The knock out level in this game is ridiculous. Even professional fighters, who hit lethally hard at their size, aren't able to have the success rates on knock downs exhibited in this game. I have done some boxing in my past, and pro or semi-pro fighters hit unbelievably hard. Your average Joe of the street on the other hand can hit and hurt you, but nobody is getting knocked out with a jab or cross at the rate seen here. That said, if a new spawn gets anywhere within 10 feet of me I tell them to back off. If they don't, they get shot.

With Work, I Wish I Had Friends To Play This Game With
PhillyT replied to crazyandlazy's topic in General Discussion
My steam name is the same as my Dayz Forum name. If you feel like it, we play fairly regularly, though I am on the east coast USA, so that may limit where and when you could play. No clue where you might be. Feel free to add me. I am not interested in friending killing if that is a thing (which it probably is according to the Ackbar meme!) -

After server operators got on it, there are plenty of daytime servers hear on the EST at night. -
With Work, I Wish I Had Friends To Play This Game With
PhillyT replied to crazyandlazy's topic in General Discussion
I opened was protecting my territory, Zelenegorsk, last night and saw two players near the jail behind the metal storage containers. One was bandaging. I had them in my ACOG sights for about 3 minutes. I could have killed one at any point, since he was apparently crouched and managing his inventory. The other was roaming around. I didn't know if they were hostile though and felt like I was too far away to call out (and being alone I didn't trust them enough to risk exposure anyway). I moved over to look and see if they had entered the jail yet and saw the door was open and a dead person was inside. At that point I decided to engage since they were either bandits or just aggressive most likely). I waited until one was in a barrack and fired off a few rounds at the second player. Unfortunately I was leaning too close to the wall and my rounds dug into the wall and didn't go anywhere. Lacking back up and not liking my odds against two geared players without the element of surprise, I moved downtown and set up an ambush in the cafe building overlooking the square. They never came (I assume they were server hopping or got scared off). Most of the time I run with two or three other people. Had that been the case, I would have stayed and held the up or risked questioning them. In this case, I was forced to be more careful. Having friends with you makes it far easier to approach others and reduces the total risks by giving you extra eyes. -
I am legitimately scared every time I log in

My wife makes fun of me because I legitimately get the adrenaline shakes sometimes. When I log in, I get this sinking in my stomach and my hands get all clammy... She ridicules me endlessly for it. -
The Real Reason Loot Doesn't Spawn In Tents Anymore / Some Houses
PhillyT replied to Admiral_69's topic in General Discussion
It is a theory, which he supported with a statement from Dean. Could it be the reason? It is plausible. -
If it is a strippr clip, then it will still be a 5 rounder. It just makes it easy to load. I have a Mosin (they are like $80 here in Maine) and it wouldn't be possible to get 10 rounds in as far as I can tell. But then again, my mosin can't hit crap, unlike the sniper version on the game! The iron sights are horrid.

It makes me play a little less cautiously. I would rather go down in a gun fight than survive and play super careful, only to get the dreaded reset! I have never had that specific warning though, I normally just log in and hear those damn waves...

Rocket answers to everyone who complains about 3D view
PhillyT replied to gamer222's topic in General Discussion
Whoa there Soulfirez, chill son. If what you saw in that post was dumb, so be it. But yes, your previous post give the clear implication that hardcore servers are harder in some way. They aren't "harder" though since everyone is playing by the same set of rules. Like I said, in a normal server, if a person refuses to use 3PP, they will be at a disadvantage. As far as not knowing what I am talking about, again, nothing I said in the post gives that impression. I have played the MOD (only a small amount though) and am a 36 year old man with a lifetime of gaming experience. I have enough understanding to make comments based on my observations. As far as the restricted view, my point was not that the 1PP perspective is just restricted compared to 3PP, it was that something about the ARMA II engine makes 1PP even more stiff and restricted than normal 1PP games. It is a clunky, poorly designed system that unnaturally restricts both view and movement. 3PP helps to solve at least some of that. -
I told my buddy the same thing. Anyone stupid enough to wear those stupid Payday masks is up to no good. Anyone wearing a gasmask has been somewhere dangerous and is probably not to be trusted.

That is pretty weird. Maybe he assumed you didn't have ammo?

Rocket answers to everyone who complains about 3D view
PhillyT replied to gamer222's topic in General Discussion
It isn't harder though. Everyone in a 1PP server is similarly restricted. People in a regular server have the same sets of tools. If everyone is similarly restricted then there isn't a change in difficulty, just a change in the manner the game is represented. Now if you are on a regular server and refuse to use 3PP, then that is a difference in difficulty since you are intentionally limiting yourself. But lets not make hardcore into some fabricated special classification where only the l33t go to play the game. I happen to find 3PP gives me back a little bit of the visibility and awareness that the horrific 1PP setting takes away. I also like to see my character. They look so cool. -
What Alpha Is Supposed To Be (A Discussion On Dev Direction And If The Game Will Ever Be Completed)
PhillyT replied to jovlon's topic in General Discussion
My buddy said he thinks the game is much further than a year from Beta, which I was shocked by, but he knows better than me! -
I got really upset the first three times I lost a geared guy. Now I enjoy it. I like the process of regearing, the sense of liberation with being more care free since you have little to lose, and the struggle for survival. But good god, first couple times are gut wrenching!

It isn't harder. Everyone is subject to the same restriction. That just changes presentation, not difficulty. -
What Alpha Is Supposed To Be (A Discussion On Dev Direction And If The Game Will Ever Be Completed)
PhillyT replied to jovlon's topic in General Discussion
Assuming the game never progresses beyond where it is, I have already gotten more than $30 of fun and play out of it. If 100 hours at $30 isn't a success, I don't know what is. I have a friend also in game development. He echoed much of what the OP is saying, that he is suspicious that they will be able to produce a complete product that is satisfactory. -
It looked like desyncing with people popping in and out. As far as the new spawn, a person with their fists out will run WAY faster than a person with a fire arm in their hand. Slyguy: I have had decent luck with the shotgun. I have never one shotted anyone from 50 yards though! I have had good luck with two shot kills at that range. Then again, I had to shoot a zpombie twice with buckshot at 10 feet. Very variable damage currently (in the same scenario, my buddy one shotted zombies with the long shotgun).
-
Especially when using the shotgun. WOrked fine in this case. Tough to win a fight against an M4 with a double barrel, but this kid did it and did it well! Punchy McNewspawn ruined the party.
-
Shotgun was surprisingly effective in that video! Also, why was the punching guy so stoked to deck you when there were two geared dead men right there? It worked out for him, but why not take the guns off the bodies?
-
An SKS makes sense given its commonality and prevalence. They made thousands of them and they spread out pretty rapidly during and after the Vietnam era. The 7.62/39mm round is also about the most common round there is, making feeding it an easy fit.

I am thoroughly entertained by the apparent supposition that 1PP players are somehow better than or more capable than 3PP people. -
The most profoundly important question ever asked to rocket

Does eating rotten food really leave you with a bad taste in your mouth sometime after having eaten it? -
It will be a fun weapon for what it is. It has no characteristics that make it an improvement over the AK47 other than being semi-automatic and so better for mid range fire accuracy. Still, a nice weapon to fit between the M4 and the mosin. Where will it spawn though? Not really military, so maybe residential.

Some people may want to have a more leisurely experience. I enjoy gearing on a full server. It feels more authentic. But I have, at times, logged into lower pop servers because I just want to have the journey without the stress of being popped by some KOS guy.
