Frams Per Second since the last patch +Poll.
Window Licker replied to TomatoSupra's topic in General Discussion
I'm gonna assume the OP is talking about current stable, I switched to experimental as soon as the 1st patch hit it and got a decent improvement in fps, hell even turned some of my setting up a little, then the .42 hit experimental and I'm not dropping out in cities anymore, not saying thats gonna be everyone's experience but my comp is about half the op's specs. Edit: my .cfg files are also modified. -
"Private Servers" exist and it does no good to report them
Window Licker replied to thequantum's topic in General Discussion
First it's bullshit that they are getting away with it, I'm guessing villayer are more concerned with keeping their customers then enforcing their rules. For as often as this seems to be happening I feel it is time for BIS to take some steps in resolving issues if a hosting service refuses to abide by the rules laid out. Second it's a rented server it's still connected to the public hive and until BIS are ready to create a separate hive, which from my guess will be post-beta, then this is people paying to exploit the system and gain an advantage similar to paying to win. This is an early access alpha and people who skew the systems in place or create an unbalanced playing environment make it harder for the dev team to effectively balance the game because the variables keep changing. I'm guessing this is why the rules where put in place in the first place. Thirdly the players who are doing this obviously don't have the skill to handle a public server and need to be in an environment devoid of other players in order to be *cough* "good" When they switch back to the true public servers they more or less function as a gun delivery service for the more skilled players. Finally I would like to think that when loot spawning make's it's way into the game this kind of behavior will be punished in the sense that the server would be "okay no players, spawn base loot", "oh there we go 2 joined, still good no need to spawn yet" "Sweet another 10 joined, lets spawn a few more guns etc" "what this server is over half full?! Time to spawn a M4!!" or something like that so only players on more populated servers would actually have a chance of getting the high end guns. -
I'm not quite that hardcore but I have heavily modified my cfg files, the only time I've had a wipe was playing on a "l0075 24/7 reset fast gear" server I really don't understand how people are having this much of an issue.

Routes to take for the best gear possible in as little time as possible.
Window Licker replied to Nonapona2's topic in New Player Discussion
No disrespect OP but you missed several towns, and have chosen arguably the most looted route's that there are. I feel it would be wise to advise people that maybe death from starvation, bandits or murder will come to those who follow these maps unless they are among the first to walk that path. It's not that they aren't good routes but unless you're in the first 10-15 people to walk them then finding a gun will be hard, and food even more so. The best routes are the once that change according to what is happening on the server via observation and experience. -
How do you deal with zombies?
Window Licker replied to Death By Crowbar's topic in General Discussion
I beat them to death with my bare fists once you get the hang of KOing them it's pretty easy just don't fight more then one. I don't pick a fight with them, but if they are stopping me from a good loot spot Tyson here I come. -
Very curious about choice of gender.
Window Licker replied to DesertSage's topic in General Discussion
Pretty much sum's it up for me in an mmo I'll choose a female most of the time, DayZ however I go with a guy, makes sense, however I was just playing with a random friendly and that was a black girl/actually a guy. -

It also means when you walk down stairs and break your legs you'll rag doll the rest of the way and broken legs will turn into broken neck, should put an end to complaints about stairs.

Establishment of Background Lore for DayZ - Essential
Window Licker replied to Katana67's topic in General Discussion
I love a good bit of lore but considering our character just wakes up on a beach, it would be a little hard to back story in a way that would make sense for all survivors on an entire server and tbh I don't really like the whole "your special" just like everyone else thing that a lot of mmo's pull. For me personally I'd really like to see some of the books in game spawn as journals of survivors and the life and times during the outbreak from individual's living thru the event. It's not something that's overly required but at the same time adds to the richness and feeling of the world, it's something that I would indeed actually stop and read in game. So maybe Dean can pop over to the RP forums and ask them for help they'd love the prospect of having their tale being part of the game and considering the large body of work those forums has already produced it would be a nod to them and help the DayZ community grow as a whole. -
How dose one not starve in a 50 slot experimental server?
Window Licker replied to exomonkeyman's topic in General Discussion
I played for a good portion of time ~3 hours running around the coast and coastal towns, I found a single can of pipsi, I also took some time to get re-acquainted with nature and mother nature was *kinda* rewarding for that, a belly full of berries (berries need some work but wtf it's alpha) and I survived just fine. While they aren't my first choice of food, due to how much of a pain in the arse they are to harvest they will get you through in a tough patch. Also I know I'm supposed to get off the coast but that wasn't the point of this experiment. -
Player Change game file and not Banned
Window Licker replied to atarugolan's topic in General Discussion
This video is actually a little dated and a .pbo check system has since been implemented I'm not sure how effective it is tho think it kicks players from the server almost immediately. Had something occur where I kept getting kicked but it was resolved with exiting and stem updating the game before I went back in. -

Establishment of Background Lore for DayZ - Essential
Window Licker replied to Katana67's topic in General Discussion
Some lovely forum member posted a while ago a link to a DayZ RP site which had their version of event's running from Patient 0 / Day 0 it was a pretty entertaining read and had dates/timelines for everything. I had a quick look but can't find it right now I'll edit if I do. -
I really don't know where this 2 years number keeps coming from, the alpha was release late last year unless you count the mod as being part of the standalone, which it isn't. Respawning Zombies have been on experimental since .37 and the loot respawning system is planned but need to be properly balanced, I can see particular issues with that happening due to issues of some spawn points being out of place. I don't understand why there is such demand for respawning loot. there is a butt ton on the servers now (experimental which has less then current stable imo) and I sincerely hope it get reduced when the respawn system is put in place. On a side note, claiming that "many others" feel the same way really points out the lack of support for your point of view imo, for if there was "many others" then there would be "many more" responses to this thread, this is the internet and people have never had an issue with speaking up around here. Edit: the main reason I don't mind the current loot situation is because I take care and think about where to go instead of mindlessly running about, on several occasion's I've found building's that are "worthless" or "don't spawn" loot which are in fact rather good stashes of assorted items, best thing is no matter how looted out a server is people just run by and starve to death while I'm loaded with food. If your primary concern is actually gun's then I think your going to be in for a shock when having a mosin + lrs will be as rare as an M4 and half the server is using bows and crossbows as weapons.
-
Suppose we are gonna stick on the flag for the "New Chernarus Republic"?
-
I've given a couple of M4's away, back when they where common items, now I debate about picking one up unless I can get enough ammo to last until I die, 30 rounds is usually enough.

experimental 42 impressions and suggestions
Window Licker replied to commanderbash's topic in Suggestions
For Backpacks, I'm fine with the spawn rates I like having to choose very carefully about what to carry and what to discard and it makes finding them much more rewarding I got so excited the other day when I found a burlap sack as I'd been carrying a rope and sticks around for a while and had made hard decisions about what to throw away in order to keep them on me. Item Spawns, Similar to backpack's they are much more spread out but again I like figuring out where to go, having more planning in the game on a hope that it works out as opposed to simply running mindlessly to the next destination. Mag's and ammunition, In a zombie apocalypse these would be the first thing's I would grab after food and water, an event like this took time and those outside the area of primary infection knew it was coming and would have prepared themselves accordingly. The mags are a pain in the ass and I do think the spawns for them need adjusting. Fully agree with being able to reload a half empty weapon provided the irl equivalent has a system that allows it like the magnum. Painting is also broken for the ruger 22 or whatever they call it, when you paint one it simply says the texture is missing and leaves the gun plain. Reloading is tedious for weapons without the mags/strip/speed loaders, personally I like the feel it has with me having my ammo rattling around in my pocket instead of in the appropriate loading mechanism. I can't think of a different way to handle that, but I keep my inventory organized to cut down on reload time when I'm in this situation. Melee weapons, yeah I have some bones to pick on that front too, mostly that my character will sometimes decide to stop and stand still while pulling it out. The changes in stance, are a touch annoying but I like the addition as a whole but it needs more work with the client/server communication. -
I'd imagine you'd still be able to wriggle out the same you can now, it would just mean you'd be stuck in one place, you can only walk with cuff's on right now so it's not like your going anywhere fast.
-
*cough* what about to say vehicles or would that be a little too far? also what about to each other you could drag a prisoner around or daisy chain them together, nothing more fun then a conga line at gun point.

Will We Ever Be Able To Have At Least 40 FPS In Cities and Everywhere
Window Licker replied to 360Nation's topic in General Discussion
I can get ~30 in the cities with cfg modifications on this rig (on current experimental) http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883227510 So if your compy is better then this, perhaps review your settings. I wouldn't recommend buying above computer unless you have the cash for upgrading it, in which case just buy a better one. -
Yeah there is defiantly some things happening, sometimes I can run right past them and they are busy daydreaming about brains and don't notice, far more often, I run past and get mobbed.

Will We Ever Be Able To Have At Least 40 FPS In Cities and Everywhere
Window Licker replied to 360Nation's topic in General Discussion
I've found the last experimental, or driver update, has put a stop to all my lagging in cites I was running about in the apartment complexes and had no issues like I normally do, maybe they addressed that in .42 -
I did do some not very scientific testing a while back with it, from what I recall screwdrivers and knives will generally leave you with about 70%-80% of the can where a axe will give between 60%-70% I don't know it that's still accurate because I use a screwdriver out of habit, in my mind I wildly stab the top of the can.

Every single experimental server ive gone too has been looted already.
Window Licker replied to wmike20052's topic in General Discussion
Honestly that doesn't sound suspicious at all, if I carried all the food I find then I'd have no room for guns/ammo in fact I'd prolly puke eating to pick up the new food, players who already have sufficient supplies will only be searching for guns and ammo. Closing door behind me is something I do when I either take nothing/very little from a location so that a new spawn will investigate and find food and other treasure I've left behind or if I don't want anyone to know I've been there. Edit: In response to OP there is several places that I've taken to looting because they "Don't spawn treasure" it happened last patch or the one before, I forget where I had a building that I could loot which generally contained large amounts of food and occasionally a weapons, untill someone else discovered it and then it was all over the forums and now they get raided every time I go there. So look harder.
