  1. So, what is the most startled / terrified you have ever been in Dayz? For me, it was last night. There I am, slowly climbing the stairs of an office building... Making my way with my revolver out, with hope in my heart that I can find a Mosin. I slowly move up the stairs, keeping a careful watch on my left for someone coming down from the third floor. I make it about half way, start to look to my right to check around the corner and BAMM a player runs right in front of my from that direction. I panic and start firing my revolver. BLAM, BLAM, click, click... The first two shots go wild... He runs back the direction he came, and I run back down the stairs, out the building, and around a pub. That is my biggest scare. What is yours? (I actually felt bad shooting at him. I just panicked. I even had a spare can opener for trade... And boy, I love the extra panic from running out of bullets!)
  2. Here is another couple of cool ideas: 1 - an automatic character diary, highlighting what you did, but generated automatically. (E.g. I went to Cherno firestation, and found a pistol. I heard a shot in the distance and everything went dark) 2 - gameplay stats: things like longest life, farthest distance travelled etc
  3. Things I don't expect to be in the finished product, but could be somewhat cool: 1 - Nerve gas 2 - Underground bunkers 3 - Disabiling / slow kill traps (e.g. Pugai (sp?) North Vietnam poo on point stick traps) Things that I don't think should be in the game ever: 1 - Amputaion (forced or by choice) 2 - Using rope to hang people / bodies / any desecration of the dead 3 - Rape
  4. Hi all, There has been a lot of talk about how KOS is killing the game, and how there needs to be changes to the game to discourage / stop this behavior. Unfortunately KOS is a real life reality that I imagine most people on this board have never experienced, and many have never even read about. The most large scale recent example of KOS is the Siege of Sarajevo, where a street was nicknamed sniper alley. In this street alone, snipers wounded 1030 people, and killed 225, of whom 60 were children. This was the indiscriminate killing of civilians by 'civilized' people in Europe. To read more: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siege_of_Sarajevo There are many, many more examples of man's inhumanity toward man. Kill on Sight is Human Nature. You may be thinking to yourselves "so what if it is human nature, they shouldn't be allowed to do this". That is the role of government in our society... The government has a monopoly on force (e.g. killing people). Asking for limitations / incentives not to kill on sight (beyond basic gameplay features already present) is like asking "Where is the government?" during the zompocalypse. Without laws and a government to enforce those laws, you will always need to ask yourself "Will this person kill me?" every time you meet someone. So, what can you do about KOS? Do what humans have done for millenia, join a tribe (in this game called clans). The advantage of a tribe is that, when meeting another member of the tribe, you do not need to ask yourself "Will this person kill me?", because if they do, the tribe will punish the person. Whenever you meet someone else however, you still must ask yourself "Will this person kill me?". I do agree that KOS can be very frustrating when your opponent saw you via 3PP / ghosted around your position / or server hopped to kill you. Unfortunately, that is reality for now. To end on a happy note: "There is only one way in which one can endure man's inhumanity to man and that is to try, in one's own life, to exemplify man's humanity to man." Alan Paton

So why do people refuse being held up?

The only time I was held up the guy took a bunch of my blood and I had grey vision for hours. I doubt I will ever let someone handcuff me again.

'Take <x> into hands' for all items

I would actually like to move bodies or their backpacks to create traps for other players.

Thoughts on DayZ as a Noob

Hello, I am completely new to DayZ (mod or standalone). I started playing on Jan 4th, and I think this game is AWESOME. I have already logged 19 hours. Since this is an alpha, I thought I would share my thoughts on the game. Thankfully I waited a couple of days to post this, as I was kind of a whiny-pants at first. Please let me know what you think of the below items. Do you have any thoughts to share? · Why can’t I chamber a single round into weapons with a magazine? · Why do all the weapons come without magazines? Shouldn’t it just be a poor condition magazine (causing high likelihood of jamming) · Thank you for not spawning zeds in buildings. I am terrified of the day that happens. · Speaking of spawning zeds, please do not make them “respawn”. I like that dead zeds stay dead. You could replenish areas using migrating behaviour (e.g. only spawn at the edges of the map and migrate either randomly or towards sound, etc) · I am really hopeful that the zeds gain grouping into hordes. That would be AWESOME! · The effect of equipment status is completely unclear. Do small items drop out of a ruined / badly damaged backpack? Do damaged shoes increase the risk of a broken leg? · The broken leg mechanics are extremely annoying, yet realistic. However, I had no idea my leg was broken (I think it broken when I got to the bottom of the ladder in the big building in Elektro, but it may have been because I was sick. Either way, I had no idea why I couldnt stand up). So I crawled around for about an hour searching for medical supplies, and was able to cure my sick status. I still couldn’t walk. I gave up and switched servers to look for more medical supplies… and suddenly I could walk & run again. Was this a feature or a bug? · The loot system encourages server hopping. After searching for a Mosin for 12 hours across many locations, I finally found one by hopping through 4-5 servers at a known spawn location. I view this as “search the area again to discover new items with a time lapse”, but that is still silly. · Speaking of silly, the complete lack of any map for the island for fresh spawns is a poorly thought out game mechanic. All this does is encourage metagame actions like loading the map on your tablet / second monitor as opposed to exploring the island naturally. I have no doubt I would have resorted to this strategy eventually, but I switched to it after my first character followed a road for a couple hours and died of thirst/starvation. · Zombie Predator Vision. Those things can spot you from huge distances away, and blend wonderfully into the background since they don’t move and are grey on grey. The only thing they are missing is a shoulder mounted plasma cannon. I hated this before I found proper weapons, now it doesn't really scare me. I love that. · Crawling on the ground sucks. It is nearly impossible to crawl through doors, and you cant crawl up stairs. (If this happens to you, try standing up while crawling. You will sometimes dive through the door / stairs) · Darkness. This is awesome and realistic. Whenever I encounter it, I change to a different server to simulate “sleeping”, much like my other server hopping justification. I look forward to the day that flashlights are not a direct conical laser beam of light, and actually diffuse through the room / have a wider or adjustable arc.
