I loved this. The number of people who didn't seem to get it was somewhat shocking however.

The incentive to not kill is the good feeling you get, the sense of power over others (allowing someone to live is as empowering as the rush of ending a players survivor), and the role playing opportunity. I don't think there is much else that could be done that wouldn't feel artificial and ruin the point of DayZ.

First time it happens it sucks. What I love is when you log out and can still see your old, fully geared survivor staring at you like he and the game are mocking you. I had to watch my old gear for two days before tha game started showing me my new player!

I am marginally confused by the existence of the masks. Does make recognizing teammates a bit easier though.

True. Of course, if I could reliably hit and kill anyone with my mosin, I would most likely do it more often!

I don't think zombie speed is the issue. Currently we are seeing two things taking away from the threat of zombies: 1. Unlimited stamina. We can run forever. A running human should be faster than a zombie. The Mod's twitch zombies looked silly, and weren't faster than a human. But making it so you can only sprint for a limited time will increase the threat by itself. 2. We have only a fraction of the zombies seen in the mod on any given area. This is probably good though since currently zombies can freely wander through walls, rise up through floors, or cruise around like some sort of crazy zombie landshark with half of their body beneath the ground. The clipping issues make massive zombie hordes an impossible to deal with issue in most cities and towns. You wouldn't want to go in a building because they would clip through and kill you.

I have done this on occasion, but I find it isn't all that user friendly. You drop the gun everytime you put anything else in your hand, which can lead to so awkward and terrifying moments. I generally do it to hold a weapon for a friend I am meeting up with.

I think the whole KOS thing is over stated. I meet plenty of people who don't shoot on sight. My first game, I met a fully geared buy searching a body. He swore at me and told me to take what I needed and get off the roof (it was the factory near Solychnyia). I had an M4 and a pile of other items and ammo. I realize now the guy took a huge risk. He was pointing a gun at me as I did the looting and when I looked back, he was watching me run up into the trees. I have bandaged several folks and ended up adding them to Steam and running with them later.

I saw 6 once and was mildly excited.

So you were just being unnecessarily sarcastic AND lazy. I hadn't seen the video. Looked pretty cool to me. You don't actually need to comment on or read every post.

Currently there is only a minute fraction of the zombies seen in the mod. Likewise, servers have a 40 player max, so not a lot of player interaction. Game looks great though. I am having fun with it. Runs really well compared to the mod.

I had a similar situation! I was killed and respawned, grabbed a fire axe that was near me and sprinted back to Nichnoya, where the fire fight was still going on. I am picking my way through the buildings, with one of my five friends relaying where the fight currently was (the wooded treeline to the south of town). I am hiding and see a lone guy making his way down the hill towards my house. He takes cover in a bush next to me and I rush over and axe him in the back twice before I hear one of my partners start screaming that he is under attack! We laughed about it, even though he eventually put himself down (no gear and black and white screen due to blood loss). It is just what makes the game cool.

Some of the most epic Dayz experiences come from the journey to join your friends. Picking a place on the map and everyone converging is great fun. As far as marking team mates, I say no. Try to remember what everyone looks like and go with it. In the middle of a battle, it can be tense and fun!

Most of the time there is a moon out, yet there really is no visibility. I have no issue turning up gamma and brightness, not sure what your experiences is showing you.

You cannot put on ruined clothes if they are on a body, though if clothes become ruined, they don't fall off you and they still allow you to carry some items!

So the "healthy" tag won't appear unless you are injured and regenerating missing blood? I have never seen it, but maybe that is because I haven't eaten enough or I haven't been hurt and had eaten enough!

Enemy will be able to track you by scat...

Dev blog pretty clearly state they aren't even going to be seeing Beta testing until late 2014. Don't expect a fast transition, you will be disappointed.

Are we confusing tactical vests with ballistic vests? I have only found tacticals at bases.

Bullets are both more and less lethal that games and Hollywood pretend. There is no such thing as a flesh wound, but there are slso times when people have been hit multiple times and not even noticed due to adrenaline. One shot kills outside of head or heart shots aren't really a thing. Yes, you can incapacitate someone and have them bleed out within a matter of seconds or minutes, but that it sort of what the unconsious mechanic is for right?

I like both styles. Honestly, third person lets you see how cool your survivor is. My issue with first person is that the game is about as stiff and unresponsive as an FPS out there. First person really highlights that.

Confession time. I spent five hours gearing yesterday morning. I was in Berenzino and found two fully geared dead bodies. Really strange I though. One was over looking the construction site. I assumed he got sniped moving and the sniper was still nearby. So I go and lay down behind the little wall next to the orchard and was watching his body. I call my buddy to come and get geared up. While laying there for ten minutes ( he was down in MCTA) these four guys in full military gear surround me like ninjas (I was stupidly moving things around in my inventory). They ask me if I am alone. I said yes. They ask what I am doing. I said I was watching the body over next to the house. They asked if I killed him. I said no. I then hear the sound of hand cuffs. I logged off. I was a bitch. I felt guilty immediately. I just couldn't bear the thought of losing my gear since the last two geared guys I had were reset by the game. I have learned a lesson though. It wasn't fair to those guys and it left me with some questions. Who were they? Were they hunting bandits? Were they the guys killing people (they had all the gear they needed after all so could have left the guns on those bodies), what might they have done to me? They easily could have killed me after all, and chose not to. Don't log folks, it ruins the damn game. I won't be doing it again. I'll die like a man. I can gear up quickly enough to have fun now anyway.
