Dont waste your time looking in Elektro. You can get them in the office buildings (top 2 floors), but you CANT get a magazine for one. Magazines only spawn in military buildings. Yes, this make NO sense, but that is the way it is. Edit: Similar thing for the FNX magazine. You can find the gun in the office building, but not the magazine. Again, this doesnt make sense.

Problem With No Longer Spawning In/near Cherno
Admiral_69 replied to Timecharge's topic in General Discussion
Meh, I have become kinda bored with the strategy I was playing before: 1 - Slink around towns, making sure it is safe. 2 - Loot town. 3 - Repeat until you have 3 bags of rice, 3 canteens, unlimited small food and medical supplies. Throw out what you dont need. Get bored. 4 - Go to airfield, get guns and unlimited ammo and long range scope. 5 - Go to big city, get killed by sniper, and get pissed off. 6 - Restart at step 1. So now my play is: 1 - Respawn at Kam, and try to kill yourself. 2 - Respawn at Solnich, Kill self. 3 - Keep spawn killing until: A - You get Brezno: 4 - Server hop in office building until you get a gun. 5 - Go to a loaded server, "hunt the most dangerous game", and actually enjoy yourself. 6 - Get combat experience. 7 - Get killed, not care about it, and go back to spawn killing. B - You get Elektro: 4 - Start exploring and find weapons even in 39/40 server. 5 - Stay on the same server, and enjot playing "Hide and seek". 6 - Get actual combat experience. 7 - Get killed, not care about it, and go back to spawn killing. Honestly, until more content is added to this game, they need to seriously reconsider these spawn points. I really like this game (both the difficulty / frustration and the survival aspects), but I am growing tired of designers' attempts to force behavior. I mean seriously, you removed spawn points because people weren't play the way you wanted them to play??? /rant -
How Much Time Has Passed Since The "outbreak" Happened?
Admiral_69 replied to nudelwalker's topic in General Discussion
Honestly, it could be years if 99.9999% percent of the population was infected... There would be almost no one to loot the firestations / army depots. Plus, in my opinion, these locations already look like they were looted along time ago anyways. I have found, based on in game experience, that looters only take what they need + can carry. Thus, what we have leftover are the scraps. Guns are extremely durable. If this was immediately following the outbreak, weapons would be everywhere. Lying in the middle of the street when people were overrun. One only need look at Eastern Front pictures from WW2 battlefields to grasp how, when there is no one to clean up (or no available labor) bodies with their gear are abandoned on the field. Heck, there is a thriving eBay market for "recovered" WW2 battlefield relics, including guns. -
I found one on the desk on the top of the ATC. Good luck.

Also, keep in mind that server hoppers spend a lot of time looking for Mosins in accessible office buildings... So you are unlikely to find them there.
-
Find a secluded office building (three story building with a fourth story accessible from the roof). It spawns on the top roof or the shelves on the third floor. Hop until you find it (pick a secluded one). If you don't want to hop, I have found them: 1 - Shipwreck 2 - maybe military buildings. But the office building has the highest probability IMO. OR use the dayzdb map and search for spawn locations. Filter out bugged locations, and start searching. But again, the office building / school is still the best bet.

Honestly, it all depends on what you are armed with. As a freshspawn, speed looting an unexplored town, they are damn scary. (I had like 5 on me at once while I was trying to get a hoodie.) Once you are armed, they are much less of a threat, and only scare me when I am in a building on the second floor. I know they are in the building, but I don't know where. That is still scary.

Problem is server configuration. Report the server... There is a post by rocket about this somewhere. Anyways play hardcore as most of those servers are configured right.
-
Play on a hardcore server. I think all of them are configured correctly.
-
Title says it all. Are there still random zombie noises from animals? Or should I say AnimalZ?
-
I have been playing hardcore and listening for sounds is so much more important when first person.
-
If this happened, you just won the internetZ.

Zombies run at the same speed as players. But players can sprint, which most players think of as running. Once stamina is introduced (likely after vehicles), Zombies will be a bigger threat. Making Zombies run faster than players can sprint is silly. It would be a bloodbath.
-
No kill servers are trolling YOU! They are setup to lure new / non aggressive players so they can kill you for the lulz. Same thing with recruit servers. Play hardcore. Most of the players on there are not stupid fist fighting newbs, and they don't usually shoot on sight.

All the easily mined minerals have already been extracted from the surface of the earth. Scavenging yes, mining no.

This is pre patch as well. I noticed it while waiting for the cola drinking thunder foot. He was surprised.

It is a sign. The great Cthulhu has awoken! All hail Cthulhu.

Honestly if all I have in the world is contained in a single backpack, I would know EXACTLY what is in there. Especially if my survival depends on it. Now Rainman like autistic bullet counting makes no sense.

I went to open a can of tuna, and thought, thank god I have a can opener.

Hi folks, I couldn't find anywhere else this was discussed, so I am asking here. In DayZ, how long ago do you think the zompocalypse occurred? Personally, I think it happened within the last 1-2 years. 5 years would be the max based on the ingame shelf life statement for cans. I think the minimum is at least one year, given the level of rust on the cars and the absence of crops in the fields. What are your thoughts?

Zompocaplypse - How long ago did it happen?
Admiral_69 replied to Admiral_69's topic in General Discussion
Well, I don't know about the looting... The buildings are EMPTY. I mean, look at the grocery store. There are only a couple of items in there. That looks looted. BUT all the doors are closed, which implies the build was never looted. Here is another thought for you. What if the Soviets and the Americans went to war, and the destroyed vehicles are remnants of that war. The civilians fled the violence, leaving very little behind. The war swept past Chenarus, leaving largely empty buildings and destroyed vehicles in its wake. Things were looking bad for the Soviets. They unleashed their final option... Virus Z. Anyways, as you can probably tell, I would love some lore to go with this game! -
Honestly, it is really cool playing when the sun is rising / setting. It would be nice to know what time it is in the server before joining.

Zompocaplypse - How long ago did it happen?
Admiral_69 replied to Admiral_69's topic in General Discussion
Yes, I agree that Bananas, Oranges, and Kiwis are really out of place in this game. Realistically, those have a very short unrefrigerated shelf life, and they are not locally grown. I could see Apples and Pearsn as those are in season in autumn. Plus, there are zero bodies, so I would think they rotted away. -
I would edit my post if I could, but there doesn't seem to be any option on a BB. Honestly, I think the loot tables need adjustment based on area of the map in addition to building type. That way you could boost the drop rate at Kam of say, backpacks, food and water, and drop it elsewhere on the map. This could be understood as "Kam fell first" and the people weren't able to get out. Thus they food and clothing stayed in the buildings.

Honestly, Solyn isn't a terrible spawn. It is only a short walk north to some reasonable stuff (maybe 10 min). However I will kill myself there if I wanted to go west as opposed to north. Kam is a horrible spawn. There is nothing worthwhile in ANY direction for quite some time. I spent time looking around in the area on my second life and realized I hate this spawn. If I spawn there, I climb the cliff and jump. The WORST spawn is when you spawn on the island near Kam. Then you have to spend 5 minutes swimming just to get back to the main land, with nothing to show for it. For new players, the only option, without metagaming, is to follow the costal highway to find other towns. My first character starved to death in the far North while following roads. I couldn't find anywhere with food loot. (Was with a group that shot down the idea of following powerlines). Do you have any idea how many dead end dirt roads leading to empty farm houses / tiny villages there are? Now you have to ask yourself, why do people like spawning near Elektro if it is a death trap... Because it is a death trap for EVERYONE. Of the like 5-6 times I have spawned there, I was able to find a geared amd armed body within 5 minutes twice. Thus, I can get geared in 15 minutes at Elektro (6 5 min spawns divided by 2 geared bodies) vs 3 hours+ at ANY other spawn point. Now, I think they recognize this challenge, and have added the new city and the ship to the North to increase the value of that area. However, the south east of the map is still empty of valuable / good loot. Maybe they should add something interesting in the small village just north of Kam.
