
