I'd love to be able to hold up a long rage scope, or even just an acog and use it's magnification to see into the distance. Also, being able to hold the weapon flashlight and use it like a normal flashlight would be nice too.

I like this idea but I feel like the range should be reduced a bit for always on, but keep the ability to press caps lock and "yell" to the range you can now. Direct chat range is a bit much to be constantly broadcasting, half the range would be a good start.

Make people who die from fall damage(within a time period after spawning) spawn in the same spot.

The starting "kit" bothers me.

My backstory, while on vacation in some random country, the zombie apocalypse began. While in a military cargo plane on our way back to North America, someone on the flight becomes infected and starts going crazy, then more and more until the whole plane is madness. Rather than wait my turn to be eaten by these monsters, I grab a parachute and jump. Landing near the shoreline of Chernarus or maybe inland a little ways. Flashlight is there for gameplay purposes. People bitch enough when it's dark, imagine if they had no light source. No starting gear please. -
Of course it would. You're avoiding leaving the area because you know people have you held down. Leaving the server is a way to cheat yourself out of that situation. If you want to leave the game legit, exit the hospital and run into the bush somewhere. If they haven't attacked you by the time you get into the forest, you're good to quit. Not saying my opinion is the correct one, it's just what I think.

I guess I'm one of those rare people who actually gets excited if I have to deal with a lack of gear because an area has already been looted. I don't see that as some kind of problem that needs to be fixed, I see it as a challenge. It's the hand I was dealt, I'm not going to instantly fold and demand more cards, I'll see how the game goes. Think of all the amazing times you guys could have potentially had scavenging for the smallest scrap of food or drink in a looted server, if only you didn't chicken out and hop. I've never died to a lack of loot. The only thing that starves people to death is a lack of motivation. Don't just search a couple houses, find nothing and get discouraged, start feeling sorry for yourself, and decide that the only hope for survival is to server hop. At that point you're already dead, no matter how long you live for after hopping, you're still a cowardly failure on legs. I am disappointed such a large portion of this forum thinks so highly of their server hopping tactics. Tisk, tisk.

At that point they wouldn't be video games. We wouldn't be looking at a video anymore. I agree with The Man, it's ridiculous to think we'll ever be able to simulate our vision perfectly on a video screen. Even with things like the oculus rift or a full on VR room with projected images covering every wall, the resolution is good, but it's not realistic. Being able to look at individual grains of sand and also focus on a distant object is not something that is possible on a video screen or even in a virtual environment. It's even more ridiculous to think that a bunch of people are unwilling to lose third person view until we reach the level of The Matrix, where we hook our brains to the computer and live these games in our minds. If we ever reach that level of gaming, I doubt I'll be playing a game as horribly violent as DayZ.

Asking for the PvE elements to become as deadly as the bandits is certainly not crying about pvp. The fuck you smokin?

I was pretty vocal about the lack of administration of the hive server in the mod. But, it's even more depressing seeing the same lack of enforcement happening in standalone. PvE, loot farm, battleye disabled, & 24/7 day servers shouldn't be tolerated on the official hive.

No way, I even feel bad for logging out one time when a zombie was hitting me from under the floor or invisible, I should have just ran. I instantly regretted it, and that was just a zombie.

dayz surpassed in population

Holy shit, calm down. Did you even look at the link in the first post? What gibonez says is not the opposite. What he said is just facts, it's not him praising Rust over DayZ. -
When you press P it should tell you something like "30/40 players" instead of listing the individual players names.
-
If we left the names in chat some bandits could demand you say something in direct chat to get your name, that shouldn't even be an option for them. Your name is whatever you say it is, just like in a real apocalypse.
-
Good point, they should hide your name in text chat too. I don't think names have a place in a zombie apocalypse. My name is whatever I say it is, at any time. My steam name relates to me as a person, but it shouldn't in any way be tied to my character in dayz.
-
I'm weak. if the option is there, I'll use it, just like 3rd person. Path of least resistance and all. If you're running 40mins to meet someone I'm sure you have time to communicate the name of the server. Damn, you caught me. All those bans resulting from players looking at the player list are a real thorn in my side.
-
I always wanted the ability to walk like a zombie in the mod, so I could blend in to them and get away from bandits at times.

I like confusion in my video games. There's too much certainty these days.
-
The player doesn't need to know who is in the server. I find it's best to give as little information as possible. For example, if I met someone in the game and see their name on the list, that could influence my game play. It could be a positive or negative influence, but I feel like the player list shouldn't be there if there's a possibility it will influence the game play even in the slightest. Also, why not?

Press alt and move your mouse. HOLY SHIT I CAN SEE WHERE I AM! Replicating reality isn't the point, encouraging realistic behavior is. Does third person view encourage realistic behavior? Fuck no! Something else we have in real life, are parascopes, and they aren't invisible.

Right now it doesn't matter where you put your items, the pockets of your hoodie or in a protective case in your backpack, you can access everything instantly via the hotbar. Should this change? What's your opinion?
-
I felt like bumping this since we've all had a chance to play more. I still feel like this new inventory system is too quick and easy when dealing with the contents of your backpack. The design of the arma2 inventory system, as awkward as it was, did result in people not using their backpack as a workspace & big pocket like we have now. Edit: I feel like it would add to the experience if we had to put our pack into our hands in order to add contents to it. To see someone running around a building with a backpack in their hands picking up items would be more authentic than someone with an m4 looking at a can of beans and it magically teleporting into their backpack. I'm not saying they need animations for picking stuff up(but that'd be sweet too), but you should have to have empty hands or be holding the container(backpack) in order to loot stuff.

Screen shots from another players perspective > *
-
Seeing yourself in 3rd person does have its uses, beside being vain. I would really like the inventory screen to better represent what your character currently looks like from 3rd person. Rather than the doll we have now, it should be animated, change stance, bleed and hold items. Basically, turn it into a 3rd person view of your character, with everything else removed.

I just don't find item decay fun...

I don't think disabling something because it's not perfect is the right way to go about it. We have to test these things and figure out what exactly is broken about it, and how we can fix it. Wait until they've patched it(this feature) a few times. If this is ruining your game experience, stop playing the alpha. As a tester you have to be ready for game ruining bugs, it comes with the territory.
