So you've already had a number of replies to this one, I can only add this link: http://www.reddit.com/r/dayz/comments/1w7nmv/a_guide_to_looting_and_buildings/ And I'll leave you with a list of towns/villages that I would definitely recommend paying a visit: PolanaDolinaNovy Sobor - Stary Sobor - Kabanino (careful, lot's of people go here for loot)ZelenogorskPustoshkaIf you don't know where to go, there's allways the map Good luck, maybe we'll run into each other sometime.

Played on a 1st Person server last night...
bazvink replied to libertine's topic in General Discussion
Regarding this, what you could try is double-tapping the "Q" or "E" keys (or whatever you have mapped to leaning). If you double-tap (same as when sprinting), it "locks" your player in the lean mode. Then you can slowly side-step to carefully peak around corners. Or you can also press and hold the lean key. I don't think this is exactly what you're looking for, but it may be a start. I'm slowly moving to hardcore servers myself, but still finding it hard to kick the 3rd person habit. -
Seconded. It needs to be secure though, but I guess you just need to copy whatever ANY mmorpg has already invented. Can't be too difficult.

Rolling Changelog: Stable Branch: 0.32.114557
bazvink replied to rocket's topic in News & Announcements
Yea, it's a delicate balance, because you don't want people to be able to run back to their previous corpse, but you do want to give the "killer" the oppertunity to loot the corpse. And if you're in a larger gunfight (multiple players) it make be more than 10 minutes before one side has the oppertunity to loot. -
I saw what you did there.... :P

offcourse! because anybody running around in their johnnies during a zombie apocalypse needs to be shot ;)

Why does every person with a gun shoot on sight?
bazvink replied to joeymp's topic in General Discussion
LOL... I ran into a fella at the NWAF. We both had M4's. I waved, he waved back. He even asked if I wanted to loot the tech building he was about to enter. I told him he could have it. We said our goodbyes and went on our way. 5 minutes later I was at the other end of the airfield and somebody ( not the guy mentioned above ) shot me in the back. The first couple of times you get KOS'd, it's very frustrating. But after a while you simple shrug it off and start again. To be honest, when you're fully geared, pristine M4, 200+ bullets, two handguns, a medikit, maybe an ammo box and 2 packs of rice... the game is too easy. No zombie is a threat and as long as you see the other guy first, no survivor is either. I remember the last time I got KOS'd, I felt a sense of relief. Now I could start from scratch, I had a goal again. Running around with a fully geared character had me thinking: "so NOW what do I do?". When my current character dies (can't be too long off now :P ) i'm considering taking a minimalist approach: no guns, only a melee weapon and concentrate on getting my health up. Then maybe try to overpower some high gear players by using stealth and tactics. We'll see... -
Well... for about 1 or 2 hours, then he gets killed :D (in my experience)

Level KOS with share/trade, earlier sound warnings and shout option
bazvink replied to mike miller's topic in Suggestions
The OP has some good suggestions, but I agree with the second poster that they probably won't affect KOS much. Nonetheless, this game needs a "trade" screen, for easier sharing/trading. Personally, I think the only way you can really take care of KOS is if you give servers the option to disable pvp. I've posted this in a few other threads: I definatey feel that pvp (and indirectly, KOS) is a vital part that makes Dayz such a success, but I can imagine that some folks can't appreciate it. They could move over to a pve server and be happy. The rest of us could stick to the pvp servers and run the risk of getting shot in the back of the head for no reason. I must mention, though, that at the current status of the game, it is too easy to get geared up. Just log on to a 24/7 server (one that restarts every 2 or 4 hours) and camp out at the NWAF or military base. Yes there's a risk, but 9 times out of 10 you can get reasonably geared up. I think that this will change in future updates. I think the devs are going to make it harder to gear up, and I hope they will also make the environment more dangerous (more/stronger zombies, wild animals) so that the survivors worry more about the environment (and team-up to defeat the environment) than they do about other survivors. As I'm typing this, I'm starting think about what the goal of Dayz actually is. Because if the real goal of the game is survival... then why not remove guns completely? or limit it to handguns and vary scare ammo? -
Even though they're digital, you can just see those three guys at the end thinking "WTF??" :D
-
If you play on a restarting server (one that auto-restarts every 2 or 4 hours) you'll allways have enough loot. I've never felt the need to hop to another server for loot. I see your point, and to a degree I agree with you, but if/when they implement degrading of equipment, then eventually there will be no weapons at all. Or canned food. I suppose the absence of canned food can be compensated by a hunting system (hunt for food). The absence of weapons could possibly be compensated with a crafting system, but I get the feeling that in the end, we'd all be degraded to pointy-stick-wielding cavemen :P (because clothes would also degrade).

I think I'm missing the issue here. Can't you just hit 'Esc' and then hit 'Respawn'? This kills your character and you can start fresh... That's about as suicidal as it gets. Edit: and when you're unconscious, logging of the server will also kill your character.

No loot at castles and ruins, but why not swords? lol
bazvink replied to Cydone's topic in General Discussion
and then charge a squad of M4A1-toting bandits  "Freeeeeedooooom!" -
could... someone explain to me how this works..... ;)

Check all barns, check all farmhouses. The thing with the Mosin is that it's not a military weapon, so it spawns in residential area's, not at the airfields. And those burnt out cars: GOLD MINE. They have some great loot sometimes.

are people trying to make the SA to friendly?
bazvink replied to dgeesio's topic in General Discussion
I would plead for a more hostile environment, so more zombies that are also stronger than the current batch. Ultimately, this game is about surviving in a zombie infested environment, but right now the ONLY threat are the other survivors. Zombies are only slightly dangerous if you're unarmed (even a shovel can be lethal if used correctly). I do think that PVP and survivors kiling each other (even KOS) is a part of the game, but your primary goal should be to survive the environment. One thing I would like to see though is the aggro range of zombies either tuned down or made a bit more realistic. I sometimes get charged down by zombies who were standing on the other side of town. For pete's sake, I had time to shoulder my Mosin, blow my nose, tie my shoelaces and pull out my axe before the poor Z was close enough to get clobbered. If we're going to have a lot more zombies, we need to have a way for fresh spawns to sneak around them effectively. I've also thought about having pvp and pve servers, but I think ultimately you're going to miss the pvp aspect. In the end, the only problem with Dayz is that there are players who get off on serial killing everyone they see. There's not much that you can do about THAT. -
I think I found the rarest item in the game so far

Last night I found a blood test kit for the first time in 40+ hours of play. Turns out I'm A+. -
1) Last unofficial number we heard on this is 4 hours. 2) most likely a bug, but I too prefer to just log off instead of wait on the respawn.

Or are you anticipating Dual Wield to be added in the next update? ;)

A more realistic CAMPFIRE ingredients that is already available in game
bazvink replied to CGNoodlePot (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I agree, and imagine sitting on top of a hill at night, watching the campfires come to life across the countryside as survivors begin digging in for the night. That would be a spectacular view. -

Admittedly, there's not much humanity left after a zombie apocalypse..... -
You could consider throwing away the shotgun shells. There are currently no shotguns in Dayz, so you're wasting precious inventory space. Granted, you will have a slight advantage when shotguns are finally added, but I think it's realistic to assume that that will not happen in the foreseeable future. Just my 2 cents.

Eat more. Much more. Basically, from spawn, it took me a box of cereals and around 10 cans of beans/spaghetti + water, water, water to finally reach a healing/healthy state. I should note, though, that most of the cans were opened with a kitchen knife, so I only had around 70% of the can (after spillage). The basic strategy is: eat everything you find, when you find it. You need the nutrition to reach a healthy state, and saving up wastes inventory space. Just eat em as soon as you can, and whenever you come across a well, drink till you see the "My stomach is full" (or similar) message. Keep doing that and you will eventually hit the healing/healthy state. And once you're there, you don't need to eat as much to keep at that level. But I still eat everything I find. I try to have no more than 1, max 2 food items in my inventory. Just a waste of space. I can say that seeing that little green "Healthy" bar in your inventory is probably the most gratifying experience in Dayz.

After numerous respawns (most involuntary), I've now got a reasonably geared character. My pride and joy is my fully stocked Mosin 9130, with long-range scope, Atlas bipod and even a bayonet (for that civil war look). Funny thing is, I use it mainly to scope towns and locations from a distance before moving in  Besides that, I have: medikit with extra bandages (took out the bloodbag)2 canteens and 1 water bottlehandcuffs and keys (not that I'll ever use them)compassMagnum (no ammo though)a fireaxesome cans and a box of cereal. And a can opener.about 18 disinfected rags and two Saline Bag IV's.about 40 rounds of 7.64 ammo (or whatever goes in the Mosin)Clothing-wise, I have cargo pants, a tactical vest and a large backpack. I have a ballistic helmet and a pair of shades. But what I'm most proud of is that for the first time in 35+ hours of gameplay, I have achieved a "healthy" status. I'm really pleased with that, especially considering that I was low on blood and health at one point after some unfortunate zombie encounters. It's just so gratifying to watch the saturation on your screen slowly dissapear. As I learn, I'm enjoying the game more and more.
