The guns are a bit off, but I will comment mostly on the OP. The M4 is not automatically better than the Mosin, and I am not even sure at 400 - 500m it out performs the SKS in terms of power. M4 is a better pure weapon, but the SKS has similar energy. The Mosin is more powerful at all ranges, and is actually lethal at 500m whereas the M4 really isn't without multiple shots or serious luck. At 200m, the Mosin is carrying nearly 3 times the energy. At 500 it is an even greater difference.

What to expect from the Ruger 10/22
PhillyT replied to JalapaJuiceJerry's topic in General Discussion
The 10/22 was voted in but it is a gun without purpose. It is weak, I would assume rare in Russia (and therefore Chernarus), and short ranged. I just don't see a purpose other than shooting rabbits. You would need to empty all 10 rounds into a person to have a sure chance of killing them. -
Pretty much my experience! THey normally pull out a melee weapon and head right at you mumbling something stupid like "Warriors, come out and play!" Double barrel. Good bye moron.

I love the masks. It allows me the only KOS that I do. If you are wearing one of those stupid masks, you deserve to die.

My favorite things is to do random acts of kindness. Makes for great stories for players!

Loot farming server owners, and why the server browser is to blame
PhillyT replied to todd10k's topic in General Discussion
I pick a couple servers I like (Trainwreckers and Zombz.net) and stay there. I only go elsewhere if those are down or full. -
100man servers... my biggest fear has been realised.
PhillyT replied to Cenobyte's topic in General Discussion
I love the idea of higher population servers. When you can be in Berezino, Polana, and Dolina and not meet a single player in an hour long period on a 40 man server, you have some strange things going on! Likewise, in 2 hours we met no players in the Zeleno, Green Mountain, Vybor, NWAF chain. -
I make a distinction. Bambi - New player New Spawn - New Spawn You can play around with a bambi, help[ them out, give them direction and advice. A New Spawn you need to be wary of. They are players like us, and are either angry or aware. You can normally tell the difference by how they move. If they are only hitting those areas where loot spawns (taverns, cafe, etc.) they are most likely New Spawn. You can still help them out, but you need to be aware of that.

Honey, pretend to be a badass in your own little troll cave. Let the grown ups talk. -
You are talking some Night Crawler shit here man. It sounds far too precise.

I am at around the same play time and have also never seen anything suspicious other than a single occasion.

I am not going to say this sounds odd, but the level of control that is being implied here begs many questions. Are teleport hacks THAT accurate? Are they that easy to execute? I can't even pick up my own gun off the ground without looking like an ass, how did this guy scoop it up and teleport away with it?

There are times, on some servers, where food and/or water aren't necessary. I have also heard that some lives end up glitching and a similar thing happens.

I have ditched my down jacket in Hardcore. It is impossible to see anything! I will say, I play quite a lot of Hardcore. I still contend it isn't any more difficult, just different. It does however make you realize just how little the lean actually helps you. The guy doesn't hardly get any extra look while leaning and in many cases, if you shoot while leaning, you will bore a hole in the wall you are hiding behind.

So I have been testing humanity's trust over the last few days on Chernerus. It has been quite enlightening! This is the scenario: 1. I must make verbal contact with any player I meet before I am allowed to respond with fire. The exception is if I am fired upon first. 2. If I meet a friendly player who doesn’t have a gun, I ask them the following: “Hello there, do you have a moment to assist me?” If they do not have a mic, I wish them a good day after asking if they need anything. If they are miced and agree, I ask them “I am testing the humanity of my fellow survivors. I am going to offer you a firearm. I only ask that you walk away when we are done and do not shoot me.” So far, everyone has agreed. The firearm I offer is my M4, which is fully kited including an ACOG and pristine. I have a ruined 30 round magazine in it to start. I also carry a B29 and a .357. The first time I tossed the M4 to the ground, the player picked it up and stood awkwardly for several seconds before trying to shoot me with it. I drew my .357 and killed him. The second time, the player took the gun, then said that the magazine was ruined. I gave him a new magazine but asked him not to load it in until he was out of eyeshot (we were in the woods behind the Factory north of Solichnya). He picked it up, backed away, and immediately attempted to move behind a tree while still looking at me (I told him to turn around and move directly away back toward the gas station). I shot him with my pistol. The third player gratefully, but confusedly, accepted my M4. He then immediately followed my directions and began moving towards the Lumber Yard in Berezino (we met at the grocery store and I asked him to head that way after picking up the gun). I let him get about 40m before yelling to him to stop. He halted and I told him that the magazine was ruined and gave him the three 60 round magazines I was carrying in my security case. He emptied his pants, took the box, and thanked me before we parted company. So not bad. The third player I met was a nice fellow and we left in peace. I got the idea to try this last week when I met a player at the construction yard. I took a risk and gave him the sawed off I was carrying and 20 shells plus three speed loaders (I had too many guns). He was very polite, thanked me, and we split up in peace. I should point out that I met several players without mics, none of whom attacked me. Honestly, gearing is fun and characters are reset fairly often, so it isn’t THAT great a risk to try things like this!

Or is it the perfect time? With around 150 hours in, I have had my character killed by invisible zombies, clipping through walls and falling to my death, resets, and just regular murders. When you can lose everything to a glitch, why not freshen up your experience with the only thing that really makes DayZ special, the players?
-
Just keep in mind, you need to be willing to get shot! I have found Hardcore servers are FAR more likely to have players who will just open fire when they see you, because often, you aren't within range to communicate by the time they see you. And even when you are, they open fire anyway. Probably because most Hardcore players have been playing long enough to shoot M4 armed players hanging out on the East Coast as a matter of course (after all, most are spawn killers).

A motor cycle helmet gives similar protection. Also, a pristine ballistic helmet doesn't usually stop a kill shot from a mosin. Even a direct hit to the helmet will often kill. The only round it can save you from consistently is a .45 or M4 round, and even then, how many rounds are coming in on you?
-
I don't wear ballistic helmets. EVeryone wears them and honestly, they really don't offer much protection. Motor cycle helmets are a better defense since melee attacks are a greater danger. I like cowboy hats and beanies.

Hardcore is no easier or more difficult. It changes some of the ways the game is played. Since all players are playing by the same sets of rules, the game is similarly difficult. Most entertaining to me is this bizarre idea that playing Hardcore is somehow an elite status. Look, you can pat yourself on the back about being all Hardcore, but the fact of the matter is it isn't any more L33t than regular. I don't enjoy Hardcore very much because I have never met a friendly player there. Everyone is shoot on site, probably because they are jaded. In regular servers you at least run into folks who are either new enough to talk or relaxed enough to discuss things. There is a much better mix.
-
Oh, did they add 3PP in the MOD? I thought it was native to ARMA.
-
I play both regularly. They are different styles. Hardcore isn't any harder, it can actually be much easier, which is relaxing. I move around a lot. I don't sit and snipe. That makes Hardcore a much better experience because I can confidently make my way out of the woods knowing I will see the person shooting at me when they shoot as opposed to 3PP where you need to be aware of the walls people might be hiding behind. I like having two separate characters too, makes it much easier to just enjoy myself. But come on guys, lets not give each other the Silver Star for playing Hardcore. It isn't any harder than regular.

I wear an orange one at has the rule of cool, but no practical value.

Oh I see. I can't imagine they will let this last long. Seems to just be a conflict with the player animation (they can't render a player with a gun in his hand in that sitting position) so he drops it, yet the game data still registers the load out for the player.
