Suggestion: Sleeping When Logged Out
bad_mojo (DayZ) replied to globalfriction's topic in Suggestions
While I like the idea of sleeping being a part of DayZ, I don't think character should be in the world while the player is not. The fact that in real life I can wake up when there's a noise, hurts the plausibility of this suggestion. I think sleep should be introduced as a log out procedure as well as a fatigue restoration mechanic. Give players benefits for sleeping in shelter. Increase the environments hostility towards those who don't. If you sleep on the ground, you're going to be weak the next day. Log out procedure should only come into effect hours after you leave. Meaning, you can change servers, even take short breaks, without enduring the punishment for not sleeping. But, if you do sleep, it starts the sleeping process. So if you're taking a break in real life, you can build a little shelter and rest your character for a few hours. When you return, you're rewarded with a bit of a stats boost compared to someone who just logged out in the middle of the street. It's important to implement sleeping as a benefit, not just a punishment against those who don't. -
All credit goes to Merino of the Trusted Medics of Wasteland, I just used his great video to show the effects of post processing. Most people just turn it off without even trying it.

I'm more worried about the duping than the server hopping right now
bad_mojo (DayZ) replied to billyangstadt's topic in General Discussion
I despise duping as much as anyone, but duping being a bigger problem than server hopping doesn't make sense to me. Server hoppers steal the loot that is meant for honest players, dupers introduce loot into the economy, while leaving the honest players loot untouched. Sure, neither is good, but I would take some hidden duping over people server hopping the military areas, any day. -
Rocket considered releasing the alpha without zombies. So, I think it's safe to say that these current zombies are very placeholder. The models look good, but they're not working as intended. Luckily DayZ isn't strictly a zombie game.

Why are freshspawns now referred to as "bambis"?
bad_mojo (DayZ) replied to omgwtfbbq (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Only time I ever hear that word spoken in game is when it comes from a pre-teen squeaker. They're all just people to me. -
That would only be a valid assumption if every region in the world had an abundance of populated third person and first person servers at all times. When there's 5 options(low ping, high population) for third person, but none for first, you can't expect to gather any useful data looking at the numbers. Peoples "votes" will be swayed by availability.

Private hives suck. It's like playing battlefield and having to unlock all the weapons for each server individually. We don't all want to sit in one server, and play with the same people over and over. Public hive encourages better servers, because there's always the option to join another one at any moment with nothing lost, except the douchebag admin. There's also the disconnection I would feel towards my character if he wasn't the only one. The public hive is one of the reasons I started playing DayZ, people just focus on the negatives it introduces and want to throw the whole system away before the developers have a chance to fix the negatives. They want the quick and easy fix, who cares what we lose, am I right?

DayZ has always been unforgiving towards outside groups of friends playing together. Two new players to the game would have a hell of a time trying to find each other. Even when everyone is experienced enough to survive and navigate the map, you still face many obstacles just in meeting up. After meeting up, you're given no help in identifying or locating your other group members. You can't respawn near the group. You can't walk up to someone in the game and add them as a steam friend. There's no clan system or squad chat. My question is what do you think of this? Do you want to see more or less help for groups?

Hot bar.

What about two players meeting in-game. Should they have any option for making a connection?(steam friends, or something along those lines.)

He's going to say it's not an exploit because it's in the game. Also, he'll probably say that because 1st person isn't realistic, third person doesn't have to be either. Stupid debates will never end.

That sucks if it does have the water pumps. It makes no sense, why a water pump in someones back yard would be on a map. The map should be made a lot less detailed, more like a civilian road map, less like a military map. I don't even want to see buildings.

Sits on top of school in elecktro, spams the escape key to see when people are coming. Quit *Nope* Quit *Nope* Quit *Nope* Quit *Nope* Quit *Nope* Quit *Nope* Quit *Nope* Quit(please wait 15minutes) *HELLO!*

By your logic the in-game map should have loot placement and water pumps. Not to mention cheats and spoilers.

Once you eat and drink enough it takes 20 minutes to start the healing process. Healing restores your blood, once that is full, your health regenerates. Healthy is when you're 100%. Eating and drinking will maintain it. Being low on blood will drain your colors. Being low on health will make it blurry.(Unless you've turned off post processing.)

New models for DayZ--<Enjoy>--!
bad_mojo (DayZ) replied to Hebrew Melvin's topic in General Discussion
Kind of disappointed to see the night vision goggles already in the files. I thought they were going with a civilian style monocular night vision. The goggles are just too tacti-cool and scare everybody away from playing at night. -
know how the devs can make player bases be on the hive (not server specific)!
bad_mojo (DayZ) replied to crazykage's topic in General Discussion
No thanks. Sounds like the base would be a safehouse if other people can't enter or see it. -
I understand why people think real time food & water is going too far. That's why it would be good for a hardcore hive. You still have your main hive character you can neglect for weeks. But, if you want the game to pull no punches, you can subject yourself to the hardcore hive, where you have to log in every couple days and eat and drink or your character will die.
-
Because it was never supposed to be a kill confirmation, but that's all it got used for.
-
Real time food/water requirements. If you log off for days, expect to die. There's a saying... we can go 3 days without water, 3 weeks without food and 3 minutes without air.

The reason why i kill on sight now !!
bad_mojo (DayZ) replied to africanhungergames's topic in General Discussion
There's nothing wrong with giving out weapons. You just can't hand them to everyone.I usually decide in 30seconds after meeting someone if I would trust them with a weapon. -
I said no modding, but I would be okay with it eventually. Like after alpha & beta and there's an official release, then they should officially start supporting modding. Otherwise the versions get all fucked up and you have old mechanics in new versions of mods. The vanilla gets better, but the mods ignore it because it breaks their modifications. That said. I think a map editor would be great any time. Good maps take forever to make, so the sooner the better for them.

The reason why i kill on sight now !!
bad_mojo (DayZ) replied to africanhungergames's topic in General Discussion
Try playing each life individually. Why should your current character care how & why your last one died? Nobody really cares if you kill on sight, you're only going to hurt your own experience. -
Do you ever server hop?
