If you think that will remain true on stable or final release, you don't have standards, you have a critical lack of basic knowledge.
-
Well where are the ATC towers other than the airfields? I think the number one reason everything is happening on the coast is the spawn points. You still can't get a fully fitted M4 without making the run on airfields or Vybor.
-
What is this with military spawns on the coast? What are people calling military spawns? The only thing in the game that currently falls under "military" is the M4. Yes they appear in the school, but it is easier to run to NEAF to try and score one.
-
I took a break to play ESO for a month and came back to find I really enjoyed it again. I think the patches will keep making the game better. I am tempering my play so as to not burn out the fun completely before the full game is released.

Go to Berezino.

Are snipers the most harmless thing in DayZ?
PhillyT replied to bauertschi's topic in General Discussion
Sometimes. The original poster is right, they are mostly harmless. With the ranges that they are firing the only time they can get a player is when that player stands still. If one is over watching a village from a good position and they can see players moving through, there are times when they get that perfect opportunity. SImilarly, if a couple players are talking in the street, that gives them a chance. But 9/10 times the bullet wings off something nearby, everyone goes all serpentine, and the sniper gets to sit in his bush pouting for another hour or so. -
Personally, I think the current values are fine. Most people do not, so in order to better assist them through the troubled state they are in, I attempted to point out that removing dispersion doesn't equate to real, since the dispersion could be explained as a means of reducing firearm effectiveness in a manner mimicking civilians. I will be perfectly honest here and say that I find those crying about dispersion to be both tiring and weak. I have killed many people with every gun other than the SKS (despite trying repeatedly - can't get comfortable with it) and the CZ pistol (well the .22's either, but they aren't really guns). Anyone who claps on about the MOA on the M4 is being ridiculous. None of the dispersion currently in the game is significant enough to impact a good player in an environment they have established. Far worse things are at work, latency being the most egregious, that impact the ability of one player to kill another.
-
And similarly, no need to post dozens of ridiculous threads about the dispersion. But if people are going to be silly and argue about values, while ignoring many factors that could have an impact, then pointing out that the numbers are in there for a variety of reasons, balance being one and place holders being another.
-
M4 and Mosin. Magnum for secondary.
-
From the sound of things, I think there were serious lag/latency issues going on which may have contributed to both the OP survival and that of his target. Concerning the shotgun, I once killed a squad of fully geared players in Zeleno by dipping in and out behind buildings and shooting a sawed off. Took over 30 rounds to kill the three, but it worked. Another time, I killed two fully geared guys in a house in Berezino. Both times were ambushes or course, but they worked out well. Then or course there are the multiple times where I shot two rounds at close range and did apparently nothing so there you have it, the shotguns are strange.
-
The shotgun is both great and terrible. Currently, it is the most inconsistent weapon in the game. At times it is a one shot kill, at others it takes multiple dumps to even affect a man. The sawed off is even worse for the inconsistency.
-
The only reason the M4 is the current choice for the US infantry is the fast rate of fire and controllability (and inexpensive ammo). As far as bad shooting habits, familiarity with basic rifles might explain the Mosin. Most of the other guns aren't terrifically accurate or easy to shoot either. Pistols in particular aren't very good for anything past 30m which is quite accurate.
-
Maybe for you, but plenty of people on here are throwing absurd rules and expectations with the apparent goal of trying to make this game "real" which is silly and impossible. I wasn't taking your statement as bragging Shadow. I own an AR15. It is very accurate. Both in life and in the game, you can hit a man sized target while prone at 300m or so. But discussions about dispersion etc. ignore the fact that these are place holder values and that dispersion currently mimics the bad shooting habits of real people. And even with those issues, the M4 is the best gun for under 100m engagements, which is the norm.
-
The Hill Kill is a fun little glitch right now!
-
Actually it is exactly a measure of effectiveness. BEing able to pick up a weapon and shoot a person while surviving yourself is the whole point of the weapon. And 100m isn't point blank. It is almost the typical engagement range. 100m - 200m is the norm in military small arms engagements if I recall. You can hit a man sized target prone in this too. And if you are arguing that they should reflect it in sway, then the current system is still fine, since the magpul parts reduce dispersion and you are asking that they reduce sway, which is what you want to see as the effect of sway. Really though, you accuracy realists act as though the character's irongripped retention of centering and complete lack of any parallax issues are both totally normal. You also ignore plenty of other real issues with shooting, like flinching (a HUGE issue for civilian shooters) and trigger squeeze. If you want to be realism wanks, what about requiring 20 - 50 shots to zero a new optic? Taking out a wrench to adjust the range? Give me a break. Some body gets mad because they put the crosshair on their target and the gun still missed. Welcome to reality internet warriors, it happens on the range and in the field everyday. But you don't pull up a spreadsheet and vent your nerd rage when it happens in real life. You shoot again.

Are snipers the most harmless thing in DayZ?
PhillyT replied to bauertschi's topic in General Discussion
I am not sure the very rudimentary bullet drop in Dayz or ARMA equals real physics. -
The M4 is far more accurate than that. When you can pick up an M4 without a single pristine part and kill a pair of bandits 100m away on a single STANAG mag, there is no need to complain.
-
I thought so to, but there are some Mosin that are extremely accurate and have succeeded in extremely long ranged shots. Similarly, leave an M4 laying around the countryside for a few weeks exposed to the elements and see how good its desperation is.
-
I generally agree, though there are significant differences in long range fire. The M4 is a fantastic gun and effectively represents the weapon in the game. The M4 is good for what it is, though the fact that .308 still sees use in the US military as they seek an M4 replacement should show that it isn't the katana that its lover's think.
-
I don't agree. The M4 performs very well as the sole assault weapon in the game. It is the go to weapon of bandits for a reason.
-
Modifying dispersion for handguards and the like is silly, but if they are using dispersion to reflect the poor handling abilities of civilians, the M4 is fine. It is still the best gun in the game for exchanges less than 150m.
-
Well define unreal properties? What gun has unreal properties? And don't say the M4, because it isn't really that far off.

Make 15%ish chance for pistols to spawn with magazines
PhillyT replied to Bruce of Wayne's topic in General Discussion
I agree in theory Bruce, from a gaming perspective. Looking for a magazine is part of the game. But why bother when the .357 is so good and needs no magazine? Similarly, pistols are so inferior to the long arms that there are no real reason to keep one after you have actually found a magazine (which normally requires a military base run and so a better weapon). -

I agree Irish. Curiously, I find way more speed loaders than magazines in the game, yet in real life, I have owned three different revolvers and not a single speed loader. Chernarus was apparantly a dumping ground for speedloaders. Maybe that was what they were transporting in the boat at Riffy? -

From a realism perspective, they should almost always include a magazine. From a gaming perspective they should ALWAYS have a magazine. The .357 is so good because it doesn't need one.
